Summerville Police responded to the recreation facility on Senior Drive on Monday afternoon after a complainant said that there was a woman walking at the walking track that the complainant had protective order against.  Police spoke with Denise Watkins who identified a woman on the track who she had taken out a warrant against.  Police reviewed the complainant’s paperwork and could not determine that a protective order had been issued; so they placed a call to Chattooga County Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux.  Judge Maddux told police that no protective order had been issued and that there was no reason the woman couldn’t be walking at the track at the recreation center.  Police explained the situation to the complainant, who remained adamant about the issue.  Police told the complainant that a report would be on file at the Summerville Police Department.

The Northwest Georgia Center for Independent Living and the Trion Library are inviting the public for a discussion about accessibility needs at the Trion Library.  The event will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 23rd at the Trion Recreation Center and will feature free food.  The discussion will include ways to improve accessibility at the library and other accessibility needs in the Town of Trion.  The Trion Rec is located at 90 Dalton Street in Trion.

On Monday of this week, Summerville Police responded to a call about a break-in at a storage unit on Favor Street.  Police arrived and spoke with the complainant who said someone had broken into his storage unit and had stolen a safe that contained over $2000 and “a jug of pennies”.  The responding officer was joined at the scene by a detective from the police department.  Police determined that multiple storage units at the facility had been broken into.  The complainant said that in addition to the safe, thieves had stolen a Chicago-brand TIG welder and had broken into a filing cabinet inside the storage unit.  Summerville Police continue to investigate.

Thousands of people are being dropped from the Medicaid and Peach Care for Kids programs in Georgia. A report from the Urban Institute reveals that Georgia and 11 other states are dis-enrolling more children than adults from Medicaid. The federal government mandated Medicaid re-determinations following the end of COVID-19 emergency rules, leading to terminations for procedural reasons and referrals to alternative health insurance options. State officials are actively reaching out to Medicaid members to guide them through the re-determination process, but many remain confused or unaware of the changes.

A Summerville man reported a case of fraud to the Summerville Police Department last week.  According to a report released on Monday, David Vanhorn told police that he received a notice from a local U-Haul rental business that a truck had been rented in his name.  Vanhorn showed police a copy of the contract that was emailed to him – the problem is, the truck was rented by someone with a Florida drivers license.  Vanhorn said that he has never had a Florida drivers license.  Vanhorn told police that he would be contacting the local U-haul business and wanted a police report on file.
