Mr. Michael Anthony Greene, age 51, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Greene was born in Lafayette, Georgia on November 29, 1964, son of the late Scott Lee Greene and Jeanette Goodson Greene. He was a member of Living Waters Ministries, and prior to ill health had been employed with Black and Meek, and in the logging industry.

 

Mr. Green is survived by a son, Justin Rhinehart; brothers, Chris Greene, Jason Greene, Jeff Greene; sisters, Lisa Craig and Karen Wood; 2 grandchildren; special friend, Linda Lee and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Greene will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Shelley Trammell, Dusty Trammell, Joseph Hudgins, Chuck Wood, Logan Greene, Coty Williamson, Neal Black and Wade Laney.

Mr. Robert Lee “Bubba”Cochran Obit (C)

Mr. Robert Lee “Bubba” Cochran, Jr., age 28, of Summerville, Georgia passed away suddenly Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Cochran was born in Rome, Georgia on August 5, 1987, son of Robert Lee Cochran and Regina Lynn Johnson Cochran. He had been employed with Mt. Vernon Mills and loved to fish and swim.  Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Georgia Mae and Leonard Cochran.

 

Mr. Cochran is survived by his father, Robert Lee Cochran, Sr.; his mother, Regina Lynn Johnson Cochran; sons, Seth Lee Comer and Jeremy Alexander “Xander”; brother, Charles Cochran; step-sister, Selena Cochran; maternal grandparents, Betty Hayes and Kenneth Johnson; Uncle, Terry Cochran; his dog, spot, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

Mr. Cochran will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6 until 8 P.M.  At other hours, the family can be contacted at their respective residences.

Mr. Kenneth Randy Fowler, age 56, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Saturday April 30, 2016, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Fowler was born July 13, 1959. He was previously employed by Best Manufacturing and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

 

He is preceded in death by his father; Harold Fowler.

 

Survivors include his wife; Mary Nell Fowler, mother; Maxine Fowler, Son; Shane (Christy) Barrett, daughter; Amanda (Jason) Horton, sister; Pat (Johnny Wynn, grandchildren; Jayme, Jessica, and Alia Barrett, Brayden White, La'Shonda & Andy Horton, and Miranda Chancellor, great-grandchild; Parker McGuffie, 6 nieces and nephews, and several aunts and uncles.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Fowler will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 3, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Williams and Rev. Johnny Wynn officiating. Interment will follow at Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Barrett, Jason Horton, Andy Horton, Josh Elrod, Justin Elrod, and Steven McCary.

Mr. John Calvin Wright

Mr. John Calvin Wright, age 88, of Menlo, GA passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Wright was born June 15, 1927, in DeKalb, AL, the son of the late Juril Thomas and Annie Wright Rape. He was retired from Bigelow-Sanford,  a veteran of the United States Army, and a member of Menlo First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Aileen Madaris & Betty Bufford, and his brother; Gene Rape.

Mr. Wright is survived by his wife; Mary Nell Wright, and a son; John Calvin Wright, Jr, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Wright will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday,  May 1, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Matt Hall officiating.  Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, David Nichols, Ken Scott, Dillon Smith, Steve Smith, Keith Smith, and Jamie Hankins. Honorary pallerbearers will be Mark Goodson, Mark Borman, Anthony Hudgins, and the men and women of Menlo First Baptist Church.

Mr. Leon D. Arnold (C)

Mr. Leon D. Arnold, age 72, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Erlanger Medical Center.

 

Mr. Arnold was born in Summerville, Georgia on July 4, 1943, son of the late Henry Thomas Arnold and Mamie Lee Hawkins Arnold.  He was a graduate of Chattooga High School, and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Berry College.  While attending Berry College, Mr. Arnold was a two time Golden Glove Champion Boxer.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army as a combat engineer, was a member of the 46th Special Forces; earning the Vietnam Service Medal, the Parachutist Badge, the National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  Mr. Arnold was of the Baptist Faith, loved to hunt, fish, garden, camp, and spend time with his family.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed with World Carpet as an accountant.  Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his sisters, Jessie Ivey, Jo Cook; brothers, Gene Arnold, Noah Arnold, and Henry Thomas Arnold, Jr.

 

Mr. Arnold is survived by his daughters and sons-n-law, Beth and Tony Bean, Amy and Scott Miller and Ashley Epperson (Johnnie Dawkins); brothers, Otho Arnold, James “Rydo” Arnold; sisters, Anna Isom, Kathleen(Lamar) Curvin, Juanita Thornton, Patsy Thornton and Marilyn Patterson; grandchildren, Laura Shattuck, Chelsey Arnold, Grace Miller, Bryce Epperson and Megan Miller; 2 great grandchildren, Matthew Shattuck and Anton Ivanov; his friends, Claude and the Barber Shop Gang; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Arnold will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Vernon G. Gregory (C)

Mr. Vernon G. Gregory, age 79, of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness.

