Mr. Bobby Sherrill Wilbanks Obit (M)

 
Mr. Bobby Sherrill Wilbanks, age 81, of Cedar Bluff, AL, formerly of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday December 31, 2016, at the residence.
Mr. Wilbanks was born March 2, 1932, in Trion, GA, the son of Tommy Otre and Lula Mae Strickland,  he was retired from the Chattooga County Sheriff Department and was a member of the Berea Church of Christ.
 
Survivors include his children, Tommy Wilbanks, Sherylon Smith, Sandra McCray, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral  service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 3, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Berlin Murphy  officiating with interment in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons.
Mr. Wilbanks will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday January 2, 2017, from 6 to 8 p,m,

Ms. Tonga Regina Brooks Obit (C)

Miss Tonga Regina Brooks, age 55 of East Armuchee Road, Summerville, died December 31, 2016 at her residence.

 

Tonga was born in Summerville, Georgia on May 24, 1961, daughter of the late Clyde Wesley Brooks and Mary Frances Teems Brooks. As a younger child, she attended school at Woodlawn School in Rome.  She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Subligna, where she was know by all for singing “Amazing Grace” Tonga loved gospel music and enjoyed going to church.  She never met a stranger and was always smiling.  Tonga enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing Mario Kart on her Nintendo Wii, and also enjoyed playing Mario Golf on the Game Cube.  IN addition to her parents, Tonga was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Ava Brooks and Arthur and Mary Teems.

 

Tonga leaves behind two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kikie and Ken Cochran of Teloga and Diana and Harold Callan of Subligna. She also leaves behind a niece, Scarlett Brooks and three nephews, Chase Hall, Gene Callan and Corey Callan all of Summerville.

 

Funeral Services for Tonga will be held Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Hobbs and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Corey Callan, Gene Callan, Ken Cochran, Chase Hall, David Shields and Rick Land.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Wayne Ritchey, Pam Helms and the staff of Redmond Family Care in Trion.

 

Tonga will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.  On Monday, she will be taken to the Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she will lie in state from 10:30 until the funeral hour.

Mr. Lewis Clifford McWhorter Obit (C)

Mr. Lewis Clifford McWhorter, age 91 of Trion, GA passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 in OakView Nursing & Rehab Center.

Mr. McWhorter was born in Trion, Georgia on October 4, 1925,  son of the late John Shamblin McWhorter and Sarah Bean McWhorter.  He was self employed in automobile sales and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, Mr. McWhorter was preceded in death by his son, Lewis LeBron McWhorter; sisters, Dorothy Fleming and Betty Parker; and a brother, Ray McWhorter.

Mr. McWhorter is survived by his wife of 72 years, Myrtle Howell McWhorter; his daughter, LaBrenda  (Ray) Henson and his daughter-in-law, Shirley McWhorter; and brother, Lamar (Sally) McWhorter; grandchildren, Belinda McGill, Phillip (Beth) McGill, and Rena (Anthony) Richardson; great grandchildren, Keley McGill, Cody Richardson, and Sky Richardson; great-great grandchildren, Zoey Slayton and Brylan Chambers.

Funeral services for Mr. McWhorter will be held Monday, January 2, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Pledger, Rusty Dooley, Ralph Barnes, Patrick McWhorter, Dale Scoggins, and Joseph Jackson.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Staff of OakView Nursing & Rehab Center and Members of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Mr. James Alvin “Juke” Smith, Jr, Obit (C)

Mr. James Alvin "Juke" Smith, Jr. age 62 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in Floyd Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born April 8, 1954 son of the late James Alvin Smith, Sr. and Elizabeth Jewell Smith. He was self-employed as a Construction and Carpenter worker. Mr. Smith loved to fish, shoot pool, and hang out with friends. Mr. Smith was Baptist by faith.

Mr. Smith is survived by brothers, Dan Smith and Paul & Pamela Smith; and sister, Wanda Smith; nieces & nephews, Jason & Adam Smith, D'juna Smith, Daniel Smith, Landon Smith, Emma Self, Leslie Smith, and Joshua Smith; and several close friends.

MRS. NELLIE BEATRICE MORGAN, age 83, of Piedmont Avenue, Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, in a Rome health care.  She was born on August 10, 1933, in Trion, Georgia, a daughter of the late Joseph Eugene and Eunice Estelle Fomby Peterson.  Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. Walter L. Morgan, on November 17, 2013.

