Georgia’s gas price average rose this week but remains under $ 3.00 compared to a week ago. Georgians pay an average of $2.97 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 3 cents more than a week ago, 19 cents less than a month ago, and 29 cents less than last year. It costs drivers an average price of $44.55 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying almost $3.00 less to fill up at the pump than a month ago.
Jeremy Wade Bruce, a forty-one-year-old male sex offender, was arrested last week by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office after lying to a deputy about where he was living .
A Fall Festival is being planned in Summerville and is set for Saturday, October 19th, starting at 3 PM at the old North Summerville Elementary School on Highland Avenue. A Ringgold man was arrested in Chattooga County after speeding and attempting to elude a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deptuy on September 18th.
A Northwest Georgia man was sentenced in U.S. Federal Court in Rome last week for producing and distributing child pornography. Ian Alicea Prewett has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for enticing children to create child pornography. U. S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan condemned Prewett as a sexual predator who victimized innocent children. Prewett uploaded explicit images of minors to Instagram between 2020 and 2022 and was caught when federal agents obtained a warrant to search his home in May 2023. Prior to his arrest, Prewett had engaged in sexual acts with minors, including a victim under eight years old in the UK. Prewett, 31, from Cartersville, Georgia, was convicted of sexual exploitation of children and received a 20-year prison sentence followed by 20 years of supervised release.
As Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in the southeast, many communities have been left devastated and in need of assistance. In response, Dry Valley Baptist Church in Chattooga County is stepping up to help those in need by organizing a supply drive. They are calling on the community to come together and donate essential items to support those affected by the hurricane’s destruction.

On Sunday night, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader put out the appeal for area residents to assist fellow Georgians who were affected by the recent hurricane. The sheriff says, “Alright folks, when we were in need people from all over came to help us when our water filter plant was flooded and we had no drinking water. Starting in the morning (Today – Monday, September 30th) at 10 am we will be accepting donations of water, cleaning supplies and dry goods for our South Georgia friends. I plan to deliver Wednesday or Thursday. We are working to deliver to a sheriffs office in one of the areas that was hit hard by Helene. New gas cans will also be accepted. We were blessed during this storm and we can be a blessing to those who were hit! Thanks and I look forward to seeing yall over the next few days!! Items will be accepted at the Sheriffs Office at 533 Underwood drive (across from Walmart)”.
