Mrs. Ann Currant Incomplete Obit (ER)

MRS. ANN CURRENT, age 88, of Cottonwood Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015, morning in a Rome hospital. Born in Berryton, Georgia on May 16, 1927, She was a daughter of the late Arthur P. and Martha Chapman Rich. Mrs. Current attended the Living Waters Ministeries, and was retired textile creeler.

Surviving are husband, Tony Eugene Current; son, Billy Ray Hunter of Summerville; brothers, J. T. Rich of Summerville and David Rich of Trenton; seven Grandchildren, seven Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mr. Joe Frank Teague Obit (M)

Mr. Joe Frank Teague, age 53, of Trion, GA, died Monday, June 29, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Teague was born December 29, 1961, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Lonnie King Teague and Ellen Irene Jones Teague.  He was employed with Mount Vernon Mills where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  He was also a member of the Chattooga Lodge # 704, F&AM as well as the Chattooga Shrine Club.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Agans; a sister, Ellen Mae Teague; brothers, William Lonnie Teague and David Ray Teague.

Mr. Teague is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert Hugh and Margie Teague; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Eddie Beaver; nieces and nephews, Ken Teague, Michael Teague, Kim Teague, Savanna Collins, Hope Collins, Casey Beaver, and Justin Tapp.

Memorial services for Mr. Teague will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 2, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Craig and Rev. Tom Russell officiating.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Thursday.

Raymond “Max” Maxwell Swinford, age 66, of Rome, GA, a former resident of Oakview Nursing  & Rehab of Summerville, passed away Monday June 29, 2015, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Swinford was born December 31, 1948, in Rome, GA, the son of the late Herbert & Frances Pittard Swinford.  He was retired from Beckhard Steel and was a member and deacon of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include his wife, Diane Stanley Swinford, step-children, Randy & Lorretta Brock, Wes and Jeannine Brock, step-grandchildren, Gavin & Emma Brock, Jessica & Gary Dowdy, step-great-grandchild, Shelby Dowdy, sister, Theresa Murray, brother, Greg Swinford.
 
Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Wednesday July 1, 2015 from Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Hampton officiating with entombment in the Oaknoll Mausoleum.  Active pallbearers will be Josh Swinford, Drew Murray, Brent Murray, Wes Brock, Gavin Brock, Randy Brock, Jonathan Swinford, and Shawn Parham.  Honorary pallbearer will be David Young.
 
Mr. Swinford will be in state at the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 1, 2015 until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Patricia Elaine Parris, age 66, of Trion, GA, died Friday, June 26, 2015, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Parris was born March 20, 1949, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late John H. "Curly" and Marijo Turner Bowers.  She was a homemaker.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Ray Parris; a brother, Johnny Bowers; and a granddaughter, Jaysi Parris.

Mrs. Parris is survived by her sons, David Ray Parris and Jason Allen Parris; daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Sammy Trammell, Allison and Billy Tapp; a brother, Jeff Bowers; a sister, Lola Bedford; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Parris will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 28, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Nathan Dunn, Ladon Trammell, Zach Parris, Danny Bain, Josh Bain, and Will Lamb.

Mrs. Willa D. Gilreath Obit (ER)

MRS. WILLA D. GILREATH, age 93, of Tarrytown, Georgia, formerly of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday morning in a Vidalia, Georgia health care. She was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, to the late Moses Lathan and Addie Pruitt Locklear on January 22, 1922. Mrs. Gilreath was preceded in death by husband, the late John B. Gilreath, Sr. on December 2, 2006.