Survivors include daughters & sons-in-law, Cheryl J. & Donald R. Thedford, Jr. and Janice L. & Randy C. Jennings; son & daughter-in-law, Rickey M. & Brenda Morgan; granddaughters & spouses, Stacy L. & Jeffrey S. Kirby, Amy L. & Jeremie D. Wallin, Tiffany N. Jennings; grandsons & spouses, Clayton J. Mr. Hermon Lee Pollard, SR. Obit (Willis)

 MR. HERMAN LEE POLLARD, SR.  – Age 86 – Of Summerville and Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his daughter’s residence.   He was a member and Deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and retired from U. S. Pipe of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Price Pollard, son, Herman L. Pollard, Jr., parents, Ira H. Pollard, Sr. and Ethel Benton Pollard, brothers, Ira Pollard, Jr., Roy Pollard, Otis Pollard, and sister, Gladys Couch.

 He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Pollard (Stephen) Jones of Cartersville, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Rhonda H. Pollard; granddaughters, Tamara Cameron and Ashley Pollard; grandsons, Michael Farmer of Summerville, Georgia, Emanuel Jones, Titus Jones, Caleb Jones, of Cartersville, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Pollard, Sara Ann (Noah) Harris, Classie Evans, Linda (William) Morgan, Faye (John) Martin;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

 Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00 P. M. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 281 Georgia Avenue, Summerville, Georgia with Pastor Kevin Roach officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.  Internment, Summerville  Cemetery.  Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home in Dalton.

 

Mrs.Christine Guest Obit (C)

Mrs. Christine Guest, age 87 of Summerville, formerly of Lafayette, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Rosewood Assisted Living Center in Ft. Oglethorpe.

Mrs. Guest was born on Sand Mountain in Alabama on January 5, 1929, daughter of the late Carl Chamlee and Mary Pearl Stockton Chamlee.  She was a member of the Center Point Baptist Church, and was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Guest was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Guest.

Mrs. Guest is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronnie Hawkins of Summerville; son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Janice Guest of Flintstone; sisters, Jane Chapman of Ft. Oglethorpe and Nell Ott of Memphis; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment services for Mrs. Guest will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 3:30 P.M. in the Lafayette Memory Gardens.

There will be no formal visitation.

The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent, however those desiring may make memorial contributions to their favorite charity in Mrs. Guest’s Honor.

Mrs. Vanessa Kay Deering Carter, age 38 of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.

 

Mrs. Carter was born in Rome, Georgia on February 9, 1978, daughter of Jimmy Deering and Vivian Lynn Schrader Falls.  She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Virginia Deering.

 

Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Gregory Carter; sons, Raphael Quadon Jabez Falls, Xavier Chaheen Falls, Tshimanga Montez Johnson, Master Viventeeno Meeks and Timothy Zacchaeus Meeks; father, Timmy Allen Deering and his wife, Helen; mother, Vivian Schrader Falls; brothers, Nathaniel Allen Deering and Brandon Falls; sisters, Rosanna Faulkner and Courtney Falls; Isaiah Jabez Falls and Dominik Eugene Falls; grandparents, Jimmy Ray Deering, Leonard and Nancy Schrader and Virginia Vibbert; Mother-in-law and father-in-law, Perry and Deborah Carter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Carter will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating.  Interment will follow in the Naomi Cemetery.

Mrs. Teresa C. Elrod Busbin, age 50, of Lyerly, GA passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016, at her mother’s home in Lyerly.

Mrs. Busbin was born July 11, 1966, in Trion, GA daughter of Betty L. Burrage McNeese and the late William Roy Elrod.  She attended the Redemption Worship Center and was employed with I.H. Services.  In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Donald Leon McNeese; and her mother-in-law, Mary “Jackie” Busbin.

Mrs. Busbin is survived by her husband, Terry James Busbin; daughter, Brenna LeeAnn Busbin; mother, Betty L. McNeese; brother and sister-in-law, Nathaniel L. and Tammy J. McNeese; sisters and brother-in-law, Rebecca Louise Edwards, Sherry Lynn and Jon Odell Mitchell, Cleta Marie Farrow; and several nieces and nephews.
