Local Restaurant Fundraiser For Chattooga County Deputy

Chattooga County K9 Deputy Nick Robinson will be undergoing heart surgery this week.  Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News, “Nick found out, after some very minor health issues, that he has a cardiac issue that will require open heart surgery to bypass”.  The sheriff’s office has a BBQ lunch fundraiser coming up tomorrow at their office on Underwood Drive in Trion.  That benefit will run from 11 AM – 2 PM.  Then, on Wednesday of this week The Crushed Tomato in Summerville will donating 10% of all of their proceeds to Nick Robinson.  The Crushed Tomato is located at 204 Montgomery Street in Summerville.

Officer Involved Shooting In Gordon County

Gordon County, Georgia Sheriff Mitch Ralston says that some of his deputies were involved in a shooting incident after attempting to stop a motorcycle on US Highway 41 near Calhoun around 3 AM on Sunday morning.

Homestead Exemption Deadline Coming Up

This Friday, March 31, 2023, is the deadline for property owners to file homestead tax exemption in Chattooga County.  If you own your home and live in it, you qualify for the homestead property tax exemption that will give you discounts on your 2023 property taxes.  But you must file for the homestead exemption before the deadline for it to count on this year’s property taxes.  There is no age requirement for homestead property tax exemptions.  Homestead exemption only applies on the home that you use as your primary residence.  You can check the Chattooga County Property Tax Assessor’s web site to see if you have current exemptions on your property.  Chattooga County Tax Assessors Web Site

Cooling Assistance Program Opens For Homebound / Elderly On April 3

Charley Pride To Be Immortalized At Ryman Auditorium In Nashville

The late Charley Pride will be immortalized with a bronze statue at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The Country Music pioneer will join the likes of Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe, and Little Jimmy Dickens as part of the Ryman’s Icon Walk on March 29th. Rozene Pride, Charley’s wife of over 60 years will be in attendance as will his son Dion. The event is open to the public with the event taking place at 2:30 p.m. at the Ryman Auditorium located at 116 5th Avenue North in Nashville.

Poultry Science Program Receives Grant

The University of North Georgia’s (UNG) poultry science program was awarded a $7,000 grant, according to a news release from the university. The grant, which was donated by the US Poultry & Egg Foundation, will be used to help students who are pursuing associate degrees in agriculture and poultry science. It will also be used to provide educational material, as well as to recruit new students to the program. “This grant helps prepare students for jobs and the industry our university serves,” said Dr. Linda Purvis, assistant professor of biology. “It means we can continue to help spread the information about our poultry program and recruit students into our program.” Georgia is home to a multibillion-dollar poultry industry, by far the largest agricultural sector in the state.
