Mrs. Jackie Ann Smith, age 74, of Menlo, GA, passed away Saturday Morning at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Menlo, GA, the daughter of the late John B. and Stella Parker Willingham. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Chelesa Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Paul Smith, son & daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tamm Smith, grandchildren, Kevin and Sunny Scoggins, great-grandchild, Kayleigh Scoggins, brother Clyde W. Willingham. Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday September 11, 2011, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating with interment in the Greenhills Memory Garden. Mrs. Kathryn "Kat" McWhorter, age 82 of 178 Cherry Street, Trion, GA passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. McWhorter was born March 6, 1929 in Menlo, GA. She was retired from the Georgia Rug Mill and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Trion, GA.
Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her husband, Ray McWhorter; father and mother, William F. Johnson, Sr. and Mable Johnson; and brother, Joe Johnson.
Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dale Scoggins of Summerville, GA; grandsons, Todd and Stacy Barnes of Ringgold, GA and Mike and Stacey Scoggins of Rome, GA; and granddaughter, Shelley and Adam Hawkins of Summerville, Ga; brothers, Jr. and Joyce Johnson of Rome, GA, Willie and Sue Johnson of Summerville, GA, Ron and Sylvia Johnson of Lyerly, GA; brother-in-laws, Lamar and Sally McWhorter of Rome, GA, Lewis and Myrtle McWhorter of Trion, GA, and Roland Fleming of Austell, GA; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey, Rev. Larry Scoggins, and Rev. Charles Bishop officiating. Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. McWhorter will lie-in-state at the funeral home on Saturday, September 10, 2011 where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Todd Barnes, Mike Scoggins, Adam Hawkins, Sammy Fleming, Patrick McWhorter, LeBron McWhorter, and Dexter Parker. MRS. JUANITA MASSEY MARTINEZ, age 80, of Ridgeway Drive-Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 4, 2011, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattooga County, She was born on April 13, 1931 to the late Charles E. and Grace Jackson Massey. Mrs. Martinez was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a son the late Billy Gentry on April 29, 2001, and brothers-the late Leroy Massey, Robert Massey, Pat Massey, and J.D. Massey. Surviving husband-John Martinez; daughters-Carolyn Gentry and Anna Gentry; son-Donnie Gentry all of Rome; sister-Frances Seymore of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Cowart and Rev. Roger Keith officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers the Ladies of New Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Sam Bible, age 88, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away August 30, 2011 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Summerville, only 3 weeks away from his 89th birthday. Mr. Bible was born in Estill Springs, Tennessee, in 1922 to George C. Bible and Eliza Martin Bible. His spent his early life in Winchester, Tennessee, where he attended school, was king of the Crimson Clover Festival, and owned a farm and feed store. He met his wife Willie Swafford Bible in Winchester, where she was a home extension agent.
Mr. Bible and his late brother, George W. Bible, owned and operated Mountain Cove Farms in Kensington, Georgia for many years. After selling the farm, Mr. Bible worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock Life, and was also a builder and an inventor. He was very active in the Summerville First United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted. He was also active in the local Chattooga County Democratic Party.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Kathy Bible Mullen and Peter Mullen of Tallahassee, Florida and grandson Dr. Matthew Mullen of Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are sister-in-law Mary Hembree of Knoxville, Tennessee, cousins Martha Bible Wade of The Villages, Florida and Margaret Montgomery Mefford of Brentwood, Tennessee, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bible was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother, George W. Bible, and his wife, Willie S. Bible.
A memorial service will be held 11 A.M. Sat., Sept. 10, from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Pinson officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens, Winchester, Tennessee, where Mr. Bible will be laid to rest next to his late wife. Graveside service…4 P.M. also on Saturday. Visitation at the funeral home 4 to 7 on Friday Sept. 9, 2011.

MRS. JIMMIE FRANCES FOWLER, age 84, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning (August 31, 2011) in the local nursing home. Mrs. Fowler was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband the late Charlie Lee Fowler.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Lee & Martha Fowler of Summerville.

MRS. ESSIE BROWN GRIGSBY, age 89, of Sloppy Floyd Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia, Wayside Community, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2011)evening at her residence. A native of Chattooga County, She was born to the late John L. and Venice Dodd Brown on October 14, 1921. Mrs. Grigsby was a Charter member of Wayside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and led singing. She was a Summerville High School Graduate where she played basketball; was preceded in death by her husband the late Fay Grigsby in 1978, brothers-David and Pete Brown, sisters-Inez Bramlett and Frances Perrin, and a grandson-Jason Howell.
Surviving are daughter & son-in-law-Phyllis Trena and Gary Howell of Summerville; son & daughter-in-law-Morris and Jo Grigsby of Ackworth; grandchildren-Lane Grigsby, Justin Howell, and Miranda Morgan; great grandchildren-Gavin Morgan, Alexis Morgan, Brodie Morgan, Alyssa Katelyn Morgan, Steven Grigsby & Jacob Grigsby; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
