Sammy Franklin Brown, Obit (C)

Mr. Sammy Franklin Brown, age 83 of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Brown was born in Summerville, Georgia on October 23, 1941, son of the late Judson Brown and Hester Stancil Brown. He was a member of the Teloga Baptist Church and was retired from John D. Stephenson Company, where he was employed as a heavy duty mechanic. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed working on cars, lawnmowers and any type of machine, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittaninee Brown Collins; sister, Grace Ingles and Glenda Ann Wood; and brothers, Gerald Brown, Alvin Brown, Dennis Brown, Paul Brown, Hoyt Brown, JW Brown, James Brown and Steve Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Martha Dean Peace Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy Brown, Richard and Becky Brown and Tommy and Tammy Brown; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorthene Phillips, Pat and Ivis Harris, and Tammy Jo Brown; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Brown will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Teloga Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Weaver and Rev. Ivis Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Brown, Demetrius Brown, Branden Brown, Paul “Duggan” Brown, Hunter Brown, Logan Brown and Taylor Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of Teloga Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 27, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Coffman Funeral Home. Mr. Brown will also lie in state at the Teloga Baptist Church Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Brooksie “Granny” Mitchell, Obit (M)

Mrs. Brooksie “Granny” Mitchell, age 92, of Summerville, GA, took her last breath on this side of life and her first breath in Heaven on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Mitchell was born September 14, 1932, in Cullman, AL, daughter of the late Floyd Williams and Myrtis Willingham. She was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a Creeler for World Carpet in Dalton, GA.

Mrs. Mitchell loved her family and was a very strong woman who lived what she believed. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, reading, and putting together puzzles. She loved anything Thomas Kinkade.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Mitchell; the father of her children, Roy Patterson; sisters, Wilda Ashley, Faye Lyles; and daughter, Ann Pritchett.

Survivors include her sons, Ronnie (Wanda) Patterson, Tony Patterson, Wayne (Joyce) Pritchett; step-son, Spunky (Cindy) Mitchell; grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Willingham, Jackie (Angie) Pritchett, Patricia (Dave) Howard, Denita Allmond, Merri (Jesse) Blankenship, Kirk (Jennifer) Patterson, Joe (Becky) Patterson, Neal Patterson, Jennifer (Kasey) Smith, Stacey Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, and Blake Mitchell; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 23, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matthew Willingham officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tony Patterson, Ronnie Patterson, Jackie Pritchett, Tim Willingham, Dave Howard, Kirk Patterson, Jesse Blankenship, and Devin Bentheimer.

Mrs. Deborah Jean “Debbie” Hall, age 66 of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in a Rome hospital.

Debbie was born in Trion, Georgia on October 12, 1958, daughter of the late Harry Lowell Peace and Shirley Yvonne Anderson Peace. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and was the former owner of Southern Living Farm and Garden and Debbie’s Daycare. Debbie enjoyed mowing her yard, shopping with her sister, watching her grandson in his Rodeo competitions and traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Adams.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Randy Hall; daughter, Ashley Hall; son and daughter-in-law, Zach and Jamie Hall; sister and brother-in-law, Melody and Randy Mitchell; grandchildren, Carsen, Jadon, Nayla, Braxton and Rance; a great grandchild, Kaylee; special niece, Kristy Tucker; and a number of additional nieces, nephews and family members.

Funeral Services for Debbie will be held Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Willingham officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

MR. JOHN WAYNE CHAMBERS, age 84, of Melba Drive, Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, in Trion, Georgia, He was born in Trion, Georgia to the late John Mac and Mattie Bryan Chambers on January 13, 1940. Mr. Chambers was Methodist by Faith, a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Korea, and was retired chemical operator for Rico Industries. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a sister, the late Doris Bryant.

Surviving are daughters, Amy (Ben) Stanfield and Mary Beth (Darrin) Morrison; grandchildren, Micah and Mason Hughes, Levi Stanfield, and Brandon Morrison.

Mrs. Lillian Haas Sizemore, age 90, of Rome, GA (formerly of Trion), died Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mrs. Sizemore was born July 19, 1934, in Windsor, CO, daughter of the late Phillip and Mary Becholdt Haas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Sizemore; a daughter, Cynthia Hale; sisters, Wilma Haas and Elsie Haas; and a brother, Ruben Haas.

