MRS. MAXINE WOFFORD CARGLE, age 81, of Armuchee, Georgia, Little Sand Mountain Community, passed away Thursday evening at her residence. She was born in Rome, Georgia on October 9, 1943, the daughter of the late Jim and Minnie Watkins Wofford. Mrs. Cargle was a member of the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church and was retired from Food Service for the Floyd County Schools.

Surviving are Her husband, David M. Cargle, to whom she was married on August 30, 1969; daughter and husband, Mandy and Jeff Ward; son Chris and Lola Thompsen; grandchildren, Emma Rae and Morgan Ward, and Carla Thompsen.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24th, at 2:00 P.M. from Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Miles Phillips officiating, interment in the Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Andy Allen, Jackson Allen, Jeffery Jarrett, Tim Wesson, Gil Fowler, and Casey Ray. The Family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

MR. JOE G. DAWSON, age 87, of Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday , March 19, 2025, in a Rome hospital. He was a Son of the late Frank J. and Elizabeth Floyd Dawson; life long resident of Gore Community, farmer and logger, and a member of The Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to Parents was preceded in death by wife, The Late Mary Frances Barron Dawson, a grandson the late Chuck A. Hammonds, and siblings the late Frankie Gordon, George, Gene, and David Dawson also died earlier.

Surviving are daughters and spouses, Pam and Ricky Hammonds and Paige and Greg Shaw; granddaughters, Megan Hunter, Clancey and Calen Cooper; grandson, Chris and Avery Hammonds; sister, Jan Ragland; brother-in-law, Jimmy Barron; great grandchildren Elsie Quinn, and Ella Cooper, Autumn, Will, Reese, Callan, and Lexi Hammonds; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 P.M. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor James Baird officiating, interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Sue McCauley Bridges, age 84 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Bridges was born in Trion, Georgia on September 3, 1940, daughter of the late William Henry McCauley and Jewell Ruth Loggins McCauley. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and was a member of the Close Harmony A Cappella Singing Group of the Pennville Church of Christ. Mrs. Bridges was a 1958 graduate of the Trion High School, where she was on the cheerleading squad throughout her high school career, including 1957, when the football team won the state championship. She had worked in the office with Dr. Goodman and Dr. Spivey, was a crew leader with Bigelow-Sanford, worked with her daughter as a Para-Pro at Trion Elementary School and was the owner and operator of Suzy Q’s store in downtown Summerville. She enjoyed spending time at her store, always looking out for things that her customers would want. Along with her parents, Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Don Bridges; sisters, Johnnie McCauley Hayes, Glay Nell Luke and Ruth Ellen Bryant; and a brother, William Henry McCauley, Jr.

Mrs. Bridges is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Kevin Hayes; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Pam Bridges; grandchildren, Haydn Hayes, Jenny Bridges, Holden Hayes, Brynna Bridges and Chantry Bridges; great grandchildren, Jaydn Hayes, Harper Hayes, Ryland Hayes and Bridget Hayes; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bridges will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze and Mr. Ben Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Sand Mountain Church Cemetery.

MR. BENNY E. SPRAYBERRY, age 82, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, March 17, 2025, at His residence. Born in Trion, Georgia on October 5, 1942, was the son of the late Homer C. “Chan” Sprayberry and Edna E. Worsham Sprayberry. Mr. Sprayberry was retired from the construction industry and a member of Pleasant Grove Church Christ.

Surviving are His wife of 60 years, Linda McWhorter Sprayberry; daughters, Karen (Jesse) Teague and Kim (Chris) Nicholson; son, Kevin (Lindsey) Sprayberry; grandchildren, Dalton (Ashley) Gilreath, Cory (Hope) Sprayberry, Chloe (Damien) Walker, Corben (McKenna) Nicholson, Carlee Nicholson, Declyn Sprayberry; great grandchildren, Elsie Sprayberry, Finn Gilreath, Will Sprayberry, Oakley Walker, and Ladd Gilreath.

Ms. Rebecca “Sue” Tucker Turner, age 61, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at her residence.

Ms. Turner was born January 13, 1964, in Marietta, GA, daughter of the late Billy John and Peggy Sue Koonce Tucker. She was a caregiver and a member of the Berryton Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandchildren, Jade Netherland and Blake Turner.

Survivors include her sons, Monte Lee Turner, Jr., Jacob Turner, and Gordon Turner; brothers, Michael Tucker, Stevie Tucker, and Ricky Tucker; sisters, Nancy Hawes, Teresa Riggs, and Phyllis Tucker; grandchildren, Leland Turner, Isaac Turner, Brice Turner, Emily Cash, Ariel Cash, Angelina Brown, and Britney Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Lee officiating. Interment will follow in AMI Cemetery.

Mr. Cecil M. Reynolds, age 86 of the Lyerly Dam Community, Summerville, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at his residence.

Cecil was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 8, 1939, son of the late Lonnie Lee Reynolds and Alice Mae Ragland Reynolds. He was a member and longtime deacon of the Four Mile Baptist Church, and was retired from the City of Summerville where he was a supervisor at the Water Filtration Plant. Cecil was an avid Trader in all things with wheels, whether it be four wheelers, tractors, side by sides or cars. He loved picking his guitars and was a member of the Georgia Mountain Music Club and the Lyerly Gospel Pickers. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marcella June White Reynolds; daughter, Karen Lynn Reynolds Tallent; grandson, Daniel Tyler Reynolds; sisters, Ruby Mae Reynolds Lecroy and Maxine Reynolds Lee; and brothers, Robert Lewis “Bob” Reynolds, Claude Lee “Bud” Reynolds, Leric Reynolds, Raymond Reynolds, and Joe David Reynolds.

