Mrs. Martha Jane Savage York age 92 of Summerville, GA passed away early Saturday, June 28, 2025 at a local hospital.

Mrs. York was born March 25, 1933 in Marshall County, AL to the late William and Lena Ross Savage. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she was a member of LaFayette Church of Christ. She loved flower gardening and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John W. York; twin brother; 7 sisters; and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her son, Timothy (Marsha) York; grandchildren, Dallas (Amanda) York and Jon (Emily) York; great-grandchildren, Chandler, Lucas, Lonnie, and Lena York; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mrs. York will take place at 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 1 at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Min. Hugh Glaze and Min. Terry York officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

Edwin Tommy Chapman, Obit (C)

Edwin Tommy Chapman, age 85, of Armuchee, GA, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved family by his side.

Born December 30, 1939, in Tignall, GA, he was the son of Thomas Chapman and Mary (Castleberry) Chapman, proud and hardworking sharecroppers who instilled in him a lifelong commitment to integrity, hard work, and service. He was the eighth of nine children and shared a deep bond with his brothers and sisters.

Tommy spent many years honing his craft as a skilled carpenter and was employed for much of his career by S.I. Storey Lumber Company. His incredible work ethic and craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the community he loved, from countless personal projects to thousands of hours of cheerful service. His work can still be seen today, from the historic Cherokee cabins built at Red Clay State Historic Park, to the massive wooden flume along the Ocoee River, and the restored Civil War cannons on Jackson Hill in Rome.

A longtime member of Old Armuchee Baptist Church, his woodworking talents continue to be enjoyed by the congregation today. He also shared his time as an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 56, where he made a lasting, positive impact on many young men’s lives.

More than anything, he loved his family and cherished simple pleasures, especially road trips to the mountains and to his ancestral home of Cherokee, North Carolina.

He is survived by his loving wife, Johnnie (Smith) Chapman of Armuchee; his children, Tommy Darnell (Gail) of Kingston, Reggy Chapman (Christy) of Armuchee, and John Adam Chapman (Annie) of Armuchee; his grandchildren, Sarah Sisson (Dalton), Jacob Chapman, Ashley Gilbreath (Dalton), Levi Miller (Elizabeth), Catherine Chapman, and Mary Frances Chapman; and his great-grandchildren, Baylee Wright, Kinsley Sisson, and Lexi Gilbreath.

His life was a reflection of service, family, and faith, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at Old Armuchee Baptist Church, located at 6648 Big Texas Valley Road NW, Rome, GA 30165, on Sunday, July 6th at 3:00 PM. Friends and family are welcome to attend.

Mrs. Ida Mae Tapp Kendall age 78 of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, June 27, 2025 at a Rome, GA healthcare facility.

Mrs. Kendall was born February 26, 1947 in Summerville, GA to the late Everett and Roxie Timmons Tapp. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church, the Summerville Silver Sneakers Club, the breakfast club, dance club, and she supported the humane society and local food kitchen.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Kendall; and brothers, William Tapp, Willie Dean Tapp, and James Tapp.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Emily) Kendall, and Julie (Ryan) Fernandez; step-son, Larry (Ann) Kendall; siblings, Willie “Bud” (Nancy) Tapp, Emma (Leon) Caylor, and Martha McKeehan; grandson Dalton Kendall; great-granddaughter Breannon (Dominic) Hochberger; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside and entombment services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Kendall will take place at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Greenhills Memory gardens with Mr. Ralph McWhorter officiating. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Fernandez, Benji Dunaway, Michael Tapp, Eric Housch, Buford Lee Fox, and Grant Norton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Summerville Silver Sneakers Club and Dry valley Baptist Church.

Leila Gwendolyn Thompson, Obit (C)

Mrs. Leila Gwendolyn Thompson, age 64 of Lafayette, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2025 in an Atlanta hospital.

Gwen was born in Austell, Georgia on January 9, 1961, daughter of the late Lewis Richard Sumner and Clara Louise Spear Sumner. She was a member of the Harbor Lights Baptist Church and retired from Shaw Industries. Gwen was somewhat of a homebody that loved to read and care for animals, especially those in their senior years. She had been a foster mother in her younger years, and was a natural caregiver, always looking out after everyone.

Gwen is survived by her husband, Ronnie Thompson; sister, Darlene Mason; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jessie Ray and Ernieta Sumner and Ricky and Wanda Sumner; special niece, Cassidy Sumner; and a number of additional nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Gwen will be held Friday, June 27 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Powell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Ray Sumner, Jason Sumner, Brock Sumner, David Pittman, Brandon Pittman and Cole Luallen. Honorary Pallbearer will be Tim Luallen.

MR. RONALD BRADLEY “BRAD” MONTGOMERY – Age 56, of Summerville, GA passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Brad was born on December 15, 1968 in Trion, Georgia. He was a graduate of Armuchee High School. Brad had a passion for cooking and graduated from Atlanta Culinary School of Arts in 1993. Brad was preceded in death by his brother Trevor Delane Montgomery, grandparents, Eula Mae McCutchins, Daniel and Azzie Lee Montgomery, aunts, Mona Lisa “Doll” McCutchins, Anita McCutchins, Danish Stallworth, Mary Ann Montgomery, and Joyce Montgomery, uncles, Al Ray McCutchins, Dan Montgomery, and Frank Montgomery.

