The Chattooga Athletic Booster Club has announced the Second Annual Golf Tournament to be held in June at the Trion Golf Course. The event will take place on Saturday, June 3rd with a 8:30 AM morning start and a 1:30 PM afternoon start. There will be a cash prize for first place and lunch will be provided. The commission seeks to evaluate the Professional Licensing Board’s future ability to meet the demands of a rapidly growing Georgia workforce, and pay specific attention to the regulatory burdens that impact the agency’s ability to get Georgians to work quickly and efficiently.

The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) announced on Friday that Mount Vernon Mills has committed to permanently stop using PFAS at this textile mill by the end of 2023. In the meantime, the company has taken steps to significantly reduce the amount of PFAS it is sending to Trion’s wastewater plant by diverting its internal process wastestream for offsite treatment.

Chattooga County’s Land Use Commission met on Tuesday of this week and heard updates on the proposed Zaxby’s restaurant location and about an agricultural development and a land development plan. The commission approved Zaxby’s plan to build near McDonald’s at Hurley’s Crossing Shopping Center. The location is just outside of the Summerville City limits. Also, the commission heard about the development of a rural-style, large acreage subdivision. Woodland Capital is the developer of the project which is located on Sand Pit Road in the Trion area. Woodland Capital states that they “specialize in the acquisition of large land tracts in the Southeastern United States with current income potential including timber production, farming, citrus, mining, and mitigation opportunities”.