Survivors include her son, Steven (Sherri) Sizemore; daughter, Karen (Barry) Baker; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 19, 2024, at West Hill Cemetery with Bro. Darrell Wilson officiating.

Mr. Danny Ray Bryan, age 71 of Trion, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 14, 2024 at a Chattanooga, TN hospital.

Danny Ray was born in Trion, Georgia on June 3, 1953, son of the late Harold Bryan and Dorothy Nunn Bryan. He attended the Central Avenue Baptist Church and was retired from the Chattooga County School System, where he was employed at the former N. Summerville Elementary School. Danny Ray was an avid Miami Hurricanes Fan and enjoyed watching and coaching football, watching the Andy Griffith Show and riding around in his Blazer, but his favorite activities were taking care of his dogs and spending time with his son, Rankin.

Danny Ray is survived by his wife, Cindy Bryan; son, Rankin Bryan(Autumn Brewton); a sister, Teresa Bramlett; and a number of additional extended family and friends.

Funeral Services for Danny Ray will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Hampton and Coach David Humphreys officiating.

MRS. POLLY HAYES, age 96, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in the local nursing home. She was born in Trion, Georgia on August 26, 1928, to the late Oliver and Annie Ray Colbert Farmer. Mrs. Hayes, for 37 years was an executive secretary for Riegel Textile-Mount Vernon Mills. She attended the Pennville Church of Christ and the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. In addition to Parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Billy Joe “Jug” Hayes and brother, the late Don Farmer.

Surviving are her sons, Steve Hayes and Kevin (Betsy) Hayes; sister, Sylvia Starkey; grandchildren, Preston (Jamie) Hayes, Nicki Collins, Haydn (Kandace) Hayes, Holden (Annabeth) Hayes; great grandchildren, William Hayes, Aliya McBryde, Jaydn Hayes, Harper Hayes, Ryland Hayes, Bridget Hayes, and Janae Moore; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 2 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Ministers Hugh Glaze and Rick Lawson officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. MRS. PLUMA ALICE ORR, age 83, formerly of Summervile, Georgia, passed away Wednesday morning, December 11, 2024, in a Rome, Georgia assisted living. She was born in Trion, Georgia on July 12, 1941, a daughter of the late Hubbard and Myrtle Simmons Keen. She was a member of the Pennville First Baptist Church and retired from the Training Department of Mount Vernon Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Eugene Orr, and siblings Nellie Woods and Melvin Keen died earlier.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Camille Orr; grandchildren, Alex Orr, Adam Orr, and Emma Orr; sister, Ortha Ward and Lois Smith; brothers, James Keen and Charles Keen; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mrs. Sherry Gail Peters, age 68 of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024 in her home after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Mrs. Peters was born at the Trion Hospital on June 6, 1956, daughter of the late Riley Joel Adams and Mildred Louise Bailey Adams. She was the former owner of Sherry’s Conoco and was currently employed as a cashier with United Grocery Outlet. Mrs. Peters enjoyed playing Rook with her daughters, reading, playing online poker with worldwide friends, watching her grandsons play sports, and going to Trade Day and yard sales. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peters was preceded in death brothers-in-law, Harold Crider, Donald McCord and Larry Peters; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Daniels and Joyce Coller.

Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lonnie Peters; daughters, Crystal (Brent) Brady, Misty (Josh) McCullough and Starr (Caitlyn) Peters; grandchildren, Logan McCullough, Lonnie McCullough, Lucas McCullough, and Masen Brady; sisters, Judy Crider and Jean McCord; special niece, Teresa Bishop; nephews, Jeremy McCord and Shane McCord; and a number of additional family members and friends.

Mrs. Reba Evelyn Gill, age 77, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Gill was born December 3, 1947, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Thomas Watson Garner and Edith Cordelia Gentry Garner. She was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a lunchroom manager with the Chattooga County School System.

Mrs. Gill loved her family and was a very strong woman who lived what she believed. She served as Church Treasurer, a job that she took over from her mother. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and was famous for her homemade biscuits.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Robert Gill; brothers, Russell Garner, William (Jean) Garner.

Survivors include her sons, Russell (Charlotte) Gill; Thomas Gill (and special friend, Serena Bristol); a daughter, Rebecca (Jason) Tucker; grandchildren, Arielle and Chris Walsh, Zachary Gill, and Alex and Chase Hall; and great-grandchild, Brantley Ford Walsh.
