On Tuesday, June 4 and Thursday, June 6, 2024, local restaurants in Calhoun, Cartersville, Dalton and Rome, will take part in the first Dine for Disaster Relief event for the American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia. Participating restaurants will donate a portion of their sales to the Northwest Georgia Chapter. Proceeds will be used to help the Red Cross provide disaster relief assistance to members of this community and communities nearby.

In Thursday night’s called meeting of the Chattooga Board of Education, Michelle Heile was named superintendent of schools for the Chattooga County System with a unanimous vote by the Board of Education to be effective July 1, 2024. Heile, who started as an elementary math teacher has been with the Chattooga County School System for seventeen years. She will be the first female school superintendent for the county school system.

A Rome man died over the weekend from injuries he sustained after being struck by a train.
The deadline is approaching for students to sign up for the Chattooga County Young Farmers annual Pig Project. The cost is $100 to participate. Students will receive 2 pigs that they will raise and then auction off later this fall. A preview show will be held at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair in August. The project is limited based on the number of pigs available and preference is given to 4-H and FFA students. Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says that due to the heat and high temperatures of summer, the Town of Trion sanitation, public works and gas department will be going to summer hours starting next week. Beginning June 3rd, the hours for those departments will be from 6:30 AM until 3 PM, Monday through Friday. Mayor Thomas says that if there any questions, you are welcome to contact Trion Town Hall at 706-734-2332 between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
