Mrs. Brenda Gail Browning, age 68, of Summerville, GA,  passed away Friday April 14, 2017,  at her residence.
Mrs. Browning was born August 14, 1948, in Summerville, GA, the daughter of George Franklin Baggett, JR, and Helen Katherine Ash Baggett.  She was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church,  formerly employed  with Century Glove,  preceded in death by a son, Ricky Browning, nephews, Jimmy Allen Evans, Michael Blake Baggett, George Franklin Baggett, IV, and brother-in-law, Calvin Deering
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lindsey Browning,  son and daughter-in-law, Todd & Jennifer Browning, daughters, Becky Browning, Jennifer Browning,   grandchildren, Jessica Browning, Mirgo Mateo, Zack & Heather Black, Austin Campbell, Destiny Browning, Murphy Browning, Lindsey Browning, Devin Campbell,  great-grandchildren, Alivia & Aiden Mateo, Ian & Zoe Black, Trae Campbell, Kennedy Browning, Anna Silvers, Zayden Campbell, & 2 to be born in November,  brothers, Cotton & Pam Baggett, Wayne & Eulene  Baggett, Frank & Cathy Baggett, Jack Baggett, sister, Pat Deering.
 
Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday April 18, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel  with Brother Chris Holman, and Stacy Evans officiating with interment in the Garrett Cemetery.  Active pallbearers, Zack Black, Austin Campbell, Mingo Mateo, Cody Campbell, B.J. Rich, and Tracy Evans.
 
Mrs. Browning will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel and the family will receive friends Monday April 17, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Robert Loyd Pierce, Obit. (ER) Updated

MR. ROBERT LOYD PIERCE, age 53, of Blake Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at his residence.  He was born on November 28, 1963 to the late Bernie Pierce and Eva Jo Luallen Pierce, who survives.  Mr. Pierce was employed with Trees Unlimited, and was preceded in death by sisters, the late Diane Gazaway and Wanda Lee, and a brother, the late Lee Pierce.

Surviving are Mother, Eva Jo Pierce of Summerville; daughter & spouse, Alicia Marianne & Jason Gray of Trion; son & spouse, Christopher Robert & Nicole Pierce of Summerville; adopted daughter, Lindsey Souder of Cherokee Co., Al.; sister, Kathy Pierce; brother, James Pierce both of Summerville; grandchildren, Hailey Pierce, Aleviea Pierce, Savannah Gray, and Alexis Gray.

Funeral service will be held Monday, April 17th, at 4:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Bullard and Rev. Sanford Deberry officiating.  The Family will receive friends Monday from 2:30 until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.  The Family request no flowers, suggest contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Thomas Lamar Collins, Obit (ER)

MR. THOMAS LAMAR COLLINS, age 77, of Lindale, Georgia, formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, in the local nursing home.  A native of Trion, Georgia, Mr. Collins was born to the late Marvin and Natalie Collins, on August 26, 1939.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Mozelle Luallen Collins, sons, the late Michael Anthony Collins & Thomas Ray Collins, and a daughter, the late Kathy Lynn Dodd.

Surviving are son, Gary F. Collins of Summerville, sister, Elaine Collins Blackmon of Summerville, grandchildren, Gary L. Collins, Mindy Lynn Collins Roaderick, Kelsie Ashmore, Jason & Jessica Collins, Jesse & Christy Dodd, Bryan & Breanna Ashmore, Kaitlyn & Homer Williams and Families; several Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Memorial service will be held Monday, April 17th, at 1:00 P.M. from the Pentecostal Power Church with Stevie Collins and Jimmy Collins officiating.

Mrs. Virginia Sue Tucker, Obit (M)

Mrs. Virginia Sue Tucker, age 85, of Gaylesville, AL, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at her residence. 
Mrs. Tucker was born August 26, 1931, in Blanche, AL, daughter of the late James Samuel, Sr. and Mary Tennessee Hampton Goodridge.  She was a homemaker and was Baptist by faith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Roy Tucker; and a daughter, Rose Marie Tucker.
Mrs. Tucker is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gene and Fay Tucker, Michael Tucker, Joey Tucker, and Stacy Tucker; daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Terry Gazaway, Deborah and Jimmy Howard, Annette and Ricky Broome, and Jeanette and Daniel Bone; sister, Vera Alexander; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tucker will be held at 11:00 A.M. (E.S.T.) Saturday, April 15, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J. W. Mitchell officiating.  Interment will follow in Moseley Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be John Tucker, Joseph Tucker, Lynn Broome, David Howard, Brian Gazaway, Donnie Gazaway, and Eric Bone. Honorary pallbearers will be Frankie Aldridge, Jeff Farley, Rodney Kinsey, Gilbert Laney, Dylan Lemming, Cameron Gazaway.

