All Chattooga County offices, will be closed on Thursday July 4th and Friday July 5th, in observance of Independence Day. The Transfer Station and Chattooga County Transit will operate under normal business hours, Friday July 5th. On Sunday, The Summerville Police Department responded to a call stating that someone was attempting to break into a home on Kirby Street. When an officer arrived on the scene Pierre Price was sitting by the road near the victim’s yard. He said he had permission to be on the property but that proved to be false. The officer walked Price over to his car and patted him down and ended up finding a methamphetamine pipe on him. Price was then placed under arrest and after being transported to jail, the jail officer found a rolled up cigarette with marijuana on the suspect as well. Price was charged with possession of methamphetamine, crossing guard lines with drugs, use of drug related objects, possession, and criminal trespass.

The Georgia gas price average continues to climb at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.31 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 5 cents more than a week ago, 6 cents less than a month ago, and 9 cents more than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $49.65 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are now paying almost $1.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.
The Highway 27 Yard sale will be held once again this year in August. This year, the dates are August 1-3, and the City of Summerville is currently selling vendor and yard sale spaces at Dowdy Park in downtown Summerville. Dowdy Park gets visitors from all over during the annual event. The cost is just $5 per spot – per day and vendor hours will be from daylight until 7 PM. Spaces will be assigned. Forms are available at Summerville City Hall on Georgia Avenue, across from Summerville First Baptist Church. The Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program has named Dr. Sierra Armbrust and Dr. Jacob Collier as chief residents for the new academic year beginning today. Chief residents are selected and voted on by their peers and are approved by faculty and staff. During their one-year term, they will serve in leadership roles, mentoring underclassmen and acting as liaisons between residents and faculty.
