Mr. Eugene Franklin “Gene” Todd, Obit. (M)

Mr. Eugene Franklin “Gene” Todd, age 82, of Gaylesville, AL, died Sunday, March 8, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Todd was born April 21, 1943, in Jamestown, AL, son of the late Milton and Ethel McCullough Todd.  He was a member and Deacon of Faith Baptist Church of Gaylesville, and prior to his retirement, was self-employed in the logging industry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Hartline Todd; brother, Johnny (Charlotte) Todd; sisters, Louise (Charles) Bynum, and Azie (John) Crane.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Todd; daughters, Beth (Jeremy) Fletcher, Stephanie (Bobby) Kuykendall; a sister, Karen (Lee) Warren; grandchildren, Parker Fletcher, Aydn Heinrich, Devyn (Eric) West, Madison Dobbs; and great-grandchildren, Isla West and Kiplin West.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. (GA Time) Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Clay Moreland officiating.  Interment will follow in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Lee Warren, Austyn Todd, Dewayne Bynum, Buster Bynum, Kenny Wilbanks, and Richard McCullough.

Mr. Todd will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. (GA Time) on Tuesday.  He will also lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 P.M. until the hour of service.

Mr. James Larry Norton, Obit. (M)

Mr. James Larry Norton, age 69, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Norton was born November 5, 1956, in Summerville, GA, son of the late James Calvin Norton, Sr. and Lora Frances Tucker Norton.  He was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with AT&T  Mr. Norton was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was retired from the National Guard where he served as a Senior Master Sergeant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Diane Norton.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Wade Norton; son, James Eric Norton (Ashley Lynn); sisters, Joan Sheryl (Dale) Willingham, Linda (Emory) Tallent, and Karen (David) Fletcher; grandchildren, Lyndee Norton and Asher Norton.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be David Fletcher, Jr., Brian Hammitt, Robbie Kelley, Casey Hunter, Michael Parker, and Stephen Parker.
Mr. Norton will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Maggie Jo Tucker, Obit. (C)

Mrs. Maggie Jo Tucker, age 93 of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Tucker was born in Trion, Georgia on April 4, 1932, daughter of the late Ralph McKinley Watkins and Jewel Maggie Pack Watkins.  She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, attended Dry Valley Baptist Church and had worked in the Spinning Department of Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Tucker was an avid animal lover, enjoyed working with flowers and thought Steve Harvey was absolutely hilarious.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Tucker;  two sisters, Betty Williams and Faye Williams; and two brothers, Edward “Buddy” Watkins and Franklin “Frankie” Watkins.

Mrs. Tucker is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Max Lamar and Myra Tucker; daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Tucker and Lynn and Mike Dawson; sisters, Joyce Grogan and Shirley Ratliff; brothers, Cecil Watkins, David Watkins, Ray Watkins, Paul Watkins and Sherman Watkins; grandchildren, Corey(Carrie) Bramlett, Melanie(Shannon Murphy) Duke, Dewayne Dawson, John(Sarah) Dawson, Jennifer Dawson and Ryan(Hawk) Martin; 10 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and  nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Tucker will be held Monday, March 9, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Casey Bramlett officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Randall Watkins, Hank Martin, John Dawson, Dewayne Dawson, Shannon Murphy and John James Dawson.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

MR. KERRIN RICARDO PRICE- Age 58, Of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026. Mr. Price was born on September 22, 1967 to his late parents, Howard “Joe” Price and Joyce Lee Sturdivant Price. He was employed at Mohawk Carpets and he attended Chattooga County School.

 

Survivors are his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Wooten Price; three children, LaTonya Wooten, Tony Wooten, and Ricardo (Raven) Price; brother, Pierre Price; two aunts, June Carol S. Johnson and Pamela S. Madden; uncle, John Hall; a host of other loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

 

Homegoing Service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 2:00 P. M. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 281 Georgia Avenue, Summerville, Georgia 30747 with Pastor Kevin Roach as Eulogist and other Ministers officiating. Joyce Lee Sturdivant Price, Obit. (W)

MOTHER JOYCE LEE STURDIVANT PRICE – Age 86, of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Joyce was born on July 10, 1939 to her late parents, Richard Sturdivant and Ama Lee Cook Sturdivant. She was the third out of six children. She was a 1957 graduate of Summerville Public School and was a lifetime member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Joyce retired from Fortune Mills. Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Joe” Price, son, Kerrin Ricardo Price, sisters, Frankie Reese, Maxine Benson, and Geraldine Hall, and niece, Marjorie Buckley.

 

Precious memories will be cherished by her loving daughter-in-law, Shirley Wooten Price; grandchildren, LaTonya Wooten, Tony Wooten, Ricardo (Raven) Price; son, Pierre Price; sisters, June Carol S. Mr. Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Miller, Obit. (C)

Mr. Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Miller, age 70 of Chickamauga passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at his residence.

Tommy was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 31, 1955, son of the late Ernest “Jimmy” Miller, Sr. and Bernice Ally Edmondson Miller.  He was a member of the Revival Baptist Church and was retired from Bankston Tire and Oil.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by a son, Tommy “Shane” Miller, Jr.; sisters, Bernice Miller, Bertha Miller and Betty Ward; and brothers, Clarence Miller and Ernest “Bo” Miller, Jr.