Mr. William David Evans, Updated Obit (M)

Mr. William David Evans, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, AL.
Mr. Evans was born April 22, 1949, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late Wade Allen Evans and Sara Evelyn Allmon Evans.  He was a member of the Old Path Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Director.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Crew Leader with Mohawk.  Mr. Evans was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam where he earned the Purple Heart.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude Evans and Roy Evans; sisters, Hattie Elsberry, Dorothy Pettyjohn, and Ann Ramey; nieces, Pat Hanson and Anna Thompson.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Regina Cornett Evans; son and daughter-in-law, David and Carla Evans; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Chad Dodd; sisters and brother-in-law, Sarah and Russell Woodall, Liz Lee; grandchildren, Cameron Evans, Aubree Evans, Laney Dodd, and Libby Dodd; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Evans will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 15, 2017, from the Old Path Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Price, Rev. George Ashburn, and Rev. Al Johnson officiating.  Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his Mohawk friends and his church family.

MRS. MAMIE ADALINE DOUGHERTY, age 101, of Hwy 157, Cloudland, Georgia passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, afternoon. 

 

Mrs. Dougherty was born in Murray County, Georgia on November 11, 1915; a daughter of the late Julius and Alice Henry Shipman.  She was a member of Lookout Hall Church of Christ, retired from E. T. Barwick Mills, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late William Robert Dougherty, and brothers, Carl Shipman, Earl Shipman, and Charles Shipman.  Special thanks to a special niece, Joan Hawkins, Sandy Weathers, and all care givers.

Surviving are Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, and Great Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. from Graveside in Mount Olive Cemetery, with Minister Emerson Blythe officiating.  Pallbearers Gianni Shipman, Jimmy Rector, Logan Groce, Tanner Groce, Mason Schrader, and Bryn Hutchins. Visitation will be at graveside prior to service, Thursday.

Mr. Herbert Coolidge “Cooley” Dodd, age 90, Obit (M)

Mr. Herbert Coolidge “Cooley” Dodd, age 90, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Dodd was born December 6, 1926, in Summerville, GA, son of the late John Henry and Fannie Tucker Dodd.  He was a member of the Chapel Hill Full Gospel Church, and prior to his retirement, was owner and operator of Dodd’s T.V. and Radio.  Mr. Dodd was also a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John Henry Dodd, Jr., Bill Dodd, and Albert Dodd; and a sister, Arbelle Dodd.
Mr. Dodd is survived by his wife, Nancy Youngblood Dodd; sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Rhonda Young, Jeff Dodd; daughters, Gail Barksdale, June Hightower, and Lynda Dodd; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Dodd will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 13, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sanford DeBerry, Rev. Mike Odom, and Rev. Mrs. Kathleen Howard Reynolds, age 78 of Summerville, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Mt. Berry Hospice Center in Armuchee.

Mrs. Reynolds was born in Summerville, Georgia on July 25, 1938, daughter of the late Leonard Howard and Eula Mae Hamilton Howard.  She was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Mohawk Industries.  IN addition to her parents, Mrs. Reynolds was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Rab” Reynolds, and 2 brothers, Lewis Howard and Horace Howard

Mrs. Reynolds is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Tracey Reynolds; daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Wilkins and Melissa and Barry Wooten; sister, Irene Hunt; grandchildren, Derick and Michelle Wilkins, Leah Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Brandon Wooten, Shaun and LaceyWooten and Amanda and Corey Wright; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Reynolds will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Sanford DeBerry and Rev. Joel Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memory Gardens.

Mr. Marvin Ray Johnson Obit (C)

Mr. Marvin Ray Johnson, age 54 of Summerville, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Emory Midtown Hospital.

Mr. Johnson was born in LaFayette, Georgia on April 4, 1962, son of Kenneth Johnson and Betty Sue York Hayes.  He loved to fish, hunt and ride motorcycles.  Prior to ill health, Mr. Johnson was employed as a truck driver.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his father, Kenneth Johnson; mother Betty Hayes; sister, Gina Cochran; brother, Randall “Homer” Johnson, and his dog, Spot.

In accordance with Mr. Johnson’s wishes, he will be cremated and the family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
