Mr. Rodney Lamar Rosser, age 46 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 at his residence following an extended illness.

Rodney was born in Rome, Georgia on June 7, 1978, son of Janet Reed Orr. He was employed with the Roper Corporation, where he was a hyster driver. Rodney was an avid music lover and loved Reese’s Candies and Little Debbie Cakes. He enjoyed eating out, playing Mortal Kombat, tinkering with cars, electronics and anything with buttons, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family, his girls, and his grandchildren. Rodney was preceded in death by a grandson, Colter; step-dad, Larry Orr; and his grandparents, Bobby and Barbara Blalock.

Rodney is survived by his girls, Ashley(Jared) Campbell, Chasiti Rosser, Chloe Rosser, Kenzie Rosser and Maddi Rosser; honorary children, Fantasy Alley, Jon Alley, Emma Alley and Eddie Ally; mother, Janet Orr; girlfriend, Keri Alley; sister, Lisa Richardson(Anthony Black), grandchildren, Bricelyn Campbell, Lincoln Campbell, Asher Skinner, Blaine Alley, Mannon Dupree, Destry Heard, Olivia Shropshire and Oliver Alley; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Services for Rodney will be held Monday, January 20, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Bullard officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his children, Ashley, Chasiti, Chloe ,Kenzie, Maddi, Fantasy, Jon, Emma and Eddie.

William Eugene Henderson, Obit (M)

Mr. William Eugene Henderson, age 99, of Trion, GA, died Friday, January 17, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Henderson was born March 20, 1925, in Fort Payne, AL, son of the late Wallace Lee Henderson and Flora Annis Roberts Henderson. He was a member of Trion First Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Riegel/Mount Vernon Mills as a repacker in the Packing Department. He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Mr. Henderson was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and was one of Chattooga County’s last remaining World War II veterans. He was also an avid gardener, especially with flowers, as well as being an avid college football and Atlanta Braves fan.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Lowry Henderson; son, Billy Larry Henderson; daughter-in-law, Joyce Campbell Henderson; sisters, Verna Leo (James) Bennett, Olira Louise Medina; a brother, Glenn Thomas Henderson; grandchildren, Marcy Ann Henderson, Clinton Lee Henderson, and Scott Alan Henderson; and a son-in-law, Jack Sparks.

Survivors include his son, William Lee (Linda) Henderson; daughters, Patricia (Waymond) Tudor, Karen Sparks; a sister-in-law, Nancy Carol Lowry; grandchildren, Lisa (Ronnie) Hicks, Billy (Niki) Henderson, Edward Tudor, Brittany (Terry) Smith, and Nathaniel Sparks; great-grandchildren, Bailey Henderson, Brody Henderson, Bowden Henderson, Annalynn McCurry, Owen Smith, and Lilith Smith; as well as special family friends, Opal Deering, Annette Podschelne, Connie Barnes, Sheliah Sisson, Betty Mortensen, Gail Hughes, Joanie Hughes, Tina (Jeff) Holcomb, Tommy Grimes, Dale Wilson, Carolyn Hill, Terry Green, and all of his Trion First Baptist Church family.

Funeral services for Mr. Henderson will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Casey Bramlett officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tony Patterson, Ronnie Patterson, Britt Carpenter, Steve Lowry, Harold Tucker, and J.C. Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Green and the Trion First Baptist Church Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.

Sherry Lizbeth Strubel Call, Obit (M)

Mrs. Sherry Lizbeth Strubel Call, age 73, of Gaylesville, AL, died Sunday, January 12, in a Rome, GA hospital.

Mrs. Call was born June 9, 1951, in Elmhurst, IL, daughter of the late Bernard and Rita Pulley Strubel. She was a rural mail carrier with the US Postal Service, where she retired. She graduated from Southern Illinois University, was a true artist, loved sewing and designing clothes, had a degree as a Gold Smith, and loved gardening.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Clayton Call; Sisters, Joyce (Rick) Drees; Nieces, Sara Drees, Danielle Strubel, Lyndzee Riley; Nephews, Jacob Drees, Cameron Drees.

According to her wishes a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jason Matthew “Julio” McWhorter, Obit (C)

Mr. Jason Matthew “Julio” McWhorter, age 49 of Leesburg, Alabama, formerly of Trion, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 unexpectedly at his residence.

Jason was born in Rome, Georgia on June 30, 1975, son of Ralph E. McWhorter and Vickie Lynn Smith McWhorter. He was a member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church and was the owner of Elite Millwright Services. Jason was a volunteer assistant coach for the Trion Wrestling Team. He enjoyed fishing, drag racing and Georgia Football, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jason was preceded in death by his sister, Sherrie Lynn McWhorter Thrasher on March 28, 2024.

Jason is survived by his wife, Wendy Lenderman McWhorter; sons, Jason Matthew “Matt” McWhorter and Jacob Wells; daughters and sons-in-law, Hannah and Sam Cotroneo and Caitlin and Cain Higgins; parents, Ralph and Vickie McWhorter; sister, Candie McWhorter; brother, William McWhorter; grandchildren, Carter Cotroneo, Athens Wells, Hollis Higgins, Greyson Higgins, Annalise Higgins and Carson Higgins; a very close work family and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Jason will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Bobbie Nell Brewster Boling, age 77, of Calhoun, GA, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Boling was born January 12, 1947, in DeKalb County, AL, daughter of the late William E. and Dovie M. Hulgan Brewster. She was retired from the Floyd County Department of Family and Children’s Services where she served as a case worker. Mrs. Boling enjoyed cooking, gardening, and working in her yard. She was a friend to everyone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Boling; siblings, Henry Thomas Brewster, James Arthur Brewster, Ronnie Brewster, Thomas Brewster, Billie Jo Harkins, Laura “Patti” Sigler, Ruby Norris, Ollie Henderson, and Stella Louise Brewster.

