State Representative Mike Cameron (R-Rossville) commends the state for selecting recreational spaces in Walker County to receive grant funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. These investments, totaling approximately $4.81 million, will support specific projects across Walker County, including the Rossville Recreation Center, the Lafayette Multisport Recreation Park and Chattooga River Greenway, as well as the John Ross Commons ADA-compliant playground.

First Time Jobless Claims Up In Chattooga County

According to numbers released on Thursday from the Georgia Department of Labor, first time jobless claims were up significantly in Chattooga County for the month of April.  There were 317 first time unemployment claims filed last month – an increase from March of this year and higher than April of 2022.  Statewide, Georgia’s April unemployment rate was 3.1%, unchanged from a revised 3.1% in March. The unemployment rate held at 3.1% for nine consecutive months.  County unemployment percentages will be released later this month.

GBI Investigating NW Georgia Officer Involved Shooting

The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Ringgold, Catoosa County, GA. The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on May 17, 2023. One woman, identified as Jennifer Yates, 40, of Ringgold, GA, was shot, and is in critical but stable condition. No officers were injured in this incident.
