Mrs. Kathryn “Kat” Padgett Obit (ER)

 MRS. KATHRYN OPHELIA “KAT” PADGETT, age 73, of Martin Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday evening in a Rome hospital, following a brief battle with cancer.  Mrs. Padgett was born to the late Dan and Madie Ledford Priest on January 30, 1944.  She was a homemaker and was previously employed at WalMart and Fred’s.  Other than her parents, Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by siblings, Guy Lee McGuire, Essie McGuire, Ollie Dan Priest, Ed Bates, Lorine Arnold and infant brother, Riley Priest.

Surviving are husband, Charles Padgett; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Padgett and Kathy and Darryl Baker; sister, Inez Blackmon all of Summerville; Nieces, Nephews, and Her beloved cat, Tippy and grand kitties, Fancy and Vinnie.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Ben Hix, Dylan Branch, Kenneth Padgett, Sammy Padgett, Brian McGuire, and Chris Davis.  The Family will receive friends Monday from 1 P.M. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.  The Family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 4 South of Floyd Medical Center for their care and compassion, as well as all the staff at Redmond Family Care, of Trion.

Mrs. Elizabeth Carr Wofford Obit (M)

Mrs. Elizabeth Carr Wofford, age 86, of Summerville, GA (formerly of Menlo), passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Wofford was born September 29, 1930, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Arthur and Sarah McAteer Carr.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church.  Mrs. Wofford was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Edwards; brothers, Andy Carr, Lewis Carr, and Amos Carr; former spouse and the father of her children, Thomas Bryant Wofford; and a special niece, Francis W. Gilreath.

Mrs. Wofford is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn (Rodger) Holton, Nancy (Murray) Garrett; sons and daughter-in-law, John Dean (Carol) Wofford, Glenn Wade Wofford; sisters and brother-in-law; Opal and Rev. Ralph James Sumner, Mabel Coley; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wofford will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Sumner officiating.  Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons and include Dana Merian, Alton Smith, Jay Walker, Michael Jackson, Andy Howard, and Stacy Mason.  Honorary pallbearers will be Barbara Massey Reece, Nobia Wright, Larry Weesner, Jack Carr, Teicher Montgomery, and the staff of Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Kline Franklin Young Obit (C)

Mr. Kline Franklin Young, age 56, of Trion, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Young was born in Cullman, Alabama on July 31, 1960, son of the late James Dupree Young and Mamie Edna Rusk.  He was a long time veteran of the United States Army, serving until he was injured in the Gulf War.  He was a loving and faithful and devoted husband and father.  Mr. Young was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Young; grandson, Daniel Ray Dixon; an infant sister, Sharyn Young, sister, Gail Young, and a brother Dale Young.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife Brenda “Sue” Young; son Jason Young, daughter, Jessica Young; step-children, Jeremy and Sherrie Marks, Michael Bumbalough and Amanda and Anthony Flowers; brothers, Keith Young, Kimbrell Young and Gary Young; sisters in law, Annette Marks, Jeannie Marks and Darlene Mack; and grandchildren and great grandchildren that include, Jasmyne Young, Kylie Young, Hayden Young, Christopher Woods, Joshua Lee Woods, Alyssa Strom, Dylan Marks, Aiden Marks, Carson Marks, Blaken Marks, Barbara Denae Dixon, Vada Dixon, Kimberly Monique Dixon and Allison Michelle Dixon

Mr. Dwight David Young Obit (ER)

MR. DAVID DWIGHT YOUNG, age 64, of Tate Road, Trion, Georgia passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, morning in a Rome hospital. 

A native of Chattooga County, He was born on November 17, 1952, to the late Herman Young and Dorothy Frances Cordle Austin, who survives.  David was a member and Deacon of the Summerville First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Adult Choir.  Beside His father, was preceded by a sister, the late Doris Edwards.

Surviving are wife, Mary Johnson Young; Mother, Dorothy Austin; sister, Mary Young and Nancy Mauaghan of Pennsylvania; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Mason and Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden.  The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mr. Jack R. McCrickard Obit (M)

Mr. Jack R. McCrickard, age 79, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. McCrickard was born September 4, 1937, in Chattoogaville, GA, son of the late John William and Lena Bell Copeland McCrickard.  He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed as a truck driver with Mohawk.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert L. McCrickard and William Frank McCrickard.

Mr. McCrickard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Jean McCrickard; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Alan and Roberta McCrickard, John David McCrickard; a daughter, Melody Lynn Ayers; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Amelia McCrickard, Gary and Loretta McCrickard; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Nick Stoner; grandson, William Jack McCrickard, granddaughters, Amber Nichole Gorham, Stephanie Diane Dunn, Jamie LeAnn Cromer, and Robin Gable; great-grandsons, Seth Dunn and Charles Gable; great-granddaughters, Kourtlyn Gorham, McKinna Gorham, Malaya Jean Shireman, and Piper Lynn Cromer.

