Mrs. Barbara Jean Elsberry, age 81, of Summerville, Georgia passed away
Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Elsberry was born
in Chattooga County, Georgia on February 25, 1933, daughter of the late
Charlie Teague and Dellie Busby Teague. She was of the Baptist Faith and
prior to her retirement in 1995, was employed with the Karastan Bigelow
Carpet Mill. Mrs. Elsberry was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years,
Ed Elsberry, on May 3, 2012; an infant son, Edwin Brinton Elsberry; an infant
daughter, Jennie Gale Elsberry; and her brothers, Donald Teague, Hoyt
Teague and Johnny Teague.
Mrs. Elsberry is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Cindi Elsberry;
grandchildren, Trent Elsberry, Bradyn Elsberry, and Kasen Elsberry; brother and
sister-in-law, Eddie Ray and Geneva Teague; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley
and Rayburn Hughes and Linda and Gerald Carroll; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Bill Elsberry, Sarah and Harold Duke, Naomi and Bill Ramsey, Patsy
Elsberry, Pat Elsberry, Billie Faye Elsberry, and Barbara Teague Gorham; extended
family, Bill and Joanna Gilbert and Steven, Melanie and Claire Gilbert; and a
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Elsberry will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2:00 P.M,
in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey officiating
and Mr. Bill Gilbert delivering the Eulogy. Interment will be in the Summerville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Steven Gilbert, Tony Dowdy, Jeff Ramsey, Lanny Thomas,
and Trent Elsberry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nieces and Nephews.
Mrs. Elsberry will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive
friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 P.M. until the funeral hour. At other hours the

MR. TOM LEWIS JOHNSTON, age 88, of Gore-Subligna Road, Summerville
Georgia passed away Friday, August 15, 2015, at the residence.
Born in Summerville on April 12, 1926, He was a son of the late T.P. and
Zula Mae Ballenger Johnston. Mr. Johnston graduated from Subligna High
School and attended West Georgia College for two years, then was drafted
into the U.S. Army, during WW II. He served in Germany and Austria with
the 36th Infantry Division and was an observer at the War Crimes Trials
in Nuremburg, Germany; was a life member of the V.F.W. He was a cattle
farmer and worked for the Georgia Department of Agriculture retiring after
28 years service. He was preceded in death by a sister Libby Neal Rich.
Surviving are His wife, Nancy Mann Johnston; daughter, Sandi Johnston
Cohen; son-Tom Neal Johnston (Lyn); step daughter, Tanya Queen
(Ruben); step son, Stacy Mann (Tina); grand kids, Chuck Cohen and
Samson Johnston; step grand kids, Amber Padgett, Lexie Mann, Macey
Mann, Addie Queen, Mason Mann; niece, Joan Butler.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 17th at 3:00 PM from the J. D. Hill Memorial
Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Jody Brock and Larry Scoggins officiating,
interment in Green Hills Memory Gardens.

MRS. HARRIETT MITCHELL CARROLL, age 89, of Summerville, Georgia passed
away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, afternoon in the local Nursing Home. A
lifetime resident of Chattooga County, She was a daughter of the late Alfred
Anderson “Shorty” and Arrie Dendy Cash. Mrs. Carroll was a member of South
Commerce Church of Christ, retired from the winding department of Summerville
Cotton Mill, and was preceded in death by husband, the late J. W. Mitchell, a
daughter, Sandra Henderson, great granddaughter, Jamie DeLee, sister, Betty
Faye McGinnis, and brother, Jack Cash, all died earlier.
Surviving are daughters and spouses-Judy and Larry Allmon and Becky and
Steve Osby all of Summerville; grandchildren-Julie Keen, Amanda Rectenwald,
and Bejay Osby; great grandchildren-Jennifer Burrage, Drake Keen, Ethan and
Lucas Rectenwald; great great grandchildren-Kayleigh Burrage, Coal Hennon,
Payton Keen, and Cassie Burrage; brother-Sewell Cash of Summerville; several
Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill
Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Minister Tommy Broome
and Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery, active
pallbearers-Jacob McGinnis, Pres Cash, Jackie Cash, Andy Cash, John Blackwell, and Jabo McGinnis
honorary pallbearers-Tommy McGraw, Donnie Baker, , Ruth Warren,

MR. JOE J. HAMMOND, age 94, of Powder Springs, Georgia formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed day Thursday, August 7, 2014, in Powder Springs. Mr. Hammond was born in Chattooga County on October 25, 1919, a son of the late Joseph Fletcher and Agnes Jones Hammond. He was a watch repairman for 31 years, afterward worked as a watchman for a textile plant, for 15 years, until retirement. Mr. Hammond was a member of the First Presbyterian Church PCA, in Summerville.
Surviving are Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 10th, from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Greg King officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. The Family will receive friends, Sunday, from 2:00 P.M. until the service hour, at the Funeral Home.
