Hot And Humid With Slight Chance Of Thunderstorms Today

Northwest Georgia will experience hot, humid weather and daily thunderstorms starting this afternoon and lasting through the weekend. Key concerns include heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds, which can make outdoor activities difficult. Today, scattered thunderstorms may occur, bringing risks like localized flooding and strong winds. Temperatures will soar into the 90s. This evening, the chance of storms drops to 10% before 8 p.m., with partly cloudy skies overnight and a low around 74 degrees. On Thursday, the weather remains similar, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Temperatures could reach 93 degrees, making it feel like 97 degrees due to the heat index. Precautions should be taken against heat exhaustion. Thursday night has a 30% chance of storms before 8 p.m. On Friday, expect a 50% chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m., with a high near 92 degrees. Saturday also features a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m., with persistent heat.

Northwest Georgia Nonprofits Receive Art Grants From Georgia Council For The Arts

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), through the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA), has announced the distribution of over $1.3 million in grants to support arts and culture in 49 counties. A total of 177 grants were awarded for fiscal year 2026. The General Operating Support Grant will aid 104 nonprofit arts organizations, while the Project Grant will fund 45 specific art initiatives, such as exhibits and workshops. The Arts Education Program Grant will benefit 28 organizations, enhancing arts education in K-12 schools across various disciplines.

Rep. Lumsden Named 2025 Legislator Of The Year By CO-AGE

The Georgia Council on Aging named State Representative Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) as the 2025 Legislator of the Year at the CO-AGE Annual General Meeting on July 14, 2025. Lumsden expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted his commitment to supporting Georgia’s aging population. Lumsden said “It’s a privilege to be recognized by such a dedicated group of advocates who work tirelessly to support Georgia’s seniors. I’m grateful for this recognition and remain committed to advancing policies that support and uplift our aging population”. Rep. Lumsden has served House District 12 since 2012 and holds various committee positions, including Chairman of the House Insurance Committee.
