Mrs. Wanda Nell Lawson Hutchins, age 87 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 in Rossville, Georgia.

Mrs. Hutchins was born in Trion, Georgia on April 16, 1938, daughter of the late Albert Lawson and Ruby Jewel Coots Lawson. She was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ and was retired from the accounting office of Bigelow-Sanford. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hutchins was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hutchins; and a sister, Johnnie Owens.

Mrs. Hutchins is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Ginger Hutchins; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Allen deBord; sister, Betty Shives; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hutchins will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory with Minister Robby Eversole officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Floyd L. Davenport, Sr, Obit (M)

Mr. Floyd L. Davenport, Sr., age 93, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at a NHC Fort Oglethorpe.

Mr. Davenport was born November 13, 1931 in Blue Ridge, GA, to the late H.B. Davenport and Lula Conley Davenport. Mr. Davenport was a veteran of the US Army and prior to his retirement, he worked as a boiler operator at Mt. Vernon Mills. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, being outdoors, playing cards, entertaining and taking care of children, reminiscing and telling tall tales.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Stansell Davenport; brothers, Joe, Vester, Wayne, Charles, J.B., and Ernest Davenport; and sisters, Ruth Cochran, and Mae Hayes.

Survivors include his son, Floyd (Debbie) Davenport, Jr.; sisters, Bertie Shields, Betty Newman, and Lola Bailey; sister – in –law, Doris Gillilan: grandchildren, Gary Davenport, and Stephanie (Jeff) Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Madicyn (Jacob) Morrisette and Mason Jenkins; and great- great grandchildren, Emersyn and Collyns Morrisette.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Davenport will be held in Saturday, November, 1, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Pastor, Phil Minter officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Memory Gardens with Jeff Jenkins, Mason Jenkins, Jacob Morrisette, Jerry Davenport and Roger Painter serving as pallbearers.

Wilene Brooks Bishop, Obit (M)

Mrs. Wilene Brooks Bishop, age 90, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born December 13, 1934, to Bill and Eva Woods Brooks, Wilene lived a long, full life devoted to her family, her faith, and her community.
Wilene was a member of Lyerly First Baptist Church for over 70 years. Her strong faith and commitment to her church were central to her life.
She served her community through her work as a nutritionist at the Parent Child Center and later as a school bus driver, retiring from the Chattooga County School System. A true southern matriarch, Wilene was known for her hospitality and love of cooking – her home was always open, and the table always full. She delighted in having a house bustling with family and friends, believing the more the merrier. She also had a love for travel and found joy in exploring new places with loved ones.

Above all, Wilene will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose kindness, strength, and unconditional love shaped the lives of everyone around her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Bishop; her brothers, Howard Brooks and Clyde Brooks; and her son-in-law, Bobby Goodnight.

Survivors include her children, Rodney and Jan Bishop, Tina and Zane Ham, and Gina Goodnight. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Stacy and Jennifer Bishop, Adrienne and Brian Bennett, Chance and Carla Ham, and Addie and Scott Allums. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Ashley Reese and Justin Goodridge, Tyler Bishop, Devon and Annslee Bishop, Kaylin Bishop, Reagan Ham, Callie Allums, Andrew Allums, Mackie Bennett, and Briggs Bennett; and her great-great-grandchildren, Dawson Crane, Anna Reese, and Graham Reese; a twin sister, Irene Brooks Bishop, and a sister, Shirley Brooks Willingham. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Sunday, October 26, 2025, from the Lyerly First Baptist Church, with Dr. James Baird and Rev. Jon Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Stacy Bishop and Chance Ham, great-grandsons, Tyler Bishop, Devon Bishop, Andrew Allums, and Griggs Bennett; and great-great-grandsons, Dawson Crane and Graham Reese.

Mrs. Bishop will be in state at Lyerly First Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 2:30 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.

Mrs. Alma “Jean” “MawMaw” Maddux, age 86, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, October 23, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Maddux was born February 15, 1939, in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Baty Owens. She was a member of Trion United Methodist Church and was retired from LaFayette Hosiery Mill.

Mrs. Maddux loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, and working with her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Tommy Cline and Franky Cline; a daughter, Patricia Maddux; sister, Jessie Davis; and a brother, Ross Owens.

Survivors include her husband, Graham Maddux, Sr.; daughters, Kaye (Randy) Riddle, Pam Maddux, and Janet Maddux; sons, Colby Dane (Vanessa) Maddux, George Maddux, Jr., Dennis (Ann) Maddux, and Dave (Linda) Dunwoody; a sister, Debbie (Guy) Smith; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jimmie Sue Kirby, age 76, of Menlo, GA, died Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Kirby was born January 18, 1949, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Harold H. “Jim” Baker and Margaret Elizabeth Espy Baker. She attended Menlo Faith Baptist Church and was retired from Mohawk Industries. She had also previously been employed with Richie’s Men and Boys Shop and Orchid Cleaners.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Fred Eller; and former spouse, Steve Kirby.

