Mrs. Nancy Ellen Kelley Obit (M)

Mrs. Nancy Ellen Kelley, age 58, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Friday July 10, 2015, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Kelley was born July 17, 1956, in North Carolina, the daughter of William James and Clara Crowe Pell.  She was a home maker and a member of the Desoto Church of Christ.

Survivors include husband, Darrell Kelley, children, Sandy Sharp, Sally & Shaun Wheat, Leah & Joe Patterson, sister, Kathy & Larry Gray, grandchildren, Patrick Coots, Maggie Coots, Emily Wheat, Hunter Wilbanks, Thomas Manning.

Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. CST Sunday at the Desoto Church of Christ with Minister Larry Kirby officiating. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. CST Sunday until the service hour at Desoto Church of Christ on county road 89 Mentone, AL.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Desoto Church of Christ, 15236 County Road 89, Mentone, AL 35984.

Mr. Gregory Dale Mitchell, age 50 of Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Mr. Mitchell was born November 3, 1964 in Marietta, GA. Dale was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, former Commander of Camp 507, bass player of Vintage Band, a Certified Fire Fighter, Correctional Peace Officers Foundations, studied genealogy researching his ancestors, love to read, avid historian, and enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ.

Dale is survived by wife, Angela Mitchell; mother, Edna Mitchell; daughter, Stephanie (Bryan) Griffin; sister, Tammy Campbell; grandchildren, Jillian Griffin, David Griffin, and Lylah Griffin; nephew, Alex (Elizabeth) Taylor, Madison and Blakely Campbell; great-nephew, Cash Taylor.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 12, 2015 at  2:00 p.m. from the Pennville Church of Christ with Minister Robbie Eversole, Stan Hammond, and Chaplain Darryl Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Dale will lie-in-state Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends after 6 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Mike Flippo, Alex Taylor, Roger Cothran, Caleb Johnston, Kenneth Gilreath, and Jamie Cavin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hays State Prison Maintenance Department and Son of the Confederate Veterans Camp 507.

Mr. Walter Brent Penrod Obit (C)

Mr. Walter Brent Penrod, age 72, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 09, 2015 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Penrod was born in Mineral, Ohio on August 11, 1942,  son of the late William Penrod, Jr. and Ethel Bodkins Penrod.  He was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God and was an avid fisherman.  Prior to retirement, Mr. Penrod was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills in the Planter Mill, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Penrod was preceded in death by his brothers, Melven Penrod and Austin Raymond Penrod; sisters, Kathryn White, Marie Penrod and Rebecca Penrod.

Mr. Penrod is survived by his wife, Jeanette Penrod; daughter, Angie Penrod; stepson, John Ramey; honorary son, Mickey Barnette; step-daughter, Tammy Jackson; sister, Ruth Gambill; grandchildren, Kensey Alexander, Howard Jeffries, Jr. and Brianna Ramey; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Penrod will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Harrell Street Church of God with Rev. Denny Smith and Rev. Jeff Shaver officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Jackson, J.R. Kennett, Barry Tanner, Danny Hester, Doug Gill and Dewayne Tinney.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all of his lady friends from the Trion Wal-Mart.

Mr. Penrod will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

On Saturday, Mr. Penrod will be carried to the Harrell Street Church of God, and will lie in state from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

MR. THOMAS E. BREWSTER, age 71, of Highway #114, Summerville,Georgia passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015, following a sudden attack, athis residence.  Mr. Brewster was born April 7, 1944 in Valley Head,Alabama to the late William Edgar and Dovie Mae Hulgan Brewster.  Mr.Brewster was a member of South Commerce Church of Christ; a Veteran ofthe U.S. Army serving in Viet Nam and was a carpenter by trade.  He waspreceded in death by sisters, Patty Sigler, Louise Brewster, Billie JoHarkins, Ollie Mae Henderson, and Ruby Norris, brothers, James Arthur Brewster, and Thomas Henry Brewster.

Mrs. Elizabeth Bayne Cooke Obit (Holman)

Mrs. Elizabeth Bayne Cooke, age 83, of Cloudland, Georgia, formerly of Ozark, Alabama, died Saturday, July 4, 2015, in Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 11, 2015, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home and Cremations in Ozark, Alabama with her nephew, Reverend Robert Bayne, Jr., officiating.  Interment will follow in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Saturday from 10:00 A. M. until service time.

