Mr. J D Dillard, age 82, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Dillard was born October 4, 1929 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late William Lee and Bessie Galloway Dillard. Mr. Dillard was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a past treasurer. He was a former Junior Boys Sunday School Teacher, a former Little League Coach, and was formerly active in Boy Scouts. He was retired from Mohawk Industries and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 Brothers and 4 Sisters.

Mr. Dillard is survived by his wife, Geneva Scoggins Dillard; sons and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Deborah Dillard, and Rodney Lee Dillard; sister, Betty Fortner, Trion, GA; grandchildren, Emma Dillard and Ethan Nixon; brother- in-law and sister-in-law, Billy & Tennie Scoggins; sisters-in-law, Paula Brown,Louise Dillard, and Rachel Dillard; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Four Mile Baptist Church with Rev. Doyle Kelly, Rev. Sanford Deberry, and Rev. Joel Smith, and Daniel Smith officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Sonny Dillard, Howard Dillard, Thomas Dillard, Buddy Evans, Bill Ingram, and Keith Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Mick Allen, Cecil Reynolds, Ken Reynolds, A. L. Norton, Bobby Evans, Johnny Gorham, and Mike Dillard.

Mr. Dillard will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive from 5:00 until 8:00 p. m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011. He will also lie in state at Four Mile Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:30 until the service hour.

MR. OTIS SHIVER, age 87, of Ridgewood Circle-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, October 24, 2011, in the local nursing home. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 7, 1924, a son of the late Jesse C. and Allie Mae- Williams Shiver. Mr. Shiver was a WW II Veteran serving in the U. S. Army Combat Engineers in the Philippians and New Guinea; also was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #129 and V.F.W. Post #6688. He was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and retired from retail sales. Surviving are wife-Marion Nelson Shiver; sons and daughter-in-law-Nelson Shiver of Atlanta and Farrell & Kay Willingham Shiver of Woodstock; granddaughter-Sarah Shiver; sisters-Edna Helton of Summerville and Linda Green of Lyerly; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 26th,at 2PM  from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Summey and Dr. Paul Mason officiating, interment in the family lot of Summerville Cemetery, with Military Honors by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5. Active Pallbearers, Michael Green, Marc Green, Cody Green, Adam Green, Ricky Wyatt, and Stacy Wyatt. Honorary pallbearers the fellowship sunday school class of Summerville First Baptist Church….  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. Mr. Shiver will also be in state at the Church on Wednesday from 1 until 2 P.M. Earle Rainwater Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Floye Louise Campbell, age 92, of Trion, GA passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Oakview Nursing & Rehab. Mrs. Campbell was born September 17, 1919 in LaFayette, GA , the daughter of the late Barney Hampton and Lula Mitchell Hampton. She was a member of Trion First Baptist Church. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by a son, Les Tripp, a step-son, Gary Campbell, sisters, Esther Locklear, Ruth Landers, brother, B.L. Hampton. Survivors include her husband, Bryant Campbell, Trion, GA; step-children Steve Campbell, Phillip Campbell, Abby Searels, Rita Campbell, daughter-in-law, Mary Tripp, sisters, Barnette Brimer, Nell Freeman, Jane Waters, grandchildren, Leslie Tripp Watwood, Jeff Tripp, Brandi Tripp Hammonds, great-grandchildren, Monique Watwood Perry, Tobi Watwood, Jessie Tripp, Ethan Tripp. Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating. Active pallbearers will be Nephews. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. All friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Monday October 24, 2011.

Mrs. Pearl Syble Wesson, age 92 of Harrisburg Road, Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.  Mrs. Wesson was born October 3, 1919 in Chattooga County, GA.  She was retired from Best Manufacturing and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church
   Mrs. Wesson was preceded in death by husband, Robert Wesson; father and mother, William "Bill" and Rosa Crump Durham; brother, Mark Durham; and sisters, Lucy Brown, Thelma  Chastain, Daisy Ramey, Edna Hogue, and Lillian Burke.
   Survivors include daughter, Sue Edwards of Summerville, GA; son and daughters-in-law, Gene and Brenda Wesson, James and Sue Wesson, and Larry and Brenda Wesson all of Summerville, GA. 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev.Terry Shores, Rev. Jason Cowart, and Rev. Tom Rogers officiating.  Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery.
   Mrs. Wesson will lie-in-state on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
   Pallbearers will be grandsons.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.
   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gideon International.

Preacher Jim Cordell 69 of LaFayette passed away after a short battle with cancer on Monday October 17th…He was a faithful servant of the Lord for 40 years …He pastored at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Trion First Baptist, Ruhama Baptist and Walnut Grove Baptist, he was  an Alumni of Shorter College, on the board of trustees for the Baptist Village and the Georgia Baptist Children Homes…Jim loved being with his family and grandchildren, dealing with antiques and working with For Evergreen Landscaping in Rome…He was preceded in death by his parents Shamblin Franklin,  and Lecile Mae Williams Cordell and brother Leonard Cordell….He is survived by his wife of 50 years , Wanda Dycus Cordell, Daughters and son in laws Pam and Barry Bridges of Summerville, Beth and Chip Hood of Rome, a son and daughter in law Chris and Amber Cordell of Cramerton, NC, sister and brother in law Shirley and Dan Deakins of Whitwell, TN. Grandchildren Christopher and Amy Cordell , Jenny, Brynna, and Chantry Bridges , Noah, Braden and Katelyn Hood, and several nieces and nephews….Funeral services will be held from the Trion First Baptist Church on Thursday at 11AM, services will be conducted by Dr. Joel Snider, and Dr. Floyd Roebuck…with private interment in the Walnut Grove Cemetery…The Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 to 8PM and will lie in state at the church from 10 AM until the service hour…In lieu of flowers contribution can be made to the American Cancer society or to aChurch or Charity of your choice…Funeral arrangements for Mr. Jim Cordell are made by Wallis Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette….

Mrs. Edna Josephine Sewell, age 78, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday October 16, 2011 in Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Sewell was born March 10, 1933, in Trion Georgia the daughter of the late Lovett Johnson and Surlina Shrophire Johnson. She was retired from Fortune Mills, and was a member of the St. Thomas Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Edward Eugene Sewell, brother, Rufus Johnson, sisters, Mary Brice, Helen Wooten, Hazel Price and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday October 21, 2011 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Undra Finley officiating with interment in the AMI Cemetery. Mrs. Sewell will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday October 21, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Mr. George Henry Horton, age 85, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Horton was born June 8, 1926 in Portersville, AL, the son of the late Jess and Bertha Grubbs Horton. He retired from Mt. Vernon Mills in 1988. Mr. Horton was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII. He was a member of the F & AM Dekalb Lodge #116 in Lebanon, AL. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Dottie Bryson; sisters, Mary Stone and Miriam Barnes; brothers, Jack Horton and Ray Horton; and 2 Grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Drucilla Horton; sons and wives, George Horton, JR, Charles and Diane Bryson, Sidney and Sheilah Bryson, William and Connie Bryson; daughter and husband, Brenda and Tim Rutledge; 11 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; and 3 Great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with Wesley Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Ami Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Randy Bryson, Chris Bryson, Shawn Bryson, Freddy Bryson, Ryan Bryson, Timothy Rutledge, Charlie Rutledge, and Jerry Rutledge.

Mr. Horton will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
