Avasant Digital Skills Training will be offered to Chattooga County.
The Chattooga Chamber is setting up a Stakeholders Lunch & Conversation with interested individuals, organizations and companies to talk about how to create a curriculum for an upcoming training in our community.
The Lunch & Conversation will be held Tuesday, June 25th 11:30a-1:30p at the Chattooga Civic Center. This event is free, but registration is required for planning purposes. Please, reserve your seat HERE
The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office released a report on a motorcycle chase on Lyerly Dam Road that happened last week. On June 13th a deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by John Levi Sneed of Lyerly after observing the motorcycle did not have a tag. The driver accelerated and attempted to outrun the deputy but crashed in the curve near the trash dump on Lyerly Dam Road. The driver then fled the scene on foot. Sneed’s parents came to the scene and told deputies that John Levi Sneed was the driver of the vehicle and that they were concerned he might be seriously injured. Sneed was located a short time later at Bishop’s Trailer Park on Highway 114. Sneed’s wife admitted to picking him up and bringing him home to avoid deputies. Sneed was charged with a long list of charges including fleeing and attempting to elude, obstruction of law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Voters returned to the polls on Tuesday evening to vote in runoff elections in Chattooga County. Republican voters chose Jeremy “Big Mac” McElhaney as the next coroner of Chattooga County. McElhaney won with over 55% of the votes. A total of 1,952 voters voted in the Republican Primary. McElhaney will be replacing longtime Democratic Coroner Earl Rainwater who announced his retirement earlier this year.
In the race for Seat One on the Summerville City Council, Simone Adams defeated Pam Albert to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman David Ford who passed away earlier this year. Adams received 136 votes to Albert’s 86 votes.
In the Democratic Primary runoff, voters were voting to see who will run against U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Shawn Harris easily defeated Clarence Blalock with over 67% of the votes.
Summerville Parks & Recreation is looking for a part-time assistant director. The job would consist of assisting the Recreation Department with all athletic programs and special events and supervision of recreation facilities. The job is typically twenty hours per week and would include an evening shift from 5 PM until 9 PM weekdays, with Saturday hours during basketball season. A company that converts agricultural waste into renewable energy is looking at a site in Trion at the town’s industrial park. A meeting was held yesterday evening to discuss plans for the new facility that would be built at the back part of the industrial park.
AARP will be offering a Smart Driver classroom course that can save you money on your car insurance. The classroom course will be held at the Menlo Housing Authority Lawrence Center on Edison Street in Menlo on Thursday June 27th from 8:30 AM – 3 PM. Lunch will be provided. There are no tests and participants can save a minimum of 10% on the car insurance premiums. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members.
