The Chattooga County Young Farmers are selling BBQ Lunches for $5. The sack lunch (BBQ sandwich, chips, dessert) will be available for pick up at the Chattooga County Ag Center next Friday, March 24 from 11-1. Deliveries available to schools and local businesses purchasing more than 5 lunches. Young Farmers will contact those ordering lunches to collect payment and confirm delivery. Here is the latest arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for Thursday, March 16, 2023:

A Lyerly man was cited after driving through a traffic light and into the lot of Harvey’s South End Auto on Sunday. Witnesses say the man was driving a 2009 Mini Cooper and was traveling around 50 miles per hour and drove through the red light and into the used car dealership’s building. A boat and a 1967 Ford Mustang that was in the showroom were also damaged. According to the police report, the front of the building suffered “major damage”. Marcus Broom was charged with failing to obey a traffic signal and no insurance. According to Summerville Police, Broom attempted to purchase insurance twelve minutes after the accident.

A Summerville man was arrested after fighting with two others. Police say Lopez Emmanuel Hayes was involved in a physical altercation on Northwest Congress Street on Monday of this week. When police arrived on the scene, they could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his person. Lopez was charged with disorderly conduct. Two women were also charged after the fight. Jenny Evette Hayes and Amber Nicole Wooten were charged with disorderly conduct. Police say that Jenny Hayes had also been drinking.

An Atlanta man has been arrested on warrants charging him with conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of items prohibited for inmates.

Governor Brian P. Kemp swore in Clayton M. Fuller as the District Attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit in a ceremony at the Capitol on Tuesday. The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit is comprised of Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, and Walker counties. Mr. Fuller will be replacing former District Attorney Chris Arnt, who was sworn in as a judge in the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit in a separate ceremony.

The Summerville City Council has decided to take over the mowing of the Summerville Cemetery. Area residents have complained about conditions at the cemetery but the corporation that oversees it says there just isn’t enough money to provide the upkeep that the cemetery needs. Earlier this year, Mayor Harry Harvey had said, “the city will probably take over the maintenance of the cemetery”. According to Summerville City Councilman Joe Money, the city will start mowing and maintaining the cemetery on July 1st of this year.
