Sheriff Releases Statement About Stateline Road Incident

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader released a statement on Saturday about an arrest made on Stateline Road at Cloudland earlier this month in which a man with massive head injuries was tased by a Chattooga County Deputy.  Atlanta news media reported on Friday of last week that the family of the man claims excessive force was used during the incident.  Sheriff Schrader says that an internal investigation into the use of force is ongoing within his department.  You can read Sheriff Schrader’s complete statement and description of the incident below:

Memorial Day Weekend Events At Sloppy Floyd State Park

The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park are inviting everyone out for an old fashioned Ice Cream Social, coming up today at the local state park.  You can choose your favorite flavor of delicious, homemade ice cream for only $3 a cup.  Credit and debit cards will be accepted.  The Ice Cream Social is taking place from noon until 3 PM and will be held next to the park’s visitor center.  Remember, a $5 park pass is required.  In addition, there are other activities taking place today.  At 10 AM Kayaking 101 will be showing the basics of kayaking on the upper lake.  At 7:30 PM there will be Sunset Paddle with Park Rangers on the lower lake.  Registration is required and is $15 per person which includes kayak rental.  $5 if you bring your own kayak.

Next Saturday, June 1st, Summerville Main Street will celebrate National Dairy Month at the Summerville Depot with the 2024 Chill & Churn Homemade Ice Cream Contest and Ice Cream Eating Contest. Ice Cream lovers and rail fans will enjoy some of the best homemade ice cream around, and welcome in a Double Steam Engine Train Arrival! Dairy Day at the Depot is set to kick off at 10:30 a.m. Rail fans will not want to miss this unique opportunity to photograph the double steam engine arrival and turning of the Summerville Turntable around 1:00 p.m. The Chattanooga Modular Modelers N-Scale T-TRAK club will also be on site with their N -Scale train display, meeting with train enthusiasts young and old. .

Summerville Police Find Marijuana Grow Operation

On Wednesday of this week, Summerville Police Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call where officers discovered that 36-year-old Seth Jordan Lindsay had assaulted a female leaving her with visible injuries and then fled the scene. Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Battery against Lindsay.

Chattooga County School Nutrition is pleased to announce the Summer Feeding Program will operate once again this year. This program allows meals to all children under the age of 18, free of charge. The Summer Feeding Program will run from June 3rd until July 16th.

Governmental Offices Closed On Monday For Memorial Day

Government offices will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.  The City of Summerville, the Town of Trion, the City of Menlo and Town of Lyerly, along with Chattooga County governmental offices will be closed for the Federal holiday.  If you have an emergency on Monday, you should contact Chattooga 911.  Also, the United States Post Office will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Monday. Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry says that the county dump sites will be closed on Monday as well and will reopen on Tuesday.

Menlo Asks Water Customers To Conserve Water

The City of Menlo is asking Menlo water customers to conserve water.  The city posted on Friday “Thank you in advance for helping conserve water. Please contact City Hall before filling pools or engaging in water-intensive activities”.  Earlier this week, a boil water advisory was lifted for Menlo water customers after fecal contamination was found at the city’s Alpine Well last weekend. City Mayor Allen Keen says that the fecal matter was found in pre-tested water and water customers were never in any danger from drinking or using the treated water.
