Mr. Riley Samuel Lee Obit., (M)

Mr. Riley Samuel Lee, age 65, of Menlo, GA, passed away November 14, 2013 at the Floyd Medical Center.
 
Mr. Lee was born in Jesup, GA, on April 24, 1948, son of the late William Riley Lee and Josephine Crosby Lee Rismiller.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam, and was also a recipient of the Purple Heart. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Lee and a sister Julie Mitch.
 
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Bridges Lee; children, Jason Lee, Shaun Lee, Jamie Lee, Aaron Lee, Shelly Lee Kemp; sister, Connie Smith; 21 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
 
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the residence on Sunday, November 17, 2013, from  2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Mrs.BarbaraRich Allmon Obit., (M)

Mrs. Barbara Rich Allmon, age 77, of Menlo, GA, died Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Cherokee County Health and Rehabilitation Center, Centre, AL.
 
Mrs. Allmon was born February 26, 1936 in Menlo, GA, daughter of the late Enoch Orin and Minnie Mae Fricks Ward.  She was of the Baptist faith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lebronne Ward.
 
Mrs. Allmon is survived by her daughters, Debbie Mitchell, Teresa Lee, Donna Tucker, Peggy Dotson, Linda Quillen, Nancy Edgeman, and Janice Gwin; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Allmon will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 18, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Wright officiating.  Burial will follow in the Garrett Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Junior Tucker, Gary Dotson, Steve Lee, Billy Quillen, Kenny Edgeman, and William Burkhead.  Charles Mitchell, Jr. will serve as an Honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Carlton Maxwell Lewis Obit., (M)

Mr. Carlton Maxwell Lewis, age 56, of Summerville, GA, died November 13, 2013, at his residence.
 
Mr. Lewis was born July 31, 1957, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Claude and Minnie Fowler Lewis.  He had formerly worked at Harriet and Henderson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Joy Miller and Christine Carr; and a granddaughter, Chelsea Lewis.
 
Mr. Lewis is survived by his son, Ray Lewis; daughters and son-in-law, Kristy and Greg Greene, Patricia Lewis; a brother, Bill Youngblood; grandchildren, Courtney Lewis, Destiny Lewis, Tiffany Lewis, Auburn Lewis, Logan Greene, C. J. Greene, Breanna Ezell, Shelby Ezell, and Brennon Ezell; and a great-grandchild, Austyne Lewis.
 
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 17, 2013, from the Chapel Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Logan Greene, Richard Bailey, John Burrage, and Chuck Noles.  Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.
 
Mr. Lewis will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M. Sunday.

Mrs. Billie Florence Buchanon, Obit. (C)

Mrs. Billie Florence Buchanon, age 72, of Summerville, passed away Thursday,
November 14, 2013 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mrs. Buchanon was born in Rome, Ga on April 16, 1941, daughter of the late
Lee Hughes and Argie Spraggins Wiseman. Prior to retirement, she was with
Best Manufacturing as an inspector. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Buchanon
was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel "Buck" Buchanon, and two
brothers, James Hughes and Bobby Hughes. 
 
Mrs. Buchanon is survived by her children, Clifford Dickerson, and Raymond
Dickerson of Summerville, Rebecca and Dwayne Eisert and Billie and Tim
Beaver of Neward, Ohio, Melissa Gilliard of Summerville and Marie and Eddie
Emerson of Lyerly; sister and brother-in-law, Ernistine and Bobby Wilson of
Newark, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a number of
nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Buchanon will be held Sunday, November 17,
2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with
Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery.
 
The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbeares and are asked
to meet at the Coffman Funeral Home Sunday at 1:30 p.m.: Doug Dickerson,
Raymond Dickerson, Eddie Edgeworth, Shawn Wiseman, Jason Green and
Terry Green.

Mr. Thomas William Snow, Obit. (M)

Mr. Thomas William Snow, Jr., age 66, of Chickamauga, GA, formerly of Trion, GA, passed away November 14, 2013 quietly at his home after a brief illness.
 
Mr. Snow was born in Trion, GA, on November 15, 1946, son of the late Thomas William Snow, Sr. and Nona Laura Ray Snow.  He was a 1965 graduate of Trion High School.  Mr. Snow was retired from Commercial Metals in Chattanooga, TN, as a division manager.  He was a veteran and served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
 
Survivors include his fiancé, Diane Allen of Chickamauga, GA; former wife, Lynn Ivie Snow of Pensacola, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ashley and Becky Snow of Columbus, GA, and Clayton and Hailey Snow of Pensacola, FL; one sister, Peggy Williams of Gaylesville, AL; and four brothers, Kent Snow of Brenham, TX, James Snow of Trion, GA, David Snow of Summerville, GA, and Robin Snow of Pensacola, FL; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
 
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 17, 2013, at the Trion United Methodist Church with Rev. David Autry officiating.  The family will receive friends at the Trion United Methodist Church from 1:30 P.M. until the service hour on Sunday.

