A fifty-seven-year-old Rome man was arrested on Saturday after he was clocked going over the speed limit in Summerville. Turns out, the man also was under the influence of alcohol and had an outstanding warrant.

A twenty-six-year-old Trion man was arrested on the way to the hospital in an ambulance. Floyd County Police say that Homer Alexander Williams III was being transported by Atrium Health Floyd paramedics when he removed restraints and attempted to jump out of the ambulance. Reports say that Williams then allegedly grabbed a paramedic and forced the paramedic onto the stretcher in the ambulance. Williams was charged with battery and interference with emergency medical personnel.

A second pizza delivery driver in Rome has been arrested for allegedly stealing from a pizza restaurant.

After a brief illness, Mr. Henry Covington has passed away. Mr. Henry was the longtime school custodian at Menlo Elementary School. Several generations of children have known just how special Mr. Henry was. He was so much more than a janitor, mentoring children from the Menlo and Cloudland areas for many years. Social media was flooded with tributes to Mr. Henry after news of his passing was made public. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Henry are incomplete and will be announced later by Mason Funeral Home in Summerville.

The Chattooga County Board of Education will be meeting on Thursday of this week to adopt the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year budget for the county school system. The school system is facing a budget shortfall this year of around $1.1 million. A copy of the tentative budget is available HERE. Thursday’s meeting will take place at the Chattooga Education Center, located at 206 Penn Street in Summerville.

A Rome man is in jail without bond following a shooting on Tyler Street at Garden Lakes Boulevard just before midnight Sunday evening.
