Mr. Gordon Henry Reynolds Obit (C)

Mr. Gordon Henry Reynolds, age 80, of Trion, GA passed away Sunday, April 09, 2017 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Summerville, Georgia on May 10, 1936, son of the late Gordon Reynolds and Lillian Tudor Reynolds.  He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Trion, was an avid hunter, and prior to retirement, was employed with Solution Fibers as a Creeler.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Cargle and Louise Pledger; and brothers, Dan Reynolds, Lee Reynolds and Fred Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Mary Reynolds; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Susan McCoy Reynolds; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Marilyn Reynolds; grandchildren, Blake and Codi Reynolds, Dustin and Charlotte Rush, Jacob Dobbs and Lexi Dobbs; 5 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Reynolds will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bailey, Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Andy Coker officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Dempsey, Horace Payton, David Peace, Terry Shores, Robert Brown and Mike Odom.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the F-Hall Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehab Center and members of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Mr. Reynolds will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the Funeral hour.

Mr. Jackie Whitley Day, Jr. Obit (C)

Mr. Jackie Whitley Day, Jr. age 57 of Signal Mountain, TN formerly of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 06, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Day was born in Rome, Georgia on June 13, 1959, son of Jackie Whitley Day and Shirley LaVaughn Stewart Ducker.  He had most recently been associated with North Summerville Baptist Church, loved to fish, ride go-karts and listen to gospel music.  Mr. Day was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doyle D. and Mary Evelyn Mitchell, Naomi Day and an uncle, Robert Franklin Stewart.

Mr. Day is survived by his mother and step-father, Shirley and Newell Ducker; father, Jack Day; brothers, William Race Allen, Shaun Day and Mark Ducker; sisters, Kristie Barnes, April Day and Saundra Mobbs; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Day will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Rocky Bradford officiating.  Interment will follow in the Trion Cemetery.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Day will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Ruth Warren Treadaway, Updated Obit (Coffman)

Mrs. Ruth Warren Treadaway, age 97 of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in the local nursing home.

 

Mrs. Treadaway was born in Berryton, Georgia on March 26, 1920, daughter of the late Hines Warren and Lizzie Kinsey Warren.  She was a former in home care-giver, loved flowers and gardening and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Treadaway was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Maxey, second husband, Harold Treadaway; sisters, Elizabeth Powell and Artichia Kellett; and brothers, Jack Warren and Archie Warren.

 

Mrs. Treadaway is survived by her daughter, Colleen Dyer of Summerville; grandson, Brandon Treadaway of Warner Robins; brother and special sister-in-law, Brimp and Clara Warren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside and Interment services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the family plot in Summerville Cemetery with her grandson, Mr. Brandon Treadaway and Mr. Brandon Gurley officiating.

 

In accordance with the wishes of the family, there will be no visitation for Mrs. Treadaway.

 

Those desiring to attend the services for Mrs. Treadaway are asked to meet at the Summerville Cemetery at 10:45 A.M. Saturday.

MR. DANIEL L. HUSKEY, age 59, of State Line Road, Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, morning at his residence following an illness.  He born in Fort Payne, Alabama on March 10, 1958 to the late David Franklin and Mary Ruth Holbrook Huskey; he was a supervisor for Harriett-Henderson Mills.

        Surviving are wife, Linda Huskey; sisters & spouse, Charla Welch of Summerville and Kim & Donna McGuire of Cloudland; brother & spouse, Charles & Karen Huskey of Athens, Tennessee; nieces & nephews, Mike and Margaret McClellan and Mark and Michell Ford, David & Hope Huskey, Alex Huskey, Mary Bearden, Anna Wright, Alex & Andy Wright, & Charletta Samples.

