Mr. Walter Finley Incomplete Obit (Wright)

Mr. Walter Finley, age 83, of 1956 Starling Mill Rd., Summerville, GA passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 in a local hospital. Funeral services are incomplete, but will be announced later. Wright Memorial Mortuary, Inc. has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Avanelle Harris Weaver Obit., (EP)

   Mrs. Avanelle Harris Weaver, age 86 of Armuchee, GA passed

away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Weaver was born December 27, 1926 in Trion, GA.  Mrs.

Weaver was retired from the Chattooga County Department of

Family and Childrens Services.  She was a member  of the New

Armuchee Baptist Church where she taught the Single Purpose

Sunday School Class and played piano for the Senior Adult Choir. 

She was also a Volunteer at Redmond Regional Medical Center for

25+ years.

   Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years,

George Weaver; and son, Randy Poole.
  

Mrs. Weaver is survived by son, Mike (Diane) Poole of Summerville,

GA; step-son, Kenneth (Brenda) Weaver of Douglasville, GA;

step-daughter, Marian ( Bill) Surles of Cumming, GA; and daughter-in-law,

Nancy Poole Thompson of Dayton, TN; grandchildren, Michael A. (Brandie)

Poole and Jordan Poole of Summerville, GA; Casey Poole of Dayton, TN;

Todd Aikman, Christie Surles (Jody) Mathews and David (Mindy) Surles, 

Karen Weaver (Chuck) Bloodworth, and Keith (Clarice) Weaver; 14 great-

grandchildren.
  

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the

New Armuchee Baptist Church with Dr. David Howard officiating. 

Interment will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

   Visitation for Mrs. Avanelle Harris  Weaver will be Tuesday, June 4, 2013

at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from

6 to 8 p.m.  Mrs. Weaver will also lie-in-state on Wednesday, June 5, 2013

at the New Armuchee Baptist Church from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Jennine Dyer Smith Obit., (EP)

Mrs. Jennine  Dyer Smith, age 74  of Trion-Teloga Road, Summerville,

GA passed away June 2, 2013 2013 at her residence.  Mrs. Smith was

born July 3, 1938 in Trion, GA.  She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills

and attended the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center.  Mrs. Smith

loved flowers, music, and traveling.  She was active in the Cancer

Support Group.

 

   Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Willis Smith

on December 30, 2012; father and mother, Louis Oscar and Addie Mae

Dyer; and a brother, Jerry Lemuel Dyer.

 

   Mrs. Smith is survived by son, Rev. Randall L. (Cindy) Smith of Twin

City, GA; daughter, Kathy D. Smith of Summerville, GA; brother, Steve

Dyer of Summerville, GA; and sisters, Marveline Cook of Lyerly, GA and

Lisa Chandler of Trion, GA; 2 grandchildren, Jason Smith of Statesboro,

GA and Ben Smith, USAF-United Kingdom, England; grandnieces, Dara

and Deana McRae and other nieces and nephews; and special friend,

Sheila Wilbanks.

 

   Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.

from the Summerville Pencostal Worship Center with Rev. Randall Smith

and Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill

Cemetery.

 

   Visitation for Mrs. Jennine Smith will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the

Mrs. Jeanette Hawkins Obit (ER)

MRS. JEANETTE HAWKINS, age 90, of Summerville, Pennville Community, passed away Friday morning in a LaFayette health care facility. She was born on October 19, 1922, a daughter of the late Shirley and Willie Mae Marshall Jones. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Pennville Baptist Church and was a retired Lab Tech from Riegel Textile Corp. Beside parents, She was preceded in death by a grandson-the late Jody Maddux and brother-the late G.M. “Buck” Jones.

Surviving are husband-Joseph V. “Shorty” Hawkins; daughter-Pam Maddux of LaFayette; son-Curtis Hawkins of Summerville; sister-Virginia Hayes of Dawsonville; sister-in-law- Faye Jones of Pensacola, FL.; grandchildren-Tracy Maddux, Kari Maddux Brown (Rusty), Ian Hawkins, and Erin Thomas (Eric). great grandchildren- Rayven Lawrence, Ryleigh Lawrence, Ransley Lawrence, and Amelia Thomas. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 3rd, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Johnson and Rev. Mike Hawkins officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Robert King, David Richardson, Jimmy Hayes, John Shankles, Robert Williams and Kenneth Blansit. Mrs. Edna Jean Pursley Obit., (M)

Mrs. Edna Jean Pursley, age 81, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Shepherd Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Pursley was born January 20, 1932 in Centre, AL, daughter of the late William McKinley and Ida Lee Wisner Gorham.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Belmont Baptist Church.  Mrs. Pursley was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Pursley.

