School Voucher Bill Stalls In Georgia House

With just two more days to pass legislation, a controversial school voucher bill has stalled in the Georgia House.  The bill is opposed by most Democrats and some Republicans who say that the measure would divert funds away from public schools and be a “gift for the rich”.  The voucher program proposed would give around $6,500 to parents that want to take their children out of under-performing public schools and place them in private schools, or do virtual schooling.  Voucher programs have been proposed in the past in Georgia, but there has not been enough support for the measures.  The House debated the proposal at length on Thursday of last week and then tabled the legislation.
