The countdown is on for the 2024 Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.  One week from today, the gates will open for the fair which was re-established 10 years-ago in 2014.  The fair council has been working all year in preparation for this year’s event. Multiple vendors will begin setting up at the fair grounds, located between the Chattooga County Ag Building and Summerville Middle School, throughout the week next week.   Thursday of next week is not only opening day, it is also “student night” at the fair, sponsored by The City of Summerville.  All students will get free gate admission.  There are plenty of things to see and do with a free kid’s zone that will feature a petting zoo, rock climbing wall and mechanical bull.  Students in the Chattooga County School System will have early release for the fair on Thursday, August 22nd and again on Friday August 23rd. Livestock entries for the fair are due by tomorrow, Friday, August 16th.

Yesterday,  the GBI arrested and charged the Mayor of the City of Thomson, Benjamin Cary Cranford, age 52, of Thomson, Georgia, with Furnishing Prohibited Items to Inmates and Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony.

Walker County Government and Thrive Regional Partnership will host another community engagement session on digital connectivity at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26th at the Walker County Civic Center. The purpose of this session will be to gather input from residents about the first draft of the county’s Digital Connectivity Plan, which will be released soon.

This past Saturday, a Chattooga County deputy had pulled a driver over in the parking lot of Mason’s funeral home due to the man possibly driving under the influence. Bernard Bostic admitted to the deputies that he had smoked marijuana an hour prior to being pulled over. It was observed by deputies after speaking with Bostic that his eyes were blood shot, he had droopy eyelids, and pin point pupils with no reaction to light. Bostic agreed to do a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was then placed under arrest and then admitted that he had done cocaine and got high before his road trip and was not drunk. Bostic was then told he was under arrest for DUI drug impairment.

The Town of Trion will have a called meeting this evening at 6 PM.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss bids on a new pole barn for the Trion Public Works Department.  The public is invited to attend.  The meeting will be held at the Trion Town Hall Conference Room.