Surviving are sons and spouses, John, Jr. and Cindi Gilreath of Tarrytown and Kenneth and Jennifier Gilreath of Summerville; brother, Arnold Locklear of Dalton; grandchildren, Jeremy & Angel Gilreath, Jody & Haley Gilreath, Jenni Ely, Holly & Greg Gipson, Dustin & Devin Gilreath; great grandchildren, Rose Marie Gipson, Charlee Ely, Robin Gipson, Hadlea & Paisley Gilreath also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27th, at 4:00 P.M. from Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Warren Moorehead officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lester Mallicoat Edwards Obit (M)

Mr. Lester Mallicoat Edwards, age 86, of Lyerly, GA, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Edwards was born May 15, 1929, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Charles Daniel and Ethyl DeBerry Edwards.  He was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.  He was also a member of the Victory Lodge # 649 F&AM and was a 32nd degree Mason.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Jarrett Trucking.  In addition to  his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Pleas Edwards and Albert Edwards; and sisters, Saddie Corneilson and Nellie Black.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Carmen Grace Conley Edwards; sons and daughter-in-law, Donald Lester Edwards, Tom and Patty Edwards; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Ann Edwards, Brenda Gail and Don Rayner, and Sandra Lee and Bobby Jones; brothers, Joe Edwards and Bobby Edwards; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nellie Emma Owens Black, age 80, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Black was born March 27, 1935, in Lyerly, GA, daughter of the late Charles Daniel and Ethyl DeBerry Edwards.  She was a homemaker and a member of the New Prospect Church # 1.  She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and gardening.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Ray Owens.

Mrs. Black is survived by her husband, William C. Black; sons, Dannie Ray Owens and Tony C. Owens; brothers, Lester Edwards, Bobby Edwards, and Joe Edwards; grandchildren, Christy Owens, Brandon Owens, Shawna Whalen, Brianna Owens, and Krista Owens; great-grandchildren, Thomas Cribbs, Joshua Hixon, Madaline Hixon, Christian Whalen, and Embrey Whalen.

Mr. David Jones Obit (ER)

MR. DAVID JONES, age 66, of John Jones Road, Gore Community, Summerville, Georgia, 
passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015, in a Rome hospital. A native of 
Chattooga County, He was born to the late John S. and Montine Shackelford Jones, 
on November 11, 1948. 
 
Mr. Jones was a lifetime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, was a Education 
Administrator, having served as principle of the Summerville Middle School and 
Chattooga County High School. 
 
He was a passionate outdoorsman and advocate for working with the Homeless Shelter and 
Food Bank.
 
Surviving are wife Shelli Payne Jones, brother Sam Orr Jones, both of Gore Community, 
and fourteen God Children.   
 
A Private service will be held at a later date.  
 
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Homeless Shelter and/or 
Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery Fund.

Mrs. Elizabeth Josephene Morgan Odum Obit (C)

 Mrs. Elizabeth Josephene Morgan Odum, age 77 of Trion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at her residence.

Mrs. Odum was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on January 17, 1938, daughter of the late Lindsey Raymond Morgan and Dora Lucille Yarbrough.  She was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ and prior to retirement, was employed in the Spinning Room of Mt. Vernon Mills.  Mrs. Odum was preceded in death by her husband, Jim A. Odum, Sr. in 1983, a son, Tracy L. Odum in 2009; brothers, Ralph Morgan, Raymond Morgan, Robert Morgan, Curt Morgan, and Kenneth Morgan and sisters, Margaret Cuertion and Wanda Wood

Mrs. Odum is survived by her children, Jim A. Odum, Jr., Thomas “Tommy” H. Odum and Elaine Odum Barkley; sisters, Linda Morgan Smith, Barbara Morgan Webb and PeggyMorgan Chandler; special friend, Charles Rowlls; several grandchildren; one great grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Morgan will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Biddle and Rev. Malcolm Harris officiating.  Interment will follow in the Lafayette Cemetery.

Mr.Raymond Melton Norris (M)

Mr. Raymond Melton Norris, age 69, of Centre, AL, died Monday, June 22, 2015, at the Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, AL.

 

Mr. Norris was born May 7, 1946, in Trion, GA, son of the late Eugene Jackson and Mary Melena Hawkins Norris.  He was retired from the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War.

 

Mr. Norris is survived by his aunt, Barbara L. Norris; uncle, Bill Hawkins; cousins, Jerry and April Pellegrini, Cory Morris, Cassie Scarborough, and Barbie Morris.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Norris will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Thursday, June 25, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery with full military honors.