Tommy is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Erica Miller; daughters and sons-in-law, Shellie and Trey Dixon and Natasha and Ricky Dover; sisters and brother-in-law, Joy and Wesley Akins, Judy Burrows and Lila Knight; grandchildren, Lexie Dover-Gann and her husband, Noah, Bentley Dover, Connor Dixon and Cooper Miller; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Services for Tommy will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Boyd officiating.  Interment will follow in the Moseley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Chad Miller, Ricky Dover, Bentley Dover, Trey Dixon, and Sean Miller.  Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Lexie Dover-Gann, Bentley Dover, Connor Dixon, Cooper Miller and Brother-in-law, Wesley Akins.

Mr. Alexander Leroy “Al” James, Jr., Obit (M)

Mr. Alexander Leroy “Al” James, Jr., age 69, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. James was born February 26, 1957, in Trion, GA, son of the late Alexander Leroy James, Sr. and Linnie Lipham James.  He was of the Baptist faith and was a devoted husband, father, and pawpaw.  Mr. James was also a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served from 1976 – 1980.  Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the maintenance department of Mount Vernon Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Becky James and Mary Ann Henderson; a brother, Randy James; and a granddaughter, Arabella Poster.

Survivors include his wife, Tina James; daughters, Ashley (Michael) Poster, Alexandria (Kendall) Turnbull; sisters, Alexa (Curtis) Stoner, Kim Piper; grandchildren, Benjamin, Zoe, and Lillian “Varmit”; sisters-in-law, Mona Beal, Patti Karr; special niece, Brittany Watson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dog, General.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, March 5, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Kendall Turnbull officiating.

Mr. James will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday.

Thomas Austin Cole, Obit (M)

Mr. Thomas Austin Cole, age 79, of Menlo, GA, died Friday, February 27, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Cole was born July 29, 1946, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Thomas Edison Cole and Lela Alberta McConnell Cole. He was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with World Carpet. He had also worked several years at Best Manufacturing. Mr. Cole was a dedicated wrestling fan and a coon hunting champion. His greatest love was for his family and he was saved by God’s grace!

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Womack Cole; daughter, Lela Renae (Carl) Maynard; grandchildren, John (Elana) Brown, Tommy Meadows, and Isaiah Maynard; great-grandchildren, Lela Maynard, Lauren Brown, and Elijah Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Helton and Rev. Brian Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Rodney Womack, Hunter Williams, Johnny Hartline, Bear Brown, Jeremy Croy, and Dan Bullard. Honorary pallbearers will be Ginger Marshall, the members of Liberty Baptist Church, his Cedartown family, and his beloved Chihuahua, Daisy.

Mr. Cole will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Oravel Lee Shellman, Obit (C)

Mr. Oravel Lee Shellman, age 86 of Summervile, Georgia, formerly of Houma, Louisiana passed away Friday, February 27, 2026 at his residence.

Mr. Shellman was born in Allegany, New York on March 12, 1939, son of the late George Edward Shellman and Mildred Arlene Jackman Shellman. He was retired from Cavins Corporation, where he worked in the oil field as a dispatcher and sales and service representative. Mr. Shellman was an active member of the Chattooga Senior Center and was a member of two AA groups, one here and one in Rome.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shellman was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lee Shellman; brothers, Wiliam Shellman, Robert “Bob” Francis Shellman and Ralph Shellman; and sisters, Shirley Jean Holloway and Linda Kay Brady.

Mr. Shellman is survived by a sister, Alice Kight; brother-in-law, Levon Brady; nieces, Charlene Turnmire and Addie Holloway; nephew, John Brady; and a number of additional nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Services for Mr. Shellman will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 11:00 A.M, in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jake Darden officiating. Private Interment will be in Houma, Louisiana.

MR JAMES MONROE PIERCE, age 61, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026 at a Rome hospital. He was born on March 9th, 1964 in Fort Payne, Alabama, a son of the late Elmer and Margie Eller Pierce. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by a son in-law Mr. Josh Hines and a Grandson Mr. Christopher Chapman. He was a retired small engine repairman.

Surviving include his wife Mrs. Alisha Pierce, daughters, Deanna Hines and Cheyenne Nichols (Ryan Pierce), sons Christopher (Veronica) Pierce, Daniel (Crystal) Pierce, and Jonathon Nichols. Grandchildren Alexis Sluder, Jordyn Sluder (Brycen Hunt), Trinity Sluder (Chance Canada), Daye Nutter, Chloe Pierce, Aubrey Pierce, Ashton Pierce, Adian Pierce, Jameson Pierce, and Thomas Davis and three Great Grandchildren, Tyson, Vada and River, Brothers Stephenson Pierce and Dewayne Pierce and sisters Carolyn (Noel) Johnson and Debbie (Frankie) Majors. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Pierce will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 2PM from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Nixon officiating and interment in the Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Nellenboch, Jeremy Spears, Ryan Pierce, Carson Keen, Steve Fowler, and Chance Canada. The Family will receive friends Saturday starting at 1PM until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
