Chattooga Fair Announces Headliner For Saturday Night Of The Fair

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair is coming up in August of this year and the fair council has announced the headliner for Saturday night’s entertainment on the Smith Ironworks Stage.  Boys in the Band, a cover band that pays tribute to country music group Alabama, will be the featured artists on August 26th.

Teen Cited For Shoplifting Cell Phone Charger

An eighteen-year-old was cited for shoplifting on Thursday of last week.  According to reports from the Summerville Police Department, Breniah Fain took a cell phone charger from the Circle K on Commerce Street without paying for it.  Police found Fain in the parking lot of McDonald’s in Summerville and arrested her on shoplifting charges.

Georgia DOT Announces Two Major Projects In NW Georgia

Late last week, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced two new road projects in Northwest Georgia were awarded contracts totaling more than $50.8 million. The projects were part of the $195 million in projects awarded contracts across the state last month.

Sixteen Graduate From Mountain Education Charter High School In Summerville

Sixteen students received their high school diplomas from Chattooga Mountain Education Charter High School in Summerville.  Graduation exercises were held at Chattooga High School.  Those graduating included: Chloe Bass, Aaliyah Burgin, Chase Bowman, Ben Colbert, Madison Colbert, Natasha Constante, Lindsey Cunningham, Jouquin Davis, Ryeland Eager, Marlee Gary, Karley Howard, Hannah Howard, Cory Kendall, Hunter Rhinehart, Donovan Warren and Christian Wells. Madison Wells was named the high honor graduate for the Chattooga Campus.

New Owner Of Cloudland Trade Center Applies For Beer License

A new owner of a historic store at Cloudland has applied for a beer license with the Chattooga County Alcohol Beverage Control Board.  The old SonLib Trade Center at Cloudland, originally opened in 1936 as “Sonny’s Tavern”.   MD Sazzad Hassan has made the application, according to a public notice.  The notice incorrectly identified the store as being located at “12310 Highway 48 ‘Summerville’, Georgia 30731”.  The business will be known as the Cloudland Food Mart, according to the notice.

Summerville Police Arrest Irate Man

A twenty-two-year-old Summerville man was arrested last week after becoming irate over some people who were playing football in the street.

Land Use Planning Commission Meeting Tuesday

The Chattooga County Land Use Commission has a public meeting scheduled for June 20, 2023.  The land use commission will be meeting at the Chattooga County Civic Center, located on Highway 48 in Summerville, across from Truist Bank.  The meeting will be held at 6 PM and the public is invited to attend.

Migratory Bird Hunting Dates And Regulations Approved For 2023-2024 Season

Waterfowl hunters can start making plans as the 2023-2024 migratory bird season hunting dates and regulations were recently approved by the Board of Natural Resources, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).
