Ms. Ruby Lee Hancock, age 92, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Hancock was born May 11, 1919 in Subligna, GA, the daughter of the late DeForrest and Annie Mae Smith Duncan. She was retired from Riegel Textile. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Steffen Day; sisters,Lois Hall and Carolyn Perry; best friend, Dot Clements Hankins; brothers, Bud Duncan, and James “Doc” Duncan.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Lawrence Day, Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Todd & Patti Day, Shawn & Carolin Day, Susan & Jeff Stevens; great-grandchildren, Steven Day, Kayla Day, Paige Day, Lauren Stevens, and Cody Stevens; brother-in-law, Benny Perry; sister-in-law, Ann Duncan; nieces, Jane Short, Lisa Hall, and Kim Klouda; nephews, Steve Duncan, Mike hall, Randy Hall, and Tim Perry.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Trion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Day, Todd Day, Shawn Day, Steven Day, Jeff Stevens, and Tim Perry.

Mrs. Hancock will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a. m. on Saturday.

The family wishes to thank her nieces, Jane Short and Lisa Hall, and friend Charlotte Stowe, Dr. Bruce Lee, Betty Nalley, nurse practitioner, and all Nurses and Staff at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for all their love and care.

Mrs. Velma M. Bridges 91 of Union Point Ga, formerly of Chattooga County passed away Wednesday Morning, in Green Point Health Care Facility.  A daughter of the late Ellis and Addie Cargle Mathis, Mrs. Bridges was born April 11th 1920 in Little Sand Mountain, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Gordon Lee Bridges, a son the late Bobby Leon Bridges.  Ms. Bridges was a retired Delta Airlines Accountant.  Survivors include two grandchildren, Mark Wesley Bridges and Allison Lynn Barfield a daughter in law Nancy Bridges of Newnan Ga..Funeral services will be Thursday at 1PM from graveside in Little Sand Mountain Cemetery with minister Hugh Glaze officiating…Earle Rainwater Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Ms. Velma M. MRS. YVONNE MYRICK, age 75, of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012, in a Rome hospital. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Chester Lee Phillips and the late Ovell Whitley Cordell. Mrs. Myrick was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband the late William Thomas Myrick. Surviving are daughter-April Myrick Vaughn; son & daughter-in-law Jehrome (Diane) Myrick all of Trion; granddaughter-Misty Myrick Copeland (Jason); grandson-Jehrome Paul Vaughn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 17, 2012 at 2:00 P. M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Russell and Mr. Robert Speer officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tony Wooten, Dennis Maddux, Danny Joe Spraggins, Ronnie Prince, Casey Mann and Chris Noel. Honorary pallbearers will be Dino Demonia, Mike Starkey, David and Angela Towe and the Senior Members of North Summerville Baptist Church. Mr. Clyde Alfred Day, age 83, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Day was born in Menlo, Georgia on August 9, 1928, son of the late Alfred Day and Annie Myrtle Hammond Day. He was a self-employed used car dealer and a member of the Menlo First Baptist Church. Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Louise Thomas Day, sons, Terry Day, Tim Day, daughter, Christy Camp, brother Gene Day, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mr. Day will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Larry Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Willingham, Wayne Powell, Bruce Agee, Tommy Ballard, Bud Willis and Larry Mann. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men’s Sunday School class of the Menlo First Baptist Church. Mr. Jerry Wayne Thornberry, age 52, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Thornberry was born in Trion, Georgia on May 25, 1959, son of the late J.P. Thornberry and Jo Hall Thornberry. He was a graduate of Chattooga High School.

Mr. Thornberry is survived by a number of cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thornberry will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery.

MR. EUGENE STODDARD TAYLOR, JR., age 83, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, in the local nursing home. A native of northwest Georgia.

 He was born to the late Eugene Stoddard Taylor, Sr. and the late Adeline Wright Taylor on May 22, 1928. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served in the U.S. Marines during Korea, and was a retired attorney-at-law.

 Surviving are daughter-Elizabeth Taylor Archer of Chattanooga; son-Eugene S. Taylor, III of Atlanta; granddaughter-Hannah Archer; grandson-Jamie Archer. Graveside service will be held Sunday, January 15th, at 2:00 P.M. in the Family lot of Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Mike Penson officiating.

Mrs. Kathleen Maxey Junkins, age 87, of Trion, GA died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Heritage Health Care in LaFayette, GA. Mrs. Junkins was born January 25, 1924, the daughter of the late Victor C. and Bessie Scoggins Maxey. She was a homemaker and member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Clifford Junkins; grandson, Christopher Paul Warnock; and a brother, Bobby Maxey. Survivors include her daughters, Judi Payton, LaFayette, GA, and Theresa Chastain, Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Faye Cosgrove, Charlotte, NC, and Betty Maxey, Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Brian Payton, Dawn Wright, and Heather Chastain; and 9 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tracy A. Bass and Rev. Robert Ward officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rob Wright, Jimmy Alexander, Clete Holzer, Justin Warnock, Brian Payton, and Rex Knight.