Mr. Dorety Louis Westbrrooks Obit (M)

Mr. Dorety Louis Westbrooks, 76, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, November 12, 2013

at Hospice of Chattanooga.

Mr. Westbrooks was born March 24, 1937 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Samuel

Robert Westbrooks and Lois Golden Westbrooks.  He had worked at Mt. Vernon

Mills and Wometco Vending.  He was later self employed as an auto body mechanic.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Westbrooks was a member of the Odd Fellows

Unity Lodge#3, the American Legion Post 130; and the VFW Post 6688.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Freddie Westbrooks

and Doug Westbrooks; sister, Martha Sue Hensley, and a grandson, Dartey Ford.

 

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Butch Cordle, and

Beverly and Olin Ford; brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Ruthie Westbrooks;

grandchildren, Brandi & Todd Buchanan, Butch, JR and Deedee Cordle, Dustin

Starkey, Dylan and Rachael Ford; and 8 Great Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Mason

Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Shores and Bro. Jim Westbrooks officiating.

Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites to be conducted by the American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be members of

the VFW and the American Legion.  Honorary pallbearers will be Nieces, Nephews,

members of Odd Fellow Unity Lodge #3, and Lebron McWhorter.

 

Mr. Westbrooks will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013.  The family

Mrs. Clara R. Bohanon Obit (ER)

MRS. CLARA BOHANON, age 98, of Bittings Avenue, Summerville, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013, evening in the local nursing home. She was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on April 25, 1915, a daughter of the late Hugh R. and Ella Maude Anderson Riley. She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church and the Ladies Bible Class of the Church; was retired from the weaving department of the former Summerville Cotton Mill. Mrs. Bohanon was preceded in death by her husband, the late Gordon Lee Bohanon, to whom she was married on February 17, 1936.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law-Hugh and Mary Bohanon of Trion; grandsons-Tommy and Nida Bohanon of Katie, Texas and Waymon and Salley Bohanon of Summerville; sister-Sara John Durham of Trion; three Great Grandchildren, two Great Great Grandchildren, several Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 12th, at 3:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery, with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. The Family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Peggy Ruth Elsberry Obit (M)

Mrs. Peggy Ruth Elsberry, age 72, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Elsberry was born September 4, 1941 in Chickamauga, GA, the daughter of the late James Kyler Lively and Margie Lee Purcell Lively. She was retired from Bigelow Sanford Carpet Factory. Mrs. Elsberry was a member of Berryton Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher. She had also previously served as a Sunday School and Bible Study Teacher at West Summerville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Elsberry was preceded in death by her sisters, Edna Lee Lively, Annie Jo Courtney; brothers, Lewis Lively and Robert Clinton Lively; and a son-in-law, Delton Dixson.

Mrs. Elsberry is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Franklin Elsberry; daughter, Sharon Lynn Dixson; grandchildren, Jason Dixson, Kayla Dixson, and Alyse Edgeworth; great-grandchildren, Landon Dixson, Sammy Edgeworth, Ava Dixson, Maralynn Dixson, and Jayla Fletcher.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsberry will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 9, 2013, from the Berryton Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Skates, Rev. Tommy Seay, and Rev. Malcom Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Keith Courtney, Jason Dixson, Michael Duke, Wayne McArthur, Bobby Groce, and Jeff Ramsey.

Mrs. Gwendola Johnson Obit (M)

Mrs. Gwendola Johnson, age 92, of Trion, GA, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at her residence.

 

Mrs. Johnson was born March 29, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph Wesley and Beulah Velma Smith White.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Lyerly United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cooper Johnson, and brothers, Gladston White and J. B. White.

 

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Rayburn and JoAnn Mitchell, Ron and Teri Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Phillip Smith; grandchildren, Fran and Daryl Buchanan; great-grandchildren, Gerren Buchanan, Sage Buchanan, Jordan and Crystle Buchanan; great-great-grandchildren, Shane Buchanan and Jacob Buchanan.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating.  Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery

on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:30 AM.

Mrs. Rosemary McWhorter James Obit (ER)

MRS. ROSEMARY McWHORTER JAMES, age 89, of Virginia Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning in a local health care. Affectionately known as “Miss RoseMary”, she was born in Henrietta, N.C. to the late Grady and Lola Belle Bridges Morehead on November 9, 1923. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. and taught school in Trion Elementary and Summerville Elementary Schools, and owned and operated Her own kindergarten for a number of years. Mrs. James was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a board member of Chattooga Library; she was a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship. Mrs. James was preceded in death by her first husband, the late Joseph Winston McWhorter and latter, husband the late Willis Samuel James, brothers-the late Jim Morehead, Joe Morehead, and Bill Morehead.

Surviving are sons-Joseph Winston (Wink) McWhorter, Jr. of Athens, Robert McWhorter of Summerville, and Hill (Jenny) McWhorter, Sr. of Hoover, AL.; brother-O. G. Morehead of Summerville; Six Grandchildren, Nine Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.
