Mrs. Marion J. Peppers obit (ER)

MRS. MARION J. PEPPERS, age 80, of West Springcreek Road, Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, at her residence.  A native of Trion, She was born on May 1, 1935; a daughter of the late James Harper and Lillian Dover Ingram Blackmon.  Mrs. Peppers was retired from the spinning department of Candlewick Yarns, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Charles W. Peppers in October, 1999.

Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Walter L. Peppers of Trion and Larry & Debra Peppers of LaFayette; sisters, Bonnie Blackmon of Trion and Shirley Kiser of Summerville; brothers, James Blackmon of Trion, Johnny Blackmon of Summerville, and Ricky Blackmon of Trion; step sister, Betty Blackmon of Atlanta; step brothers, Donnie Blackmon of Trion, Buddy Blackmon, and Rufus Blackmon both of Atlanta; seven Grandchildren, twelve Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 15th, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright and Rev. John Mann officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery.  The Family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Franklin Eugene Pickle obit (M)

Mr. Franklin "Frank" Eugene Pickle, age 82, of Trion, GA, died Monday, December 14, 2015, at his residence. 

Mr. Pickle was born April 21, 1933, in Berryton, GA, son of the late Henry Guy and Vera Cox Pickle.  He was a member of the Sonrise Community Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Harriet and Henderson.  Mr. Pickle was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Farmer Pickle. 

Mr. Pickle is survived by his sons, Frankie Pickle and Tina Rogers, Alan Pickle; step-sons, Randy Finster and Michael Finster; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.  

Graveside and interment services for Mr. Pickle will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 16, 2015, from the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Mike Odom officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Adam Jenkins, Tom Touchstone, Chris Gwynn, Tiny Scroggins, Ewell Price, and John Jenkins.  Cody Mathis will serve as honorary pallbearer. 

Mr. Pickle will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Mrs. Elaine Barkley Obit (M)

Mrs. Elaine Barkley, age 57, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday December 12, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Barkley was born July 6, 1958, in Lafayette, GA, the daughter of the late Jim Andrew and Elizabeth Elaine Morgan Odum.  She was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Randy J. Barkley, and a brother, Tracy Odum.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Chrissy and Jeremy Campbell; son, Kevin Barkley, brothers, Jim Odum, Tommy and Angie Odum; sister, Diane Odum White; and a grandson, Cain Campbell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barkley will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 15, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Malcom Harris officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lafayette City Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Daniel Gentry, David Parris, Carl Gentry, Cain Campbell, Jeff Edge, and Thomas Maddux.  Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Campbell and Ronnie Thompson.

Mrs. Idell McGee Spears Obit (M)

Mrs. Idell McGee Spears, age 97, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, December 11, 2015, at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mrs. Spears was born July 15, 1918, in Fyffe, AL, daughter of the late Claude and Lula Brown McGee.  She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.  Mrs. Spears retired from Mount Vernon Mills in 1980, and after retiring, worked with her son, "Dee" at Southern Bedding in Summerville, GA.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orbra L. Spears; son, Gerald Spears; daughter, Genice Spears Pearce; grandson,  Joey Spears; and 10 brothers and sisters.
 
Mrs. Spears is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Orbra "Dee" and Candi Spears; sister, Zubie Jean McGee Benifield; brother, Doyce McGee; grandchildren, Todd Spears, Pam Whimpkey, Brad Spears, and Casey Spears; great-grandchildren, Ben Whimpkey, Caden Daniel, and Emma Daniel.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.
 
Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Spears will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, December 14, 2015, from the Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. Steve Spears officiating.  Active pallbearers will be nephews, Dwayne Carroll, Danny Carroll, Richard McGee, Glen McGee, and grandsons, Brad Spears and Todd Spears.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie McGee, Ricky McGee, Christian Brown, and the staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Ted Floyd obit (ER)

MR. TED FLOYD, age 85, of Halls Valley Road, Trion, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, in a Rome hospice center.  Mr. Floyd was born in Trion, Georgia to the late Deforest and Martha Grimes Floyd on June 21, 1930.  He was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, and retired laboratory technician from Rico Chemical Company.  Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his children, the late Earl Floyd, Randy Floyd, Kenny Floyd, and Wanda Shelton.
Surviving are His wife, Betty Floyd; brother & sister-in-law Russell and Carolyn Floyd of Veor Beach, FL.; special friends, Pam Thrasher, Kimberly Lesperance, and Katie Lesperance;  several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Mr. James Madison Moseley obit (m)

Mr. James Madison Moseley, age 90, of Gaylesville, AL, died Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Redmond Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Moseley was born October 7, 1925, in Lyerly, GA, son of the late Ervin Silvester and Minnie Gertrude Tucker Moseley.  He was a member and deacon of the Friendship Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, worked as a farmer.  Mr. Moseley was also a veteran of the United States Navy where he served in World War II. 

