Mr. Robert Franklin “Bob” Wyatt, age 79, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday,
June 27, 2012 at Floyd Medical Center.
 
Mr. Wyatt was born September 27, 1932 in Lyerly, GA, the son of the late Webb
Hawkins Wyatt and Velma Bishop Wyatt.  He was a retired brick mason, having
worked for over 60 years.
 
Mr. Wyatt is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ledbetter Wyatt; sons and daughters-
in-law, Rick and Denise Wyatt, and Greg and Beth Wyatt; grandchild, Stacy Wyatt;
great-grandchild, Will Wyatt; sisters, Carolyn Johnston and Ann Jackson; brother,
Daniel Lee “Danny” Wyatt.
 
Graveside and interment services will be held at 5:00 p. m. Friday, June 29, 2012 in
Old Trion Cemetery with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. 
 
Mr. Wyatt will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive
friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p. m. on Friday.
 
The family request no flowers and no food, please. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the church of your choice..

Mrs. Sarah Ann Greene, age 71, Woodstock, GA (formerly of Summerville, GA) died Monday, June 25, 2012 at Well Star Kennestone in Marietta, GA.

Mrs. Greene was born, December 31, 1940 in Trion, GA, the daughter of Bertha Mae Wilson Jackson and the late Paul Edward Jackson. She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church. Other than her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Quinton Jackson.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Greene; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Andrew West and Angela and Todd Hughes; mother, Bertha Jackson; grandsons, Joshua Shadrick, and wife, Michele Shadrick, Justin Hughes, and Jonathon West; granddaughters, Whitney Hughes and Andrea West; great-granddaughter, Sydney Shadrick; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Robert Greene; sister-in-law, Molly Greene; brother-in-law and wife, Dan & Melissa Greene; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Sons-in-law, and Darrell Greene

Mrs. Greene will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Wednesday.

Mr. Larry Gwynne “Eddie Fuzz” Williams, age 58, of Lyerly, GA passed
Away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from injuries sustained in a tractor accident.
 
Mr. Williams was born January 23, 1954 in Trion, GA, son of the late
Joseph Ciesro “J.C.” and Doris Virginia Harrelson Williams.  He was
self-employed as a truck driver.  Other than his parents, he was preceded
in death by his wife, Hazel Sims Williams.
 
Survivors include, Evalene Trammell, his sons, Larry John Williams, Jason
Lee Williams, and Eddie Brian Williams; a daughter, Kelly Desiree Sims;
sisters, Linda Hunt and Becky Sims, nine grandchildren; a special aunt,
Syb Rickman; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 29, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. from the
Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Cox and Bro. James Bennett
officiating.  Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers will
be Sammy Trammell, William Ragland, Waymon Scoggins, Gene Scoggins,
Randy Hartline, and James Bennett.

Mrs. Nellie Louise McWhorter, age 90 of McWhorter Drive, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at her residence.  Mrs. McWhorter was born November 24, 1921 in Whitfield County, GA.  She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and was a member of the Berryton Church of God.

   Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jackson C. and Mary Browder Stinnett; brothers, Elmer Stinnett, James Stinnett, Eugene Stinnett, Buster (Buck) Stinnett, Leon Stinnett, and Harold Stinnett; sisters, Mary Sue Cook, Margie B. Knowles, and Christine Sneed.

   Mrs. McWhorter is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Paul Michael and Kathy McWhorter of Trion, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Sara Joe Eller and Paula and Houston Marks of Summerville, GA; sisters, Clara Mae Smith of  Cave Spring, GA and Beatrice R. Ward of Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Terry, Kimberley, and Brittney McWhorter, Michael Stallings, Mike Stallings, April McWhorter Thomas, and Tesa Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jordan Stallings, Shyanne Sky LaRose McWhorter, Jay Stallings, Hunter Goss Stallings, Shawna Sword, Hope Nettles, Dezja Cronier, and Destiney and Brooke Lowe.

   Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Cox officiating.  Interment will follow in the Subligna Cemetery. 

   Mrs. McWhorter will lie-in-state Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

   Pallbearers will be Ricky Ward, Anthony Dennis, Todd Browning, Scott Clements, Jamie McLain, and Josh Southern.

MISS MARGARET FRANCES OWENS, 92, of Allen Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday in a Rome nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on February 25, 1920 to the late Parks and Elsie Ward Owens. Miss Owens was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was retired knitting mill hand and school lunchroom service. She was preceded in death by sisters-Agnes Rosser and Myrtle Presley, niece-Virginia Johnston, nephews-Lamar Rosser & Vernon Rosser, and great nephew-Geoff Rosser.

