WHAT: Weather permitting, GDOT Maintenance crews on Thursday will close the right northbound lane and shoulder of I-75 so crews can make repairs in the area.
WHEN: Thursday, May 18 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
WHERE: The right northbound lane and shoulder of I-75 will be closed at mile post 290. The exit 290 offramp will not be affected.

Summerville Police took out warrants against a man after he kicked a door in on Allan Street earlier this month. According to a report released yesterday, the incident happened on May 11th when Paul Laney came to the residence and demanded to see a woman at the residence. The woman was in the house with her current boyfriend and refused to open the door. Laney reportedly became irate and started kicking the door in and continued to do so until he kicked the door off its hinges. Laney and the woman’s boyfriend then got into a physical altercation. The woman had a protective order barring Laney from coming around her at the time of the incident. When the woman called police, both men fled the scene. Police say that they took out warrants against Laney, charging him with aggravated stalking and criminal trespass.

A former pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Trion passed away earlier this month. Jimmy Dale “J.D.” Herchenhahn pastored in Trion from 1968-1970 while he attended Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga. He was native of Mississippi and a veteran of the Vietnam War. After leaving Trion, Herchenhahn ministered at several churches in North Carolina and after retirement, did some short-term mission work in Guam. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) voted Tuesday not to raise tuition rates for the 2023-24 academic year at 25 of 26 institutions, meaning undergraduate and graduate tuition will remain the same at most institutions for the fourth year in a row.
