Betty Taylor Hancock, Obit (C)

Betty Taylor Hancock passed away on November 27, 2022, at Life Care Center of Gray, Johnson City, Tennessee after an extended illness. She was born on January 16, 1935, to Lawrence and Ina Taylor of Johnson City, Tennessee.

Betty grew up in Johnson City and graduated from Jonesborough High School, Jonesborough, TN. After graduating, she worked in cosmetology for many years before moving to Georgia where she worked and retired from Kennesaw Community College.

Her favorite past time was listening to country and gospel music. She loved it so much, she learned to play the guitar and loved to play and sing with her family, singing in the choir at her local church as well as singing gospel solos.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by an infant son, and her husband, Dennis Hancock, after 37 years of marriage, and her sister, Velma Greene of Greenville, FL.

Survivors include her brother, Lester Taylor (Brenda) of Rockmart, Georgia; five sisters: Patricia Hixson, Frankie Drayne (Eddie); Janice Oliver (James); Linda Lewis (Paul) all of Johnson City, TN, and Gail Taylor of Kingsport, TN, in addition to several stepchildren and step grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be no official visitation services and Betty will be laid to rest at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Calhoun, Georgia on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Everyone attending is asked to be at the cemetery by 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sara Ann Palmer, Obit (M)

Ms. Sara Ann Palmer, age 80, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, November 26, 2022, at her residence.

Ms. Palmer was born January 17, 1942, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Grady Lewis Gaines and Florence Wise Gaines. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, David Palmer; grandson, Tyler Palmer; great-granddaughter, Ansley Blaire Keith Palmer; brothers, Robert Gaines and George Gaines.

Survivors include her children, Ricky (LeAnne) Palmer, Scott (Jennifer) Palmer, RoxAnn Palmer (Benny Humphreys), Wendy Wofford; special daughter, Regina Daley; sisters, Jo Smith, Gail (Leon) Rowlls; the father of her children, LaDon Palmer; 8 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ms. Palmer will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Shaver officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ross Palmer, Jacob Wofford, Scott Palmer, Mike Gaines, Johnny Smith, and Jason Smith.

Derrell Eugene McKeehan, Obit (C)

Mr. Derrell Eugene McKeehan, age 78 of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022 at a Rome Hospital.

Mr. McKeehan was born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 3, 1944, son of the late Eugene Franklin McKeehan and Izora Hamilton McKeehan. He was a member of the N. Summerville Baptist Church, was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a retired truck driver. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes and playing pranks on people. In addition to his parents, Mr. McKeehan was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda Butler.

Mr. McKeehan is survived by his wife, Joyce Elaine McKeehan; Daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jimmy Bishop of Lake View, Georgia and Lee Ann and Kenny Visage of Lafayette, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Linda McKeehan of Rock Springs, GA; grandchildren, Michael McKeehan and Casey Butler; great grandchildren, Addicus “Addie” McKeehan and Sid Jennings; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. McKeehan will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 2:30 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Pastor Sammy Barrett officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Ford, Michael McKeehan, Jimmy Bishop, Casey Butler, Max Colbert and Casey Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. McKeehan will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M.

Mr. Nelson “Rusty” Rhea age 67 of Cedar Bluff, AL passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Rhea was born November 18, 1955 in Chattanooga, TN to the late William and Shirley Morris Rhea. Prior to his retirement he was a professional truck driver and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Mrs. Mary Lou Fleming Martin, age 95, of LaFayette, GA, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Martin was born December 26, 1926, in Chattoogaville, GA, daughter of the late John Clifford Fleming and Flora Lucille Mobbs Fleming. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with LaFayette Manufacturing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Gilbert Martin; a daughter, Sharron Ann Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Irene (John) Ratliff; and a nephew, Donnie Ratliff.

Survivors include her son, Greg Smith; daughters, Sandra (Lonnie) Lee, Paula McNeese, and Jennifer Smith; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Butch (Sara) Ratliff; and special friends, Sonny Scoggins and family, Alan Scoggins and family, and Bud Carnes.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 23, 2022, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Pam Johnson and Rev. Zach Fitzpatrick officiating. MRS. LINDA RUTH REECE, age 81, of Congress Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday afternoon, November 18, 2022, in a Rome hospital, following a sudden illness. She was born on March 6, 1941 in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Wayne Howard and Verna Viola Fannin Blake. Linda was an exceptional business woman, having started a variety of successful businesses. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Robert Lee “Sonny” Reece on December 2, 2021, sisters, Martha Cooper and Wanda Edwards, and an Infant Brother.

Surviving are daughter, Marty and Jimmy Lowery; son, Robert B. and Susan Reece; grandchildren, Cory (Jessica) Reece and Mackenzie Reece; great grandson, Easton Reece; great granddaughter, Brylee Reece; sister, Janette Chadwick; several Nieces and Nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, November 22nd, at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Gary Howell officiating, from United Christian Fellowship, on Highway #114 in Summerville, inurnment in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Adamsburg, Alabama, following the service. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Church. The Family request no flowers or food, and suggest contributions to United Christian Fellowship.

MRS. FAYE CASH, age 70, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 19, 2022, at her residence following an illness. Faye was born on May 15, 1952 in Trion, Georgia to the late Bob and Faye Nell McDowell. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from the District Attorney’s Office after many years of service. In addition to Her Parents, she was preceded in death by Twin sister and brother-in-law, Kaye and Jimmy Don Angles and brother, the late Bobby McDowell.

Surviving are husband, Andy Cash; daughter, Andrea Cash.

Mrs. Bullard was born February 25, 1972, in Fort Payne, AL, daughter of Mary Dale Hairel Bailey and the late James Doyle Waldrop. She was a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church and was employed with Renfroe.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Dobbs.

Mrs. Rosie Helen Lawrence Adams, age 88, of Summerville, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Adams was born May 18, 1934, in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late Carey B. and Frances Elizabeth Jackson Lawrence. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Adams, Sr.; sons, Terry McAuthor Adams and Odell James Adams.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Rickey (Chaidy) Adams, Wiley Adams, Jr, Michael (Mel) Adams, and Larry (Janet) Adams; daughters, Linda Lawrence, Mary Almond, Gloria Adams, and Teresa Adams; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