        Funeral service will held held Thursday at 3:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Odom officiating.  Pallbearers, Mike McClellian, T. R. Mrs. Wanda June Cross Obit (M)

Mrs. Wanda June Cross, age 77, of Panama City Beach, FL, passed peacefully in her sleep on March 29, 2017, at a long-term nursing facility in Marietta, GA, after a brief struggle with C.O.P.D. and heart disease.
Wanda was born November 6, 1939, in Conception Junction, MO, daughter of the late Frank and Doris Ingram Griffey.  During this time when the country was still in the Great Depression, it became necessary to split the family.  Wanda was given the opportunity of going wither mother’s sister, Bertha, and husband, Gary Turner, to be cared for.  The family later reunited and it was as if Wanda had never left.
Family and friends were Wanda’s passion and delight.  Wanda thoroughly enjoyed traveling and her time spent living on a house boat on Lake Lanier, GA.  During her later years, she enjoyed the friendships of her neighbors in Panama City Beach, FL.  She was an active member of the Eastgate Christian Fellowship in Panama City Beach, and leaves behind many kind and caring friends.  In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Wright; second husband, Jackie Cross; brothers and sister-in-law, Gerald Griffey, Tom Griffey, and Alice Lenore Griffey (Murphy); and a granddaughter, DeLinda Murphy.
Wanda is survived by her sons, Garrison Wright of Atlanta, GA, Joseph Wright of Chamblee, GA and his wife, Linda Irvin Wright; step-sons, Jeff Cross, Gary Cross, and John Cross; step-daughters, Susan and Cathy; brothers, Bill Griffey of Adel, IA, Earl “Jeremy” Griffey of Capitola, CA, Robert Griffey of Sunnyvale, CA; sister-in-law, Oneida Brown of Cloudland, GA; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews; and several other relatives and close friends.

Mr. Russell David “R.D.” Morrow, age 76, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Morrow was born February 3, 1941, in Fayetteville, TN, son of the late Tom and Lula Mae Hall Morrow.  He was a member of the Summerville United Methodist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Millwright Local 1263.  Mr. Morrow was a member of the Old Chattooga County Bass Club and a retired member of the Summerville Fire Department.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Yarbrough Morrow; son, David Morrow; brothers, James Morrow and Ray Morrow; and sisters, Edith McCollum and Dot Evans.
Mr. Morrow is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Von Morrow, Jeff and Michelle McCary, Clint McCary, and Mike McCary; daughter, Lisa Morrow; brother, Forrest Morrow; sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Bill Quintrell; sister-in-law, Brenda Ward; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Miss Betty Joyce Tucker, age 84, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Miss Tucker was born October 22, 1932, daughter of the late Arthur S. and Agnes O’Donnell Tucker.

Miss Tucker is survived by her brother, Donald Tucker; sisters, Bonnie Spear, Dorothy Harrelson, Ann Young, and Peggy Doherty.

Mrs. Foye Mae Gardner, age 94, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday March 31, 2017, at her residence.  Mrs. Gardner was born December 29, 1922, in Chattooga County GA, the daughter of Homer and Della Brady Mitchell.  She was a home maker, and worked at the glove mills for many years, a member of the Pennville Missionary  Alliance Church, She taught children’s Sunday school for many years at her church, she loved to cook and crochet, giving most of the things she made to her family and friends. She was  preceded death by her husband, Paul Lamar Gardner, son, Harold Mitchell Gardner, great-granddaughter, Cassidy Alexis Gardner, sisters, Mae Ward, Evellyn Mitchell brothers, Gene Mitchell, Otis Mitchell, Doyle Mitchell, and Lonnie Mitchell.  
 
Survivors include her son, Tommy & Judy Gardner, grandchildren, Ginger & Greg Hutchins, Jeff & Tabatha Gardner, Stacey Gardner, Scott Millican, Ron Millican, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday from  the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carlos Martinez  officiating with interment in the Pennville Alliance Church Cemetery.  Active pallbearers, Gary Abernathy, Kyle Abernathy, Greg Hutchins, Matthew Price.

Mr. Gerald Dale Dowda, Obit (M)

Mr. Gerald Dale Dowda, age 72, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, at his residence.
Mr. Dowda was born August 27, 1944, in San Antonio, TX, son of the late Raymond and Juanita Thomas Dowda.  He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed as a biomedical technician with Humana Metropolitan. Mr. Dowda was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one great-grandson.
Mr. Dowda is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Katerina and Robert Ball, Tammy and Gary Broyles, Angela Chism, and Loretta Washington; the mother of his children, Lucille Rainey; brothers, Jack Dowda and Tommy Dowda; a sister, Beverly Dowda; 17 grandchildren; 33, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mr. Dowda will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.