 

Mr. Gregory was born in Athens, Tennessee on July 1, 1936, son of the late Charles F. Gregory and Josephine “Josie” Moore Gregory.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army, and prior to retirement was self employed in the Construction and Pulpwood Industry.  Mr. Gregory loved to go to Flea Markets, and could be seen regularly at Trade Day.  He also liked to farm, garden, work with wood and build things in his workshop.  IN addition to his parents, Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother.

 

Mr. Gregory is survived by his wife, Elsie Jean Gregory; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Randy Keith; two grandchildren, Daniel (Cathy) Nelms and Casey Nelms; two great grandchildren, Emma Nelms and Riley Nelms; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Gregory will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lafayette City Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Doris “Aunt Doris” Southerland (C) Updated

   Mrs. Mary Doris “Aunt Doris” Southerland, age 89 of Trion, Georgia, formerly of Lafayette, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at her residence.

   Aunt Doris was born in Lafayette, Georgia on October 2, 1926, daughter of the late Oscar Monroe Watson and Ruby Elzora Strickland Watson.  She was a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church, but following her move to Trion, she had been attending the Berryton Baptist Church.  Aunt Doris retired from the Weave Room at Mt. Vernon Mills.  She was a member of the Quarter Century Club, attended the Sr. Neighbors in Lafayette, enjoyed shopping and loved flowers.  In addition to her parents, Aunt Doris was preceded in death by her first husband, Newt Elliott, second husband, William Lee Southerland; and sisters, Nora Louise Williams and Katie Ruth Campbell.

   Aunt Doris is survived by a step-son and his wife, Richard and Maureen Southerland; special niece and care giver and her husband, Kay and Billy Bennett; special friend, Shirley Crain; 2 step-grandchildren, Aaron and Phillip Southerland; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Funeral Arrangements for Aunt Doris Southerland will be Saturday, April 30 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Petitt Chapel of Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Skates and Rev. Mike Wallin officiating.  Interment will follow in LaFayette City Cemetery.

MR. JOSEPH LEE (JOE) EVETT, age 33, of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 28th, 2016, at his residence.  Born on September 28, 1982, a son of Vickie Stoker Davis and Bobby Evett, who survive.  Mr. Evett attended the Berryton Church of God and was worked in lawn service with his father.  He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, the late Amos Stoker, Sr..

        Surviving are daughters, Isabella Evett and Mallory Evett; former wife, Cathy Sims; mother & step father, Vickie & Wayne Davis; father & step mother, Bobby & Debbie Evett; sister & brother-in-law, Heather & Chris Stewart; paternal grandparents, Robert & Carolyn Evett; maternal grandmother, JoAnn Stoker; several Nieces and Nephews.

Mrs. Linda Jean Luttrell Johnson (M)

Mrs. Linda Jean Luttrell Johnson, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at her residence.

 

Mrs. Johnson was born April 17, 1949, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Clarence Oscar and Hazel Lee White Luttrell.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Tommy LaDon Ramey.

 

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Tammy Wilson; a brother, Ron Luttrell; grandchildren, Brad Edgeworth, Tyler Wilson, Kristen "K. J." Wilson; great-grandchildren, Emma Edgeworth and Brailey Edgeworth.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, April 30, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Russ Blackwell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Brad Edgeworth, Tyler Wilson, Justin Farmer, Kheenen Miller, Jake Walker, and Jacob Wooten. Ronald Luttrell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Mattie Belle Bishop Elrod (M)

Mrs. Mattie Belle Bishop Elrod, age 67, of Resaca, GA, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Menlo, GA.

 

Mrs. Elrod was born April 1, 1949, in Belleville, TX, daughter of the late Robert Morris Bishop and Doris Marie Lyons Bishop.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and caretaker.  She was devoted to God and her family and was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.   She never met a stranger and she loved working for and with the public.  She worked with her daughter, Jerri, and son-in-law, Eddie, in the family business for 10 years.  She had also been employed with Best Manufacturing for approximately 17 years.  Not only did she love people, but she loved flowers and animals as well.  Mrs. Elrod thoroughly enjoyed life.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Eugene Bramlett; brother, Robert "Bob" Bishop, Jr.; and grandparents, Mattie Lyons and Jess Lyons.

 

Mrs. Elrod is survived by her husband, Joel "Tommy" Elrod; daughters and sons-in-law, Jerri and Eddie Massey, Sherri and Kenny Cooley; a brother, Jesse Bishop; sister and brother-in-law, Doris Marie and Jim Nunnery; grandchildren, Vanessa Massey, Lee Massey, Rachel Cooley, and C. E. Massey; great-grandchildren, Zaidee Moore and Sammy Moore; special nieces, Leslie Thompson and Terri Clark. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Memorial services for Mrs. Elrod will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, April 30, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pledger, Rev. Kenny Roach, and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Saturday.
