Summerville Police Respond To Fight At The Nursing Home

On Sunday, two residents at Oak View Nursing Home got into a disagreement about the air conditioner in their room that got physical.  According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, officers responded after the disagreement turned physical.  When police arrived, they spoke with both men.  One said he tried to hit the other in the nose with a “back scratcher” but missed.  The other man told police that he did threaten to kill the other man over the situation. The nursing home separated the two men.  No charges were filed, but the nursing home asked for a report to be filed as is there standard policy.

Secretary Raffensperger Applauds Georgia’s Top Ranking as The Early Voting State

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is pleased to announce Georgia as a top state for Early Voting in the 2022 midterm elections. A recent study by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) places Georgia second in the nation for Early Voting. According to Election Administration and Voting Survey 2022: Comprehensive Report, Georgia ranked 2nd in the nation with 58% of Georgians casting their ballot in person before Election Day. In 2018, only 48% of Georgians cast their ballot before Election Day.

Chattooga County residents began seeing tax assessments arrive in the mail on Monday and many were in for a shock.  Property assessments are up over 30% in the county.  Much of that is due to the higher prices that properties have been bringing over the past several years.

Former Chattooga County Sheriff / GEMA Director Gary McConnell Passes Away

Former Chattooga County Sheriff Gary McConnell passed away on Monday evening.  Sheriff McConnell was elected sheriff in 1967 when he was just 22-years-old, making him the youngest-serving sheriff in Georgia history.  McConnell succeeded his father as sheriff in Chattooga County.