Survivors include her children, Christopher Boling, Dake (Kim) Boling, and Justin Boling; brother, John (Judy) Brewster; sisters, Gladys Hartline, Frances Bernice Wells; grandchildren, Reyn Boling, Hannah Boling Boazman, Autumn Boling, MariAllen Boling, Isabel Boling, and Alexander Boling.

Max Berlen “Pops” Murphy, Sr, Obit (M)

Mr. Max Berlen “Pops” Murphy, Sr., age 88, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Murphy was born October 11, 1936, in DeKalb County, AL, son of the late L.E. and Josie Murphy. He was a member of Berea Church of Christ throughout his adult life and served as a dedicated minister for many years. Mr. Murphy enjoyed his time by working, spending time gardening, and visiting with others. He was active with the Boy Scouts for 58 years, was the co-founder of B.S.A. Troop 245 in Gaylesville, and also served as Scoutmaster. He humbly served our country in the Army, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. After his service, he returned home and became a self-employed brick mason for the remainder of his life. He continued to work until his recent brief illness.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Rapley Murphy; brother, R.L. Murphy; and sister, Virginia “Jenny” Hughes.

Survivors include his sons, McConnell (DeAnna) Murphy, Max Jr. (Connie) Murphy, and Michael (Heather) Murphy; grandchildren, Luke Murphy, Coleman (Sara Beth) Murphy, Hannah (George) Murphy-Corntassel, and John Michael Murphy; great-grandchild, Mason Murphy; sister, Sara Tallent; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and church family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (GA Time) Monday, January 13, 2025, at Berea Church of Christ (2102 County Road 62, Gaylesville, AL 35973) with Min. Douglas Teague, Min. David Mitchell, and Min. Andrew Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Berea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joey Adams, Tyrone Morgan, Luke Murphy, Coleman Murphy, George Corntassel, John Michael Murphy, and Mason Murphy.

Mr. Murphy will be in state at Berea Church of Christ and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon (GA Time) until the hour of service on Monday.

Mrs. Teresa Faye Collins Lowe age 65 of Rome, GA passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 at a Rome, GA hospital.

Mrs. Lowe was the ultimate master of the original Nintendo, champion of Zelda, Empress of Jeopardy, and the Queen of Yahtzee.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Betty Overbay Collins, and grandsons, Zack Edwards and Marcus Pickel.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, John Lowe; children, John (Gerica) Lowe, Melissa Collins, Julia (Kenneth) Hines, Shannon Pickel, and Amy Wigley; siblings, Jeri Carter, Beverly Davidson, Robin Campbell, Rev. Millie Ruth Hardin, Obit (ER)

MRS. MILLIE RUTH HARDIN, age 87 of Macon, GA, formerly of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Mrs. Hardin was born on December 27, 1937, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late James Arvill and Evelyn G. Lemming. She was a retiree of Wometco Food Services, where she was the executive assistant to the general manager. She was a faithful member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Millie played basketball in high school and enjoyed bowling, golf, and vacationing in the north Georgia mountains. Her favorite hobby was cooking. She won a Southern Living cooking contest for the Rome region in 1998 with her vegetable casserole. Millie also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, and solitaire. Millie will be remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Elizabeth Hardin of Macon, GA., and brother James F. Lemming, Trion, GA. In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dwight L. Hardin and her sister Margaret A. Williams.

The family is especially thankful for the care and friendship of the special people of Caryle Place where she was a resident for the past 3 years and for the Pine Pointe Hospice nurses and staff that attended her during recent months.

Funeral services will be held January 6, 2025. The family will greet friends from 11am to 12 noon and the funeral will follow at the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. The burial will be in the West Hill Cemetery.

MR. BILLY LAVERNE “WILD BILL” CULBERSON, Jr., age 74 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 in a Rome hospital. He was born in Athens, Tennessee March 11, 1951, son of the late Leonard Laverne and Bessy Velma Burse Culberson. He was Baptist by Faith and a Pulp Wooder and Farm Hand for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Culberson, Paul Culberson and Ed Culberson.

Surviving are his son and spouse, Willy and Barbara Culberson; brother, Harve & Jean Culberson; granddaughter, Georgia (Stwart) Kelley; grandsons, Cameron Culberson, Nate Culberson, and Gabe Culberson; several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

MR. JIMMY EVERETTE TYLER, age 69, of 10th Street-Trion, Georgia, passed away at home on Saturday, January 4, 2025, following an illness. Mr. Tyler was born on September 23, 1955, in Quincy Florida, son of the late Theodore Everette and Mary Elizabeth Hayes Tyler. He was a Truck Driver by trade and Baptist by Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Tyler, Jr.; daughter, Shannon Marie Tyler; brothers, Hoppy Tyler, Danny Tyler and T. Tex Tyler; sisters, Gladys Richards, Louise Miller and Nell Day.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene Tyler; daughters, Kaisha Blackmon, Samantha Carter and Tiffany Moody; sons, Paul T. Carter, Simon Carter; sisters, Jeanette Chambliss, Margie Richardson, and Cindy Tyler; brother, Tony Armstrong; 22 Grandchildren, Several Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
