State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) has released his weekly legislative report.  Rep. Lumsden says that the House passed 72 bills on Crossover Day and are now reviewing bills that were sent to the House from the Senate.  Also, the House passed the Fiscal Year 2025 budget that includes priority spending for education.   The budget will fully fund the Quality Basic Education Program with a record $14.1 billion in state funds.  Also the House’s version of the budget would appropriate $6.3 million for literacy coaches and $104 million for new school security grant programs.  You can read Rep. The Georgia gas price average showed little to no movement since last week. Georgia drivers are paying an average price of $3.20 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average  had no movement compared to a week ago, is 17 cents more than a month ago, and 6 cents less than this time last year. It costs drivers an average of $48.00 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are now paying almost $1.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) this week announced that Tiana Jones, a sophomore from Whitefield Academy in Cobb County, took home first prize in the 2024 Poetry Out Loud state championship. Fifth-grade students from every school in the county will be visiting  the Chattooga County Ag building for “Ag Day” on Thursday of this week.  The trip is a tradition for fifth-graders and exposes them to Georgia’s number one industry – agriculture.  It also shows the students the vital roll that agriculture plays in Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia.  The event is hands-on and allows the students to ask questions and learn more about agriculture here at home and across the state.  There will be over 300 fifth-grade students that participate.