Mr. Moseley is survived by his wife, Claydene Moseley; sons, Charles Moseley, David Moseley; a sister, Orene Waters; grandchildren, Jon Moseley, Jerrad Moseley, Jake Moseley, and Zac Moseley; and 5 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services for Mr. Moseley will be held at 3:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Sunday, December 13, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Teague and Rev. James Maples officiating. Interment will follow in the Moseley Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Friendship Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class.

MRS. BETTY H. SMITH, age 84, of Lyerly, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, /December 9, 2015, evening at her residence.  She was born in Lyerly, Georgia, to the late Edwin Lumpkin and Lela Addie Holt Harrison, on February 23, 1931. Betty was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Churchretired Clerk (keypunch) from Mt. Vernon-Riegel Textile.  Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by brothers, Henry Harrison and Herman Harrison.

Surviving are her husband, Leonard Smith of Lyerly; a sister, Eva Massey of Menlo; a sister in law, Elsie Toles of Knoxville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Barbara Reece, Linda Guthrie, Debbie Rich, Barbara Daniel, Kelly Floyd, Vanessa Massey, Leighanne Floyd, Gracie Floyd, Sophia Floyd, Jerri Massey, Zaidee Moore, Eddie Massey, Gregory Harrison, Bruce Daniel, Lee Massey, C.E. Massey, Noah Floyd, Jesse Floyd, Sammy Moore, Jeff Floyd; special cousins, David Gardner, Tina Patterson, Kristi and David Holt.

 Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 13th, at 2:00 P.M. from Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Gillespie and Rev. Mr. Jackie Leon Hamilton, age 75, of Menlo, GA, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at his residence.
 
Mr. Hamilton was born May 3, 1940, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late Horace and Foy Cavin Hamilton.  Prior to his retirement, he worked as a self-employed brick mason.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hamilton; and a sister, Bobbie Hamilton.
 
Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife, Glenda Hamilton; sons and daughter-in-law, Randy Hamilton, Kelly and Gini Hamilton; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dan Allen; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Purcell and Paul Purcell; grandchildren, Ryan Hamilton, Chase Hamilton, and Macee Hamilton.

Miss Edith Louise McCollum Obit (M)

Miss Edith Louise McCollum, age 87, of Gore, GA, passed away Saturday December 5, 2015, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Miss McCollum was born August 6, 1928, in Gore, GA, in the home where she lived until the time of her passing. She was the daughter of Carl Mason and Maude Menta McClain McCollum.  She loved her neighbors and her church and felt the valley was the prettiest in the world. She attended Berry College until she became sick with tuberculosis and was unable to finish.  She attended Carol Ann School of Business, and worked for the telephone company, was a secretary for Malcolm Thomas Insurance Agency, news reporter for WGTA radio, worked with the telethon to raise money for the mentally retarded children of Chattooga County,  she got her real estate license and sold real estate  for many years.  Louise wrote articles for the Summerville News and the Rome News Tribune and she was a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship and played the piano and organ at church.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elma Johnston and Thelma Brooks, and a niece, Marilyn Marks.

 

Survivors include nieces, Sue Ellen Houston and Diane Louise Hachey; nephew,

Steven Clark Brooks; great nieces and great nephews, Jennifer Mangan, Carlton Houston, Susan Geurin, Heather Brooks, Matthew Hachey, Steven Hachey, Amanda Hachey, Jon Marks, and Sarah Marks.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Mason

MRS. BETTY BANDY POPE, age 76, of Shinbone Valley Road, Menlo,  Georgia passed away Monday, December 7, 2015, evening in a Rome hospital.  A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late Leonard and Lois Dover Green on October 30, 1939.  Mrs. Bandy attended the Berryton Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her first husband the late John C. Bandy, a son the late John Duel Bandy, daughter, the late Betty Diane Leonard, sister, the late Nancy Crider, and brothers, the late Larry, Ray, Richard, and Jerry Green.

        Surviving are Her husband, Wayne Pope; sisters, Charlotte Woody of Berryton and Sadie Croy of Lyerly; grandchildren, Michael Leonard, Connie Geimer, and Luke Bandy; son-in-law, Jimmy Leonard; several Nieces and Nephews; special friends, Becky Payne and Juanita Battles also survive.
