Mrs. Maybel Kathrym Housch Stowe Obit (M)

Mrs. Mabel Kathryn Housch Stowe, age 84, of LaFayette, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 29, 2013. 

 

She was born on April 7, 1929 in Chattooga County, GA, daughter of the late Clifford C. and Annie Laura Woodard Housch.  She attended Dry Valley Baptist Church, Summerville, GA, where she had been a member since 1942.  Mrs. Stowe was a former pianist, a member of the Grace Sunday School Class, and an active member of the Young at Hearts.  She retired from Standard Coosa Thatcher in Rossville, GA, after 30 years of service.  Mrs. Stowe was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed.  “I have fought a good fight.  I have finished the race.  I have kept the faith.” II Tim. 4: 7  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Dean Stowe; two brothers, John Woodard Housch and Clifford Carlton Housch; and two sisters, Annie Margaret Groover and Dorothy Mattielyn Hearn.

 

Mrs. Stowe is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Laura Kathryn and Sammy Bowman of LaFayette, GA, Charlotte Ann and Sonny Elders of Trion, GA; one son and his wife, Kenneth Russell and Carol Stowe of LaFayette, GA; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 1, 2013, from the Dry Valley Baptist Church with ministers Jimmy Weaver and her grandson, Jeff Bowman, officiating with interment to follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers will be Drew York, Scotty Wood, Jamey Bowman, Jeff Bowman, Mike York, and Adam Hunt.  Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Dry Valley Baptist Church Grace Sunday School Class.

 

Mrs. Stowe will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home after 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.  She will also lie in state at the Dry Valley Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour on Thursday.

 

The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Nurse Tina and Ms. Judy, for their loving care of our mother.

Mrs. Ruby B. Salley Obit (ER)

MRS. RUBY B. SALLEY, age 99, of Nixon Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, in the local nursing home. A native of Walker County, Georgia, She was born to the late Lee and Lemmie Hood Baker on July 11, 1914. Mrs. Salley received her BS Degree from West Georgia College and Master Degree from Berry College; during and after Mrs. Salley taught school in the Chattooga School system for many years, She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota and the Horizon Baptist Fellowship. Mrs. Salley also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, the Chattooga Garden Club, was an Emeritus Judge of the National Garden Club, member of the Chattooga County Garden Club, and member of the Chattooga County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by husband, John Salley in 1992 and daughter, Mary Salley in 1998, sisters-Dorothy Beatrice Baker Cawthon in 2008 and Ellen Louise Baker in 1937. Memorial service will be held Friday, August 2nd, at 3:00 P.M. from the Horizon Baptist Fellowship with Dr. Jerry Mahan officiating. Mrs. Stowe was born April 7, 1929 in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Clifford and Annie Laura Woodard Housch.  She was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was employed by the Standard Coosa Thatcher Yarn Mill.

Miss Mary Gail Chastain Obit (M)

Miss Mary Gail Chastain, age 67, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, July 25,

2013 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

 

Miss Chastain was born April 15, 1946 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of

the late Virgil Eugene and Agnes Ider Waits Chastain.  She was a member of

the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center.  Other than her parents, she was

preceded in death by a sister, Ann Henderson; and a brother, Bobby Chastain.

 

Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty & Truman Mitchell, Linda & Frank Abernathy; brother and sister-in-law, Cody & Carolyn Chastain; several Nieces and Nephews; and several Great Nieces and Great Nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Summerville

Pentecostal Worship Center with Rev. Andy Hutchins and Rev. Kevin Woods

officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be

Charles Mitchell, Randy Mitchell, Dylan Lewis, Jerry Lewis, Mike Chastain,

Jeremy Mitchell, Tim Crowe, and Lamar Coleman.  Honorary pallbearers will be

her Church Family.

Mrs. Patsy Anne Thompson Obit (M)

Mrs. Patsy Ann Thompson, age 65, of Summerville, GA died Monday, July 22,

2013 at Kindred Care at Floyd Hospital.

 

Mrs. Thompson was born July 11, 1948 in Mentone, AL, the daughter of Willie

Faye Timms Millican, and the late Carlton Lee Millican.  She was an active member of North Summerville Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Belayers Sunday School Class, the Sisterhood, Ladies Bible Study Class, Optimist Club, and the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia.  Mrs. Thompson served for 26 years as church treasurer. She was employed with Guffin and Eleam Insurance as

an insurance agent and office manager for 39 years.  Other than her father, she

was preceded in death by a son, Joel Gregory Thompson.