Brad is survived by his parents, Ronald Delane Montgomery and Ann London Montgomery both of Summerville, Georgia, brothers, Michael (Amanda) Montgomery and Cortez Knowles; nieces, nephews, Rachel (Skye) Freeman, Ansley Montgomery, Delaine Montgomery, and Gavin Montgomery; special friend, Tara Foster; other relatives, and friends.

Dorothy “Dot” Battles Wilson, Obit (M)

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Battles Wilson, age 87, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Wilson was born August 23, 1937, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Marshall Frank and Eula Mae Cordell Battles. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a receptionist at Mount Vernon Mills. Mrs. Wilson was also a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class at Trion First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eural Wilson; a son, Dennis Wilson; grandson, Eddie Wilson Bramlett, Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Jeannie Wilson.

Survivors include her sons, David (Melody) Wilson, Jerry Wilson; daughters, Cheryl (Eddie) Bramlett, Teresa (Jackie) McClung; brother, Lucky (Locia) Battles; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 22, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Casey Bramlett, Rev. Michael Cook, and Mr. Andrew Wilson officiating. Christine Wright Reynolds, Obit (C)

Mrs. Christine Wright Reynolds, age 86 of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Reynolds was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on December 13, 1938, daughter of the late Seaborn Paul Wright and Nancy Lucile Young Crawford. She was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Adult Sunday School Class; and was retired from the Century Glove Mill. Mrs. Reynolds was a fantastic cook, avid gardener, both of flowers and vegetables and never turned down an opportunity to take care of her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Hoyt Crawford.

Mrs. Reynolds is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, Carlton “Sonny” Reynolds; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Leah Reynolds and Stan and Kim Reynolds; grandchildren, Caleb and Morgan Reynolds, Christopher Reynolds and Daniel Reynolds; great grandchildren, Lucas Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds and Magnolia Reynolds.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Reynolds will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Smith and Pastor Doyle Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Ronald Stephen “Butch” Camp, Obit (M)

Mr. Ronald Stephen “Butch” Camp, age 76, departed this life on Monday, June 9, 2025, at his home in Menlo, Georgia. Butch resided in Menlo off of Peach Orchard Road with his wife, Alisa Camp. Butch was Baptist by faith and was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He was kind, caring, and always willing to help anyone in need. Butch’s personality was larger than life. He was a gentle soul that always filled every room with laughter, and he uplifted those around him.

Butch was born July 5, 1948, in Trion, Georgia. He is the son of the late Elbert T. “Muley” Camp and Dorothy “Dot” LeCroy Camp. Butch worked hard his entire life providing for his family. He worked most of his adult life at Reichhold Chemicals and continued working in retirement, managing a lawn care business for many people, churches and businesses.

Butch is survived by his wife, Alisa Camp, daughter and son in law, Erica and Don Thompson, step-sons, Patrick Camp and Jason Thomas, step-daughter, Felecia Floyd, his sister, Susan Strickland and nephew, Darren Strickland, five grandchildren, several other nieces and nephews, and a multitude of personal friends that Butch connected with over his lifetime.

There will be a memorial gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2025

Mr. Christopher Dewayne “D.J.” Chapman Obit

Mr. Christopher Dewayne “D.J.” Chapman, age 27, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Friday, June 6, 2025.

Mr. Chapman was born June 11, 1997, in Alabaster, AL, son of Dewayne Chapman and Debra Jean Sparman Cruz.  He was employed with Northwest Georgia Paving.

Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lorene Dupree, Robert Mosteller, Debbie and Jerry Sparman.

Survivors include his wife, Alexis Sluder Chapman; parents, Dewayne and Stephanie Chapman; son, Tyson Chapman; daughter, LaVada Chapman; brothers, Tucker (Baylee) Terry, JaCameron Chapman, Joshua Chapman; sisters, Brooke Sparman and Aneetra Harris.

Funeral services for Mr. Chapman will be held at 3:00 P.M. (Eastern Time) Friday, June 13, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mr. James Wiley Keen, Obit (ER)

MR. JAMES WILEY KEEN, age 73, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, formerly of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025, in a Decatur health care. A native of Trion, Georgia, He was born on October 21, 1951; a Son of the late Herbert Greeson and Myrtle Bell Simmons Keen. Mr. Keen was a member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church, prior to retirement was Supervisor of the Dye Plant for Shaw Industries, and a Veteran of Viet Nam serving in the U. S. Army.

Surviving are His wife, Kathy Keen; sons, James Christopher Keen and Brick Wiley Keen; sisters, Ortha Ward and Lois Smith; brother, Charles Keen; grandchildren, Cody Keen, Ramsie Keen Wright, Carly Keen Wigley, Chandler Keen, Lily Raine Keen, Amber McGraw, Autumn Burdick, Meg Helms, and Ashle Bruce; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Beersheba Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jennifer Walker officiating, interment in Macedonia Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Cody Keen, Chandler Keen, Jared Wigley, Braden Johnson, Chais Helms, and Laramie Wright. The Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. from the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.