Mrs. Cooke was born November 16, 1931 in Ozark, Alabama to the late DeWitt Talmadge “D.T.” Bayne and Edna Wicks Balkcom Bayne.  She lived in Maryland for twenty-two years, then moved to Atlanta, and made her final home in Cloudland, Georgia.  She was a member of the Lutheran Faith, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine, Lucille, and Louise; and one brother, Robert.

She is survived by her best friend, Oneida Brown and her family; sisters, Ann Chase and Marge Schmidtz; children, Rod Cooke (Pat), Debbie Cooke (Richard), Michael Cooke, and Tim Cook (Nancy);  grandchildren, Melissa Goldston (Steven), Kara Cooke, Timothy Cooke Jr. (Kim), Joseph Cooke (Sharon), Christie Cooke, Katie Cooke (Steven).  Seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Floyd Heyman Hospice,   P.O. Mrs. Thelma Edith Tripp Obit (M)

 

Mrs. Thelma Edith Tripp, age 93, of Ringgold, GA, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Tripp was born September 9, 1921, in Rocky Face, GA, daughter of the late Artie E. and Annie Laura Jones Scott.  She was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Tripp; and a son, Leonard Tripp.

Mrs. Tripp is survived by her sons, Ralph W. Tripp and Raymond D. Tripp; 5 grandchildren, Sam B. Tripp, Chris Tripp, Shane Tripp, Joey Tripp, and Tina Swan; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Tripp will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2015, from the Old Trion Cemetery.

Mrs.Pauline Ruth McDonald (M)

Mrs. Pauline Ruth McDonald, age 92, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Cherokee County Health and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mrs. McDonald was born February 26, 1923, in Cedar Bluff, AL, daughter of the late Otis Roy and Oshie Ann Steele Richardson.  She was a member of the Horizon Baptist Fellowship, and prior to her retirement, worked as a Nursing Assistant for 24 years at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John "Tom" McDonald.

 

Mrs. McDonald is survived by her son, John T. McDonald, Jr. of Edina, MN; a brother, J. L. Richardson of Gadsden, AL; and a sister, Kathleen Mills of Centre, AL.

 

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. McDonald will be held at 12:00 Noon (E.S.T.) Wednesday, July 8, 2015, from the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Scott Quinn officiating.

MRS. ELAINE HOLLOWAY MITCHELL, age 66, of Railroad Circle, Summerville, Georgia, Pennville Community, passed away Friday afternoon in a Rome hospital. She was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on April 20, 1949, to the late Arnold and Martha Janette Wilson Holloway. Mrs. Mitchell was retired from the sort & grind department of Mohawk Mill and a member of the Harbor Light Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, the late Harvey Eugene Mitchell on August 23, 2008.

Surviving are daughters & spouses, Denise & Gary Rose of Chattanooga and Christy & Christopher Crump of Summerville; sons & spouses, Joey & Gretchen Mitchell of Ringgold, Dennis & Tammie Mitchell of Lebanon, Tn., and Jason Mitchell of Summerville; sisters, Imojean Cook, Peggy Pierce, Deviah Gilliland all of Summerville , and Jody Morrison of Lyerly; grandchildren, Kai Mitchell, Corey & Josie Lamb, Bruce, Shawn, & Austin Hicks; Five Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mr. Harvey C. Duncan Obit (M)

Mr. Harvey C. Duncan, age 80, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Duncan was born March 19, 1935, in Albertville, AL, son of the late Noah P. and Idell Romine Duncan. He was a member and deacon of the West Berryton Faith Temple, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Bigelow Sanford.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmo Duncan, Bufford Duncan, and Bobby Duncan.

Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife, Mary Kathleen Duncan; sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey Dewayne and Sheila Duncan, Chris A. and Missy Duncan; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Diane and Gary Blackwell, Louetta and Hugh Millican; a brother and sister-in-law, Noah P. and Pat Duncan; a sister, Linda Bonds; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Duncan will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 5, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