Survivors include her sons, Stacy (Angel) Rinehart, Kelly Kirby; sister, Barbara Eller; grandchildren, Matthew Rinehart, Brayden Kirby, Lane Rosson, Jaylen White, and Kannon Kirby; nieces, Dee Anna Ward, Abby (Jerry) Scott.

Mr. Marvin Wesley Agan, age 83, of Niceville, FL (formerly of Summerville, GA), died Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at The Opal at Bluewater Bay Assisted Living Center.

Mr. Agan was born April 4, 1942, in Centre, AL, son of the late Cecil Hudon Agan and Thelma Truly Smith Agan. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, was a member of the American Legion Post 129, and was a retired educator with LaFayette High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Athel Mae Walker Agan; daughter, April Reed; granddaughter, Erin Prince; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.

Survivors include her children, Deborah (Chuck) Sizemore, Christopher (Kelly) Agan, Connie (Bryan) Hawkins; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and honorary siblings, Deborah Jean and Larry Blackwell.

Mr. Douglas Lee “Doug” Mahan, age 80 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at his residence.

Mr. Mahan was born in Trion, Georgia on September 22, 1945, son of the late Glover Cooper Mahan and Dorothy Mae Adams Mahan. He was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills where he was employed as a Quality Control Technician for over 40 years. He was member of the Trion Masonic Lodge #160 F&AM, where he had served as past master and chaplain. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and football, especially if it involved the Trion Bulldogs or his beloved Georgia Tech.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mahan was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Douglas Mahan.

Mr. Mahan is survived by his wife, Linda Mahan; son Jeffrey Mahan; brother, Mel Mahan; grandson, Garrett Mahan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Mahan will be held Friday, October 24, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. David Autry and Rev. James Hannah officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Trion Lodge #160 in charge of Masonic Rites.

MRS. ALICE MAE EVERETT COX, age 84 of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Mrs. Cox was born on April 27, 1941 in Chattooga County, Georgia to the late Noel Everett and Coraine Touchstone Everett. She was of the Methodist faith and loved talking with people and never met a stranger. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John William Cox; daughter, Jennifer Dianne Cox; brothers, Clinton Everett, John Everett, and Charlie Everett.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary John Cos Hendrix, (Shane Hendrix), and two grandchildren Ava Hendrix and John Hendrix.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte Nicholson Persons, who left us peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Charlotte was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Charlotte was born on 07/10/1937 and grew up in Sylacauga, AL where she developed a deep love for crafting. She dedicated her life to her family and community, always putting others before herself. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her home was a sanctuary of love and laughter.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Persons, her two daughters, Donna Henderson & Sharon Jordan and her great granddaughter Aiden Swindle. Their memories will forever remain in our hearts, and we find comfort in knowing they are now reunited.

She is survived by her son, Scott Persons/Janet who will forever cherish the memories of his mother’s gentle guidance and unconditional love. Her grandchildren, Taylor Henderson/Tyler, Heather Jordan, Matthew Persons/Marissa and Luke Persons/Asia, who will always remember their grandmother’s stories, hugs, and the special moments they shared. Her great grandchildren, Lynlee & Amelia Davis and Jordan Swindle will remember the joy they brought to Charlotte every time she was around them.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Amanda Montgomery for her exceptional care, compassion, and unwavering support during Charlotte’s illness. Your dedication, patience, and kindness allowed Charlotte to live in her home peacefully through her final days. We are also deeply grateful to her husband, Michael, who was always willing to help in any way he could. Additionally, the family would like to thank Heyman Hospice and her team, Michelle Allie, Jeanette Cavin, Kim Higgins, Melissa Boone, and Jennifer Lawrence. A special thank you to all of Charlotte’s amazing, wonderful and caring neighbors. Charlotte Nicholson Persons will be deeply missed, but her love and light will remain in our hearts forever.

Mr. Harlan General Spillman, age 82 of Menlo, passed away on Sunday October 19th at Oakview Health & Rehab in Summerville.

Visitation will be from 4-9 pm on Thursday October 23rd at Burt Chapel in Fort Payne.

Funeral services will be on Friday October 24th at 2pm CST at Burt Chapel in Fort Payne.  Burial will be in Walker’s Chapel Cemetery in Fort Payne with military honors.