Cecil is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Zeta Reynolds; God-daughter and her husband, Karen and Jamey Coffman; grandchildren, Chris Tallent, Courtney Tallent, Treyton(Becah) Coffman and Barrett(Chezlee) Coffman; great grandchildren, Carter Woody and Lainey Kate Coffman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, JC and Sheila White; sister-in-law, Shirley Wrape; close friend, Raymond Swords; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Kevin was a Carpenter by trade and Baptist by faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, the late Brent Scoggins.

Bobby Wayne Goodnight, 84, Leaves a Legacy of Strength and Devotion

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Bobby Wayne Goodnight, a man of unwavering strength and devotion, who departed this life on March 12, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home.

Born on June 7, 1940, in Batesville, Mississippi, Bobby grew up in the heart of the South, where he cultivated a love for the outdoors and a passion for sports. As a standout athlete, he proudly played football for his high school team, which achieved the State Championship—a testament to his dedication and teamwork.

Throughout his life, Bobby exemplified resilience, loyalty, and an unyielding commitment to family. His love for outdoor activities remained steadfast, and he treasured every moment spent with loved ones. His legacy is defined by the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.

Bobby retired from Reichhold Chemical after 33 years of service and later spent 25 years owning and operating Jim’s Family Restaurant. In his later years, he pursued hobbies such as training Labrador retrievers and competing in Field Trials, where he earned numerous championships. He also raised gaited horses and gaited mules that went on to win national and world championships.

Bobby is survived by his devoted family: his wife of 32 years, Gina Bishop Goodnight; his daughter Amy Goodnight Kennedy (Gary); four grandchildren—Scott Chandler Kennedy (Kimber), Rebecca Kennedy Thomas (Ramsey), Lilly Kennedy (Parker Jordan), and Lauren Goodnight Pettie (Luke); four great-grandchildren; his brother Bernard Goodnight (Sandy) of Tarpon Springs, FL; and his sister Gloria Goodnight Grady of Hartford, AL. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Wilene Bishop; sister-in-law Tina Bishop Ham (Zane); brother-in-law Rodney Bishop (Jan); and numerous beloved nieces and nephews whom he cherished deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters—Karen Goodnight and Julia Anne Goodnight; two siblings; and other devoted loved ones.

A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home on Sunday, March 16th, at 3P.M.; visitation will be Sunday from 1 until 3 P.M. Friends and family are invited to honor this remarkable man through shared memories and stories.

Charles Erwin “Charlie” Godfrey, Obit (M)

Mr. Charles Erwin “Charlie” Godfrey, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Godfrey was born November 21, 1957, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late Thomas Warren Godfrey and Frances Theressa “Teet” Hill Godfrey. He was employed with Godfrey’s Tree Service and had previously worked at Dawson Logging. Mr. Godfrey was an all around outdoorsman and enjoyed logging and tree cutting, camping, and riding motorcycles. He was a loving father and pawpaw to all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Nancy Paris, Otis Godfrey, Larry Godfrey, Allen Godfrey, Sheila Teems, Dorthia Farmer, and Audrey Wells.

Survivors include his sons, Adam Godfrey, Kevin Godfrey, and Nathan Godfrey; siblings, Danny Godfrey, Francis Pitts, Belinda Coley, and Glenda Goins; grandchildren, Bryce Godfrey, Brittany Godfrey, Mark Godfrey, Alisha Sparks, Ethan Godfrey, Emma Godfrey, Kruz Godfrey, and Raelyn Godfrey; great-grandchildren, Keeleigh Moseley, Bronson Moseley, Layton Godfrey, Nash Sparks, Elijah Tate Godfrey, Adaley Onika Godfrey, Gracelynn Gail Godfrey, Landon Scott Godfrey, and Charlee Matilda Godfrey; his sons’ mother, Pamela Darlene Godfrey; and best friend, Tammy Noles.

Mrs. Leora Dale Wallace Pelfrey, age 80 of Dallas, Georgia formerly of Trion, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025 at a Rome healthcare center.

Mrs. Pelfrey was born in Lafayette, Georgia on December 11, 1944, daughter of the late Earl Jess Wallace and Virginia Daphine Stiles Wallace. She was retired from Columbia Anderson Construction Company. Mrs. Pelfrey was active with the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed going to Flea Markets, gardening and working in her yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Steve Wallace, Doris Hopkins, Michael Wallace and Donna O’Claire.

Mrs. Pelfrey is survived by a daughter and her fiancé, Cammy Luchina and Todd Kressley and a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Cathy Hamby; sister, Gail Vanco; brother, Lonnie Wallace; grandchildren, Jessie Caleb Wishart, Devin Lee Wishart and Thomas Francis; great grandchildren, Mason Luchina Wishart, Kendyl Grace Wishart, Emerson Francis and Connor Francis; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family of Mrs. Pelfrey will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. at the Coffman Funeral Home. There will be no formal services at this time.