 

Survivors include her husband, James G. “Jimmy” Thompson; mother, Faye

Helton; daughters and sons-in-law, Patti & Eddy Willingham, and Julie and Jeremy Croy; brothers and sister-in-law, Rickey Millican, and Lamar and Pam Millican; sister and brother-in-law, Robbin and Jimmy Brookshire; sister-in-law, Tammy Ingle; grandchildren, Adam and Jessi Willingham , Jesse Willingham, Sarah Willingham, Joshua Willingham, Kyle Davis, Mikinzie Davis, Lightnin Croy, and Rees Davis; 1 Niece; 9 Nephews; and special lifelong best friends, Jackie and Mary Humphrey.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Russell officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Mrs. Thompson will be escorted by her grandsons, Adam Willingham, Jesse Willingham, Lightnin Croy, Joshua Willingham, and Kyle Davis.  Active pallbearers will be Matt Odom, Nathan Odom, Chris Millican, Caleb Millican, Lenny Wilson, and Tim Wilson.  Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Belayers Sunday School Class, the Sisterhood, and the Ladies Bible Study of North Summerville Baptist Church, and Cindy Finister’s Ladies Class.

Mr. Joe Thomas Hall Obit (EP)

Mr. Joe Toe Thomas Hall, age 63 of Cedar Bluff, AL passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at his residence.  Mr Hall was born in Trion, GA on February 24, 1950.  He was employed with Quality Machine in LaFayette, GA and was Baptist by faith.
   Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Hall.
   Mr. Hall is survived by wife, Rita Cassels Hall of Cedar Bluff, AL; son, Adam Blake (Allison) Hall of Cedar Bluff, AL; mother, Margaret Sprayberry Hall of Cedar Bluff, AL; brother, Terry Wayne (Valerie) Hall of Anniston, AL; grandchildren, Logan Blake Hall and Blakelea Addison Hall; step-son, Thomas Blake Cassels and step-daughter, Bridgett Smith Amos of Cleburne  County, AL; step-grandchildren, Chloe Jenkins, Brenden Clayton, and Trizton Amos; several cousins.
   Memorial services for Mr. Joe Thomas Hall will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Hall with Rev. Tom Russell officiating.

Mr. Ralph Clayton Wilson Obit (ER)

 

MR. RALPH CLAYTON WILSON, age 54, of Highland Avenue, Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday (July 20, 2013) morning in a Rome hospital. Born in Walker County, Georgia on August 25, 1958, He was a son of the late Danny Clayton and Barbara Boyd Wilson. Mr. Wilson attended the Church of God and was formerly employed by Mohawk Industries, Lyerly Plant.

Surviving are His devoted wife of 25 years, Sandra Wilson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tina and Bryan Sitton; nieces-Beth Kellett and Shanda Pena; nephews-Jacob Sitton, and Dale Kellett; special friends-Amanda and Roger Sitton and Dean Cornett; several other family members also survive.

A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 24th, at 12 noon from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Mr. Tim Dover officiating. Honorary Pallbearers Roger Siffles, Dean Cronett, All Mohawk Security employees.

Mr. Alvin Earl “Bud” Smart

Mr. Alvin Earl “Bud” Smart, age 68, of Gaylesville, AL died Wednesday, July 17,

2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Smart was born February 22, 1945 in Jamestown, AL, the son of the late

Buford Smart and Myrtle Messer Smart.  He was a retired truck driver.  Mr. Smart

was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.  Other than his parents, he was

preceded in death by a brother, Rayford Smart; and sisters, Debbie Smart and Joyce Ellis.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Annette Reynolds; brother, Gary Smart; sisters and

brother-in-law, Angie Mitchell, Barbara and Dow Van Pelt, and Marilyn Gelgut;

grandchildren, Jacob Eric Reynolds and Leah Autum Reynolds; special friend,

Jackie Mobbs; and several nieces and nephews.

 

At his request Mr. Smart was cremated.

Mrs. Sybil Mershon

MRS. SYBIL MERSHON, age 82, of Orchard Hill Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (July 18, 2013) morning in the local nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late John Henry and Allie Jo Robinson Dooley on October 29, 1930. Mrs. Mershon was a homemaker, member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two sons the late Paulie Mershon and the late Roger Mershon.

 

Surviving are one sister-Jessie Penland of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19th, at 5:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Brown officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.
