During a routine License and Safety Checkpoint operation in Chattooga County, law enforcement officers made drug-related arrests on October 12, 2024. Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting the Georgia State Patrol when they encountered a green Ford Ranger pickup truck occupied by Larry Cooper and Tammy Jackson. Despite Cooper’s denial, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana and conducted a search. They found a marijuana grinder and joint on Cooper, as well as a glass smoking device with suspected methamphetamine residue in his jacket. Additionally, they found Alprazolam pills between the seats and methamphetamine in Jackson’s purse. Both denied ownership and were charged accordingly. They were transported to the Chattooga County Jail, and the vehicle was towed.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested Lieutenant Joshua Clower, age 43, of the Lagrange Police Department, on multiple charges including theft by taking, theft by conversion, and exploitation of an elderly person over the age of 65. The arrest follows an investigation initiated on June 25, 2024, when the Lagrange Police Department requested the GBI’s assistance in looking into allegations of theft against Lt. Clower.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting applications now through Nov. 15 for its 2025 Career Academy, a week-long summer camp for current 10th and 11th graders interested in exploring careers in natural resources management.
A Rome woman, 44-year-old Katherine Dianne Finn, faces charges of identity theft fraud, financial transaction card fraud, and exploitation of a disabled adult. Finn allegedly obtained the victim’s debit card information and used it to deposit money on an inmate’s account via the jail ATM website. The card was used 17 times from June 30 to August 17.