Mrs. Pursley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Dennis Johnson; grandchildren, Matthew Johnson and Hannah Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Raine Harrison; a brother, Garvin Gorham; and sisters, Cathrine Hawkins, Estelle Johnson, and Linda Burkhalter.

Memorial services for Mrs. Pursley will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday, June 3, 2013 from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating.

MR. MIKE MITCHELL, age 72, of Center, Alabama, formerly of Chattooga County, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013. Born in Walker County, Georgia on October 1, 1940, Mr. Mitchell was a son of the late Walter Jennings and Lydia Sprayberry Mitchell. He was retired from the U.S. Postal service. Surviving are daughter and spouse-Melanie and Greg Johnson of Gadsden, AL.; son and spouse-David and Robin Mitchell of Summerville; former spouse-Lola Grimes Mitchell of Trion; grandchildren-Marlene Mitchell and Skylar Mitchell; sister and spouse-Kathy and Bill Morgan of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Terry Andrew Wilson Obit (M)

Mr. Terry Andrew Wilson, age 55, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Wednesday May 29, 2013 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Wilson was born Feb. 10, 1957, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Robert Grady and Betty Joe Brown Wilson. He was formerly employed with Mohawk as a hyster driver.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Robert Grady (Bubba) Wilson, daughter, Ashley Michelle Wilson, sisters, Judy Dewitte, Cathy McCarry, brothers, Wayne Wilson, Larry Wilson, granddaughter, Jaydah Shyann London.

Funeral Service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday June 1, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn and Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating with interment in the Spring Creek Cemetery. Mr. Troy Ladon “Donny” Pope Obit (M)Corrected

Mr. Troy LaDon “Donny” Pope, age 37, of Trion, GA died Monday, May 27,

2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Pope was born April 13, 1976 in Rome, GA, the son of Troy Wayne Pope

and Connie Cothran Pope.  He was a 1995 graduate of Chattooga High School.

He was formerly employed with Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of

Spring Creek Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Pope is survived by his mother, Connie Cothran Pope; father and step-mother,

Troy Wayne and Betty Pope; companion, Peter J. “P J” Wuilliez; granny, Annie Mae Pope;

grandmother, Stella Beard; aunts and uncles, Terry & Jean Pope, Jimmy Pope, Kay Clark,

and Tina Wilson; and special cousins, Christine and Tracy Shaw.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Mason Funeral

Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn and Rev. Chris Holman officiating.  Burial will follow

Ms. Lenora Jones Obit (M)

 

Miss Lenora Jones, age 93, of Menlo, GA, passed away Sunday May 26, 2013, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Miss. Jones was born April 13, 1920, in Cherokee County Alabama, the daughter of the late John Oliver and Alma Josephine Rhinehart Jones. She was a member of the Chelsea Baptist Church.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Peggy Ellenburg, Charlene Scoggins, Betty Howard, Rev. Ralph Sumner, and Bud Sumner.

Graveside service is 5:30 p.m.  Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from the AMI Cemetery with Rev. Mike Odom officiating with interment in the family plot at the AMI Cemetery.

Miss. Jones will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive Tuesday from

4:00 until 5:00 p. m.

Mrs. Lula Mae Martin Obit (M)

Mrs. Lula Mae Martin, age 91 of Summerville, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Martin was born in Chattooga County on June 4, 1921, daughter of the late Terry Morrison Mahaffey and Julie Davis Mahaffey. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Summerville and was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Wesley Martin, sister, Martha Galt; brothers, Sam Mahaffey, Clyde Mahaffey, Tom Mahaffey and Jim Mahaffey.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her son, John Wesley Martin, Sr.; daughter, Martha Ann McCollum; sister, Annie Lee Cook; two grandchildren, John Wesley Martin, Jr., and Everett Lee Martin.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Martin will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Bishop and Rev. Paul Mason officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.
