Man Stopped On Stoleman Road & Charged With DUI

A twenty-two-year-old man admitted to drinking a six-pack of beer before driving and was arrested for DUI over the past weekend.  According to a report from the sheriff’s office released on Tuesday, Ethan Zachery Odell left the Shell in the Hole on Highway 27 and was reported by a concerned citizen who noticed that Odell seemed intoxicated at the store.  A deputy performed a  traffic stop on Stoleman Road in Trion.  After a field sobriety test, Odell was arrested and charged with DUI and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Commissioner Releases Statement On Tax Assessments

Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry released a statement on Tuesday after county residents got a shock when they opened their 2023 Chattooga County Property Tax assessments that were delivered to property owners this week.  The commissioner says that he wants to make sure the county tax digest is accurate and is working withe board of assessors and the tax commissioner to review the numbers.  He also offered an explanation for why the assessments are so high and says that he will be rolling back the millage rate to help with the dramatic increase in property values.  You can read the commissioner’s statement below:

Summerville Man Arrested On Drug Charges

A twenty-two-year-old Summerville man was arrested after he failed to stop for a Summerville Police Officer.  According to Summerville Police, the officer activated his patrol car lights when he noticed a vehicle without a tag.  The vehicle kept traveling and finally stopped at a Givens Street address.  The officer spoke with the driver who said he didn’t stop because he was afraid to, because he knew that the vehicle had no tag.  Also, the driver didn’t have a valid driver’s license and police say that they could smell burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and on the driver’s person.  Also, the officer found suspected Hydrocodone on the driver’s person.  Jordon Blake Green was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of hydrocodone, possession or abandonment of dangerous drugs and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.
