Mrs. Hermanieta “ Jackie” Gardner, age 89, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Gardner was born September 22, 1922 in Lookout Mtn, GA, the daughter of the late Houston and Myrtle Lecroy Hollingsworth. She was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion, Post 129, Ladies Auxiliary, and VFW Post 6688 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband, Reno Gardner.

Survivors include step-children, Jean Jones and Jeanette Bomi; sisters, Christine Forester and Lois Guffy; nephews, Howard Barnes, Harry Barnes, and Darrell Barnes; niece, Karen Veal; special friends, Jim and Judy Palmour; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Active pallbearers will be Howard Leon Barnes, Darrell Barnes, Scott Barnes, Howard Lewis Barnes, James Bowman, and Brent Barnes. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the VFW Post 6688 Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Gardner will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

Miss Caressa Darlette Gill age 28, of Long Hollow Road, Trion, GA passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011 in Emory Orthopedic and Spine Hospital.  Miss Gill was born December 20, 1982 in Rome, GA.  She was a member of the Trion Church of God of Prophecy.  

Miss Gill was preceded in death by a nephew, Carter Allen Gill and grandfathers, Charles Jefferson Sweet and J. D. Gill.

Miss Gill is survived by her father and mother, Jason "Doug" and Vicky Sweet Gill of Trion, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, Jesse and Nicole Gill of Cummin, GA and Adam Gill of Trion, GA; grandmother, Georgia Ann Sweet of Trion, GA; grandmother and step-grandfather, Helen Gill Williams and Kenneth Williams of Trion, Ga; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Phil Minter officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. 

Miss Gill will lie-in-state Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.  

Pallbearers will be Tony Ingle, Jeff Ford, Matt Ingle, Daniel Ford, Richard Forrester, and Marty Gill.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Trion Church of God of Prophecy and the "spend the night buddies, all the Ford  girls."
     

 Mr. Kenneth Whitfield, age 70 of Cedar Glen Circle, Chattanooga, TN, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011 in the Hospice of Chattanooga.  He was born in Trion, GA on July 13, 1941.  Mr. Whitfield was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church.  He was a graduate of Trion High School Class of 1957 and also played on the 1957 Trion High School State Champion Football Team, graduated from Shorter College, and enjoyed being a Civil War Re-enactor.  He was retired from Roadway Express.
   Mr. Whitfield was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Whitfield; and father and mother, Corbin and Marjorie Whitfield.
   Mr. Whitfield is survived by his wife, Brenda Brimer Whitfield of Chattanooga, TN; sons and daughter-in-law, Clay and Heather Whitfield of Soddy Daisy, TN and Ben Whitfield of Chattanooga, TN; and daughter, Melody Whitfield of  Ringgold, GA.  He was a loving grandfather to Rebekah, Hannah, and Faith; brother, Jimmy Whitfield; and a niece,
   Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the graveside of the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Autrey officiating.  Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery.
   There will be no visitation and the family will meet at the graveside on the day of the service.

Mr. Dewey Henry Hoskins- age 82 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his residence.  He was a member and Deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church in Summerville, A US Army Veteran of Korean Conflict, A member of Masonic Lodge #47, a City Councilman, and formerly employed with Farmers and Merchant Bank, Modern Cleaners, and General Electric Plant.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock  and Alice Hoskins, brother, Charles Hoskins, Sister, Cora Hoskins.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Ruth Hoskins of Summerville, GA; two daughters, Alice and Larry Lee of Port St. Lucie, Fl; Karen Hoskins of West Palm Beach, FL; Son Dewey Dewayne and Bobbet Hoskins of Florence, KY; five grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Roach and other ministers officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 7 pm til 8 pm with Masonic Rites.

Interment will be in the Summerville Cemetary.  Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Home, Inc, Dalton.

MRS. FAYE WAITS OZMENT, age 76, of Rockmart, formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, in Rockmart, Georgia following an extended illness. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Stanley and Effie Coker Waits. Mrs. Ozment was retired from the Sample Department of Mohawk Industries and a member of Four Mile Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, the late Billy Joe Ozment on January 4, 2003, a son, the late Terry Ozment on January 21, 2005, and a sister the late Carol Baker. Surviving are son-Joel Ozment of Rockmart; sisters-Eddie Tinney of Rome, Ruth Howell of Summerville, and Edith McGraw of Cedartown; brother-Dudley Waits of Rockmart; Five Grandchildren, Seven Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Smith officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. MR. ERNEST LEE JACKSON, age 80, of Harrisburg Road (Teloga Community) Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday , October 8, 2011, evening at his residence. He was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on February 27, 1931, a son of the late Rufus and Velma Simmons Jackson. Mr. Jackson was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years serving during Korea and Viet Nam and retired from Roper Corporation after 21 plus years of service. He was a member of the Beersheba Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by his wife the late Joyce Elaine Jackson on July 1, 2011. Surviving are daughters & sons-in law-Christy and Danny Blackwell and Elaine & Richard Stowe all of Summerville; son & daughter-in-law-Jerry & Sue Jackson of Lander, Wy.; grandchildren-Justin Stowe, Morgan Stowe, and Adam Blackwell; great grandchildren-Jaxon Stowe, Claire Stowe, Peyton Stanton, and Blayke Stanton; sister-Maybell Broyles of Summerville; brother-Gene Jackson of Rossville; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden, with military honors by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5. Active Pallbearers-Richard Stowe, Danny Blackwell, Justin Stowe, Morgan Stowe, Adam Blackwell, and Daniel Terrell. Visitation will be Monday from 1 until 2 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Mr. Payne was born June 23, 1931 in Sylvania, AL, the son of the late Herbert Clayton Payne, SR and Viveen Warren Payne. He was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly. Mr. Payne was retired from Caron Yarn. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force . Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Payne Tanner; and 4 brothers, Cledith Payne, Oscar Payne, Melford Payne, and Herb Payne.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lula Mae Payne; children, Felicia Rena Payne, Buford Wayne Payne, Kenneth Carter Payne, II, Herbert Clayton Payne, III.; sisters, Johnnie Lewis, Gwendelyn Thompson, and Virgie Buffington; 18 Grandchildren; and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly. Rev. Houston Eaton and Rev. Denny Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2:00 p. m. until the service hour.
