Mr. Charles Gray Harris age 75 of Lyerly, GA passed away Thursday January 25, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Harris was born February 3, 1948 in Kingston, GA to the late Edgar and Pattie Clemmons Harris. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of New Hope South Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Floyd County Wildlife Club for 24 years.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Johnston Harris, and sister, Micky Parsons.

Survivors include his daughters, Amber (Preston) Harris and Samantha (Justin) Lee; siblings, Harold Harris, Steve Harris, sr., Dorothy Crider, Karla Lingerfelt, and Nancy Wheeler; and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Harris will take place at 3:00 PM Monday, January 29, 2024 at the chapel of Mason Funeral home with Rev. Kenny Roach officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope South Cemetery with Preston Harris, Justin Lee, Brayden Harris, Evan Lee, Greg Thompson, and Steve Harris, Jr. serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Walter Lee Love, Obit (C)

Mr. Walter Lee Love, age 86 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Love was born in Summerville, Georgia on July 5, 1937, son of the late William Marion Love and Fannie Avis Lewis Love. He attended the Mountain View Baptist Church and was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills until his retirement in 2002. He also drove a truck for Patty’s Construction for several years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Love was preceded in death by his first wife, Bobbie Wilson Love; a sister, Ruth Cocker; and three brothers, William Marion “Bud” Love, Robert Love and David Love.

Mr. Love is survived by his wife, Frances Ivanell “Nell” Love; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Joy Love and Carlton and Brooklyn Love; step-daughter, Janet Waldrop; step-sons, Phil (Kathy) Meadows and David Meadows; sister, Jenny Tucker; brothers, Ben Love and Winston Love; sister-in-law, Margie Love; 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Love will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Brandon Love, Steve Love and Anthony Mathis.

Mr. Love will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

MS. JACQUELINE KAY BATES, age 58, of James Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday evening, January 22, 2024, at her residence following an illness. A native Chattooga Countian, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth Edward Bates, Sr. and Mary Ruth Bing Bates. Kay was a homemaker. Phillip Stephen Moseley, Obit (M)

Mr. Phillip Stephen Moseley age 64 of Lyerly, GA passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at a Rome Hospital.

Mr. Moseley was born October 17, 1959 in Summerville, GA to the late Aaron Hugh and Hazel Moseley. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed raising cows and farming, and he was an avid Auburn sports fan.

Survivors include his children, Chris (Greta) Moseley, Jennifer Furman, and Amber (Josh) Whitaker; brothers, Kenneth (Gloria) and Douglas (Joy) Moseley; and grandchildren, Claira Moseley, Jasper Moseley, Anna Furman, Tagan Chatman, and Odin Whitaker.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Moseley will take place at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Pastor David Humphreys and Chaplain Greg Cater officiating.

Mrs. Lizzie Roxie Carnes Young, age 86 of the Teloga Community, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024 in a Rome Hospital.

Mrs. Young was born in Lafayette, Georgia on February 27, 1937, daughter of the late William Hugh Carnes and Alma Annie Cook Carnes. She was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Young loved Jesus, singing Gospel Music, sewing, and working in her flowers gardens, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, John K. Young, Sr.; daughter, Judy Crabtree; sisters, Christeen Scoggins and Clara Jo Wallin; and a brother, Fairley Carnes.

Mrs. Young is survived by a son, John K. “Kelly” Young, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bruce Wallin; son-in-law, Randy Crabtree; brothers, Charles William “Bud” Carnes and Hugh Gene “Rod” Carnes; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Charlie Gilbreath, Ann and Jerry Williams and Eloise Cantrell; brother-in-law, Eddie Wallin; grandchildren, Lacy Bowman, Lindsey and Bryan Keith, Ross and Lindsey Crabtree, Blake and Carrie Crabtree, Kelsy Young and Hagan Young; 11 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. William Stanley Moore, age 72, of Menlo, GA, died Friday, January 19, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Moore was born February 10, 1951, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late William Van Moore and Edith Cavell Jones Moore. Mr. Moore served our country in the United States Army. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was a truck driver for Shaw.

Mr. James Robert Thompson, age 81, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Thompson was born September 24, 1942, in Summerville, GA, son of the late James Vaughn Thompson and Annie Lou Burton Thompson. He was a member of the West Fifth Street Church of Christ, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Dalton Paving and Construction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Burse and Hattie Mosteller; and a brother, Joe Thompson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Valerie Bankston Thompson; daughters, Hattie Williams, Erika Bankston, and Carolyn Williams; a sister, Ivy Nell Haynes; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jackson was born March 13, 1958, in Summerville, GA, the son of Amos Carlton and Vinnie Elizabeth Huggins Jackson. Mr. Jackson was employed with the City of Summerville in the Water Dept., a member of the Chelsea Baptist Church, enjoyed playing bass at church, hunting and fishing.
