State’s Most Popular Republican Will Be Absent From GOP State Convention

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is in a comfortable position.  He handily won his reelection campaign against Democrat Stacy Abrams after she failed in a second attempt to take the state’s top job.  Kemp, who is no ally of former President Donald Trump is facing a backlash from some Republicans in Georgia, who side with the former President.  However, Governor Kemp will be noticeably absent from the upcoming statewide Republican Convention.

Former Investigator / Deputy Arrested

A former Chattooga County Deputy and investigator for the Trion Police Department was arrested on Friday afternoon and charged with aggravated stalking under the Family Violence Act.  Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News that the charges were in relation to a domestic situation.  Dexter Blackmon had served as the Trion Police Department Investigator and had come back to work at the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, but had resigned from the sheriff’s office the first of May of this year.  Blackmon was not working in law enforcement at the time of his arrest.

Trion Fire Department Releases May Call Report

The Trion Fire Department has released their May call report.  Trion firefighters responded to a total of 51 calls.  Seven were residential fire alarms and seven were commercial.  They responded to four illegal burns; eight vehicle accidents, eighteen medical assists; three report of trees down or power line endangerment calls and two natural gas leaks.  They also assisted in one search and rescue and one other alarm call.

North Georgia UMC Conference Prepares For More Exits

On Friday of last week, the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Churches announced that any local churches that would like to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Denomination may do so.

Alabama Man Found With Meth While Shoplifting At Dunhams

A forty-seven-year-old Centre, Alabama was arrested last Thursday in Floyd County, Georgia after he was seen placing several items in a plastic tote at Dunham’s Sporting Good at Mount Berry Mall and leaving the store without paying.  According to Floyd County Police, Paul Bryan Lollar was found to be in possession of methamphetamine when he was arrested by police.  He was booked into the Floyd County Jail.

Georgia Quota Hunt Applications Open

Right now, Georgia hunters can apply electronically for quota hunts including youth, deer, alligator, waterfowl, dove and many others, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.  The application period opened on June 1st.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) on June 1 named Dr. Michael P. “Mike” Shannon president of the University of North Georgia (UNG), effective July 1. Shannon, a retired U.S. Army officer, currently serves as interim executive vice president for Administration and Finance and interim chief business officer at Georgia Tech.