Mrs. Jessie Mae Hall Tucker, Obit (M)

Mrs. Jessie Mae Hall Tucker, age 87, of Menlo, GA died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at her residence.

Mrs. Tucker was born April 22, 1930 in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of the late James Hall and Ella White Hall.  She was retired from Best Manufacturing. Mrs. Tucker was a member of Alpine Community Church.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman L. Tucker; daughter, Carolyn Kaye Tucker;  brothers, John Hall and Leon Hall; sisters, Vera Crye, Jo Thornberry, and Ruby Crowe.

 Mrs. Tucker is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Charles Davis and Vicki and Wayne Boyd; grandchildren, Benji Stanfield, Kristin (Brandon) Croy, Brandon (Autumn) Davis, Kevin (Heather) Boyd, and Gail Richardson; 11 Great- Grandchildren; and 5 Great-great-grand-children.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pledger and Rev. Rodney Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Alpine Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Lynn Hall, Jeff Martin, Eric Brown, Gene Gazaway, Jason Tucker, and Ralph Tucker.  Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Alpine Community church, Pam Helms, and Susan Barnes.

MR. ROBERT "BOB" LIVELY, age 89, of LaFayette passed away, Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017.

Bob retired from Regal/Mount Vernon Mill in Trion, Ga., with 34 years perfect attendance.

Preceded in death by his son, Steve Lively and daughter, Mary Jo Mitchell.

Survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mae Storey Lively; grandchildren, Tiffany Raines of Summerville; David (Jennifer) Mitchell, Terry (Christy) Mitchell all of LaFayette, and Tony (Carrie) Lively of Trion; step-son, Larry Stansell of LaFayette; daughter-in-law, Becky Lively of Summerville; thirteen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral from the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel Saturday, May 6th at 2 PM, with Pastor Chris Holman and grandson Tony Lively officiating.

Interment in Trinity Cemetery.

Mrs. Nell Woods Vaughn, Obit (M)

Mrs. Nell Woods Vaughn, age 80, of Menlo, GA, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Vaughn was born May 3, 1937, in Summerville, GA, a daughter of the late Earl F. and Mellie Martin Woods.  She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as an inspector at Best Manufacturing.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.  She enjoyed gardening, home improvement shows, and taking care of her family.  Prior to poor health, she was very active in her church; singing in the choir and serving in the child care ministry.  She was a quiet (sometimes) and dignified lady with a feisty streak.  She will be greatly missed.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her brothers, Allen Woods and Donald Woods; a sister, Sherry Bishop; and her daughter-in-law, Tammy Vaughn.
 
Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her husband, Pete Vaughn; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Tasha Vaughn; sisters, Hazel Galloway, Martha Davis, and June Mitchell; grandchildren, Hayden and Ansley Vaughn, Taylor and Ashleigh Vaughn, Josey Edwards and Tyler Whitlock, and Aubrie Edwards; and 3 great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Vaughn will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 8, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Decker officiating.  Interment will follow in the AMI Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jimmy Espy, Dickie Vaughn, Taylor Vaughn, Hayden Vaughn, and John Vanhorn.

Ms. Glenda Battles, age 54, of Lyerly, GA, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at her residence.
 
Ms. Battles was born April 14, 1963, in Centre, AL, daughter of Martha Fuller Battles and the late Claude Battles.  She was Baptist by faith and was employed as a department manager at Wal-Mart. In addition to her father, Ms. Battles was preceded in death by an infant son, Derek Battles; and a sister, Shirley Rickett.
 
Ms. Battles is survived by her son, Michael Battles; daughter, Jessica Battles; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby Battles, Carlton Battles, Earl Battles, Gary and Jacque Battles, Jerry and Joyce Battles, Terry and Gwen Battles; sisters, Dorothy Battles, Doris Battles, and Tina Battles; and a grandson, Bradley Battles.
 
Graveside and interment services for Ms. Battles will be held at 4:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Friday, May 5, 2017, from the Mill Creek Cemetery with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating.  Pallbearers will be Michael Battles, Johnny York, Jeffrey Blackmon, Gary Battles, Steven Wigley, and Bobby Battles.

Mr. Kelley Amos Edgeworth Obit (ER)

Mr. Kelley Amos Edgeworth, age 89, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, in a Rome hospital. 

He was born in Trion, Georgia, on October 10, 1927, son of the late Charles and Lena Hunter Edgeworth.  Mr. Edgeworth was retired from Chattooga County Public Works and was a member of the Community Holiness Church.  He was preceded in death by a daughter the late Shirley Ann Edgeworth.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Ann Siffles Edgeworth; son Johnny Edgeworth; Grandson Joseph Edgeworth; Great Granddaughter Whitley Chandler; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 3rd, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Stevie Collins and Rev.
