Officials Count Of Dead Fish After Ammonia Spill Disputed By Residents

A video taken by area residents shows hundreds of dead fish in the Chattooga River following an ammonia spill at Mount Vernon Mills last week.  The spill happened outside the mill as an Airgas company truck was delivering ammonia to the cotton mill.

4H Shotgun Team Fundraiser Next Month

A fundraiser for the Chattooga 4H Shotgun Team will be held next month at the Floyd County Wildlife Club, located just off Highway 100, just across the Chattooga-Floyd County line.  The sporting clays fundraiser will take place on Saturday, August 24th at 9 AM.  The registration fee is $500 for a four-person team.  All participants will need to provide their own shells and sign a waiver provided by the Floyd County Wildlife Club.  Lunch is included.  The first place team will receive an $800 cash prize, and there will be various door prizes given away.  You can secure your team’s spot by contacting John Smith at 706-978-9182 or BJ Montgomery at 706-676-6710.

Man Arrested After Pouring Drink On Store Clerk’s Head

A thirty-three-year-old Silver Creek man was arrested by Georgia State Patrol on Tuesday after he poured a drink on a clerk at the Circle K gas station on Shorter Avenue. According to Floyd County Jail records, Fatir Ibn Rasullullah Abdul Sul Pillow was told to pay for a drink he was attempting to purchase at another clerk’s register in the store (as the clerk was ending their shift). Mr. Pillow allegedly grew irate with the clerk, dumping his drink all over the worker, the register and nearby electronic products. Pillow was booked into the Floyd County Jail and is being charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault.

Trion Football Kicking & Punting Camp Next Week

Former Trion Bulldog Gus Navarro and current two-time All-State Kicker Andy Ramirez will be hosting a “Kicking & Punting” Camp coming up next week for grades six to twelve.  The camp will be held at Sam R. McCain Stadium in Trion and is free to attend.  The camp will take place each night from 7 PM – 8:30 PM.

Georgia Supreme Court Allows Lawsuit Against AtriumHealth Floyd To Move Forward

The Rome News Tribune reported this week that the Georgia Supreme Court ruled that pandemic measures, which suspended court filing deadlines, do not bar a case against Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center from moving forward.