 

Surviving are niece -Brenda (Windle) Bishop of Kingston; nephew-Winston (Sharon) Pressley of Albany; great niece-Jan (Mark) Sams of Lindale, Lauren Denning of Roswell, Patricia Pressley of Albany; great nephew-Alan (Candie) Rosser of Heflin, AL, Walter Pressley of Birmingham, AL; 1 great great niece; 3 great great nephews; 1 great great great niece; 3 great great great nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Summey and Dr. Paul Mason officiating, interment in Little Sand Mt. Cemetery. MRS. DOROTHY ANN “DOT” JOHNSON, age 73, of Dickeyville Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital. She was born in Trion, Georgia on August 28, 1938, a daughter of the late John Wesley Kitchens and Gladys Sitton Kitchens Martin. Mrs. Johnson was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church, a long established hair dresser, and had served on the Chattooga County School Board of Eduaction for 20 plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Tom Johnson and brother, the late Bill Kitchens. Surviving are daughters and spouse-Pamela Guthrie of Sarasota, FL. and Amy & Jonathan Parker of Calhoun; son and spouse-Jimmy & Jill Nicholson of Summerville; step children-Kati Peck of Knoxville, TN., Sandra Bockley and Randy Johnson of Atlanta; grandchildren-Sarah Nicholson, Michael Nicholson, Brandon Garner, Ashley Garner, Alechia Garner, Madison Bockley, Molly Bockley, Alex Johnson, Nicole’ Johnson, and Anna Caroline Parker; great granddaughter-Molly Nicholson; several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Gerald Davis Dempsey, age 73, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Dempsey was born in Trion, Georgia on December 18, 1938, son of the late G.D. “Datch” Dempsey and Annie Ruth Lawson Dempsey. He was a member of the Oakhill United Methodist Church in Lyerly, Georgia and prior to retirement, worked at Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill, as a Deputy with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a truck driver, and heavy equipment contractor.

Mr. Dempsey is survived by his wife, JoAnn Parker Dempsey; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Gary Hardeman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Lee Majors and O’Bera and Melvin Keen; grandchildren, Brooke and Chris Jarrett, Marc Hardeman; great grandson, Reed Jarrett; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Dempsey will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Gillespie, Rev. Doyle Waters, Dr. Kenneth Summey and Rev. Bill Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Doug Moseley, Ronnie Winters, Winston Chadwick, Gary McConnell, Jon Payne, Jack Ledford, Jason Winters, Johnny Bass and Joe Reed. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jackson Powell, the Congregation of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, and all personal friends.

Mr. Dewayne Bethune, age 76, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at his
residence.
 
Mr. Bethune was born January 11, 1936 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Clyde
Ray Bethune and Dice Lacey Bethune.  He was retired from the United States
Air Force, where he served in Vietnam.  He was a member of the Air Force
Sergeant’s Association, the VFW and the American Legion.  He also retired
from the United States Postal Service after 18 years of service.  Mr. Bethune
was an avid miniature car collector.  Other than his parents, he was preceded
in death by 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Orville Bethune and Herbert Bethune and wife, Lois Bethune.
 
Survivors include his wife, Betty “Katherine” Bethune; son, Mark Dewayne Bethune; daughters and husbands, Pamela Naughton, Cheri & John Jett, and
Michelle and Ray Bicknell; brothers and wives, David and Joyce Bethune,
Raymond and Dee Bethune, Doyle and Shirley Bethune, Vanlee and Mona
Bethune; sisters and husbands, Charlotte and Ron Huguley, Mary & Jerry Day,
Naomi and Todd Slate, Kathi & Clete Holtzer; sister-in-law, Jessie Bethune;

MRS. MARY DORIS HENDERSON, age 78, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at her residence. A native of Cobb County, Georgia She was born to the late Clayton and Villa Castile Brown on January 12, 1934. Mrs. Henderson was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church, retired from Bigelow-Sanford Mill, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Olin Curtis Henderson, Jr. and a son the late Wayne Henderson.

Mr. John William J.W. Greenwood Obit (M)

Mr. John William “J. W.” Greenwood, age 84, of Trion, GA passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at his residence.
 
Mr. Greenwood was born in Trion, Georgia on September 6, 1927, son of the late Robert Emmett Greenwood and Ella Cordelia Cannon Greenwood.  He was a 1945 Graduate of Trion High School, where he lettered in Football, Baseball and Basketball, and was a 1953 graduate of the University of Georgia.  Mr. Greenwood was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church, where he was deacon, and taught the Adult Men’s SS Class.  He was a member of the Trion Golf and Fishing Club.  Prior to his retirement, he was the athletic director at the Trion Community Center, a Physical Education teacher and coach in the Trion School System, where he coached High School Baseball, Tennis, Golf and Football, as well as the Trion Recreation department football teams.  Mr. Greenwood was the director of the Trion Recreation Department for 21 years, formed the Trion Alumni Association, helped form the Trion 50 Yard Club, and was the County Chairman and director for the American Red Cross.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth “Beta” Hayes Greenwood; and two sisters, Grace Love and Robbie Camp.
 
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robin and Donna Greenwood; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Stephen Lanier; grandchildren, Drew Lanier, Laci Lanier, and Grace Greenwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Woods and Dr. Floyd Roebuck  officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.
 
Pallbearers will be Raymond Tripp, Bill Kinzy, Albert Palmour, Lester Griffitt, Eddie Shireman and Whitey Tucker.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons and Men’s Sunday School Class, Trion Alumni, Alex Baker, Larry Tucker, Andy Bean, Tommy Bean, Dennis Durham, Dewight Hardin, Tate Giles, Jerry Archer and members of the 1983 State Champion Baseball Team.
 
Mr. Greenwood will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 8 P.M.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Trion Building Fund…
