Miss Ethel Bowman Obit (M)

Miss Ethel Bowman, age 94, of Menlo, GA died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at
her residence.
 
Miss Bowman was born March 15, 1918 in Centre, AL, the daughter of the late
John Bowman and Fannie Stansell Bowman.  She was retired from Mt. Vernon
Mills and she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was preceded in death by a son, Neil C. Bowman, JR, sisters, Effie Howard, Pauline Boyd, Audrey Bowman, brothers, Mack, Romie, Neil SR, Roy Harrison, David, and  Willard Bowman.
 
Miss Bowman is survived by a sister, Joyce Plunkett, 4 Grandchildren; and
6 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive Miss. Ethel Bowman.
 
Graveside and interment services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Friday, July 13, 2012
at Macedonia Cemetery with Bro. Larry Black officiating.  Active pallbearers
are Danny Jennings, James Arnold, Greg Plunkett, Lee Cavin, David Cavin,
and Nathan Hegwood.  Honorary pallbearers are employees of North Georgia
Home Health.
 
Miss Bowman will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive
friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Thursday, July 12, 2012.

Mr. James Lee “Jerry” Helton Obit (M)

Mr. James Lee “Jerry” Helton, age 69, of Lyerly, GA, died Monday, July 9, 2012
at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Helton was born June 22, 1943 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Thomas
Lee Helton and Nellie Jane Craig Helton.  He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills.
 
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lea Helton; son and daughter-in-law, James
Scott and Kim Helton; grandson, Stefan Tyler Helton; sister and brother-in-law,
Martha & Bill Rogers; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Louise Helton;
step-sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Hawkins and Lionel Harris, Betty and
Jim Mahiaffey, Charlotte and James Hawkins, Darlene and Frank Bearden,
Jimmie and Gordon Woodard; step-brother and sister-in-law, Henry and
Angela Henderson; step=grandchildren, Robert Daniel Motley and Thomas
James Motley; 8 Sisters-in-law; 5 Brothers-in-law; special friends,
Danny and Charlotte Mosley; and several Nieces and Nephews.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, July12, 2012 at Mason
Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Odum officiating.  Burial will follow in Lyerly
Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Steve Helton, Paul Jackson, Justin Ramey,
John Jackson, Dennis Lea, and Troy David Rutledge.  Honorary pallbearers will
be Nephews and Nieces.

Cindy Lou Harris 
(August 3, 1976 – July 6, 2012) 

 

Cindy Lou Harris, age 35 of 957 Welcome Hill Road, Trion, Ga. passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at her residence. She was born August 3, 1976 in Floyd County, Ga. daughter of Marie Watson. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmo & Sarah Smith. 

Survivors include her mother Marie Watson, Trion; sister & brother-in-law April & Roger Millican of Warner Robins, Ga.; niece, Sarah Millican, nephew, Robin Millican; great-nephew Caiven Millican. A number of Aunts, Uncles & Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday July 10,2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Dietz officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Harris will lie-in-state on Monday evening, July 9, 2012 where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Georgia Beatrice Brown Peace (EP)

Mrs. Georgia Beatrice Brown Peace passed away July 7, 2012 in Redmond Regional Medical Center. She was born November 1, 1917 to the late Thomas C. & Dovie Austin Brown. She was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John C. Peace, 3 sons, Mickey, Freddie & Stephen L. Peace.

Survivors include: 4 sons: John T. Peace, Alpine, Marvin E. Peace, Lafayette, David B. Peace & Randy E. Peace of Cloudland; 3 daughters: Martha Dean Brown, Trion, Patsy F. Parker, Trion & Mary Nell Chastain, Calhoun; # of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze & Rev. Jack Green officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Peace will lie-in-state at Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home on Sunday evening where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mr. William Allen “Lawrence” Bruce Obit (Wilson)

William Allen “Lawrence” Bruce, 85, of LaFayette, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012. He was born to the late Ross and Ruby Bruce in LaFayette on June 3, 1927.

 

He was a member and Deacon of Ridgeway Baptist Church, retired from Auto Custom Carpet and also worked for Barwick Mills for 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his Grandson, Justin Bruce.

 

Survivors include his loving Wife, Faye Bruce of LaFayette, two Daughters and Sons-in-law; Sheila and Fred Hamala of Liberty, SC, Pamela and Dr. Paul Ballinger of LaFayette, three Sons and Daughters-in-law; Jerry and Penny Bruce, David and Nancy Bruce, Brent and Robin Bruce, all of LaFayette, Sister and Brother-in-law; Imogene and Herbert Broyles of Trion, two Brothers and Sisters-in-law; Lewis and Brenda Bruce of Trion, Leo and Awanda Bruce of LaFayette, 11 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Ridgeway Baptist Church, LaFayette. Interment will follow in Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Homes – LaFayette Chapel.

Mrs. Frances Strange Cochran Obit (EP)

Frances Strange Cochran, lifelong resident of Summerville, Georgia, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at a Chattanooga hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Cochran; her parents, Allen E. and Mamie Worsham Strange; one sister, Mae Earle Strange; and one brother, Carlton W. Strange.

Mrs. Cochran is survived by her daughter, Martha Cochran Parker and husband Kenneth; grandson Jacob Charles Parker and wife Jessica; granddaughter Rebekah Frances Parker; great-grandson Kenneth Cadyn Parker and great-granddaughter Anna Grace Parker all of Chattanooga.  Mrs. Cochran is also survived by one nephew, Sam Strange and wife Bonnie of Fort Worth, Texas.

Mrs. Cochran was a lover of hospitality and was known for her talents in the kitchen.  She took pride in her role as Christian homemaker.  As a member of the South Commerce Street Church of Christ for 70 years, she served in all the works of which the ladies of the church were involved.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the South Commerce Street Church of Christ with Raymond Elliott and Jacob C. Parker officiating.  Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Erwin Petitt Funeral Home, and 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday at South Commerce Street Church of Christ.

Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

The family will accept flowers as Mrs. Cochran enjoyed the things of beauty, however, she was also interested in contributions to the Gospel Broadcasting Network, 3969 Cloud Springs Road, Ringgold, Georgia 30736, and the Boyd-Buchanan School Library Fund, 4650 Buccaneer Trail, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37411.

Mr. Marvin Earl Dover, age 62, of Summerville, GA died Monday, July 2, 2012
at his residence.
 
Mr. Dover was born April 28, 1950 in LaFayette, GA, the son of the late Albert
W. Dover and Vinnie Lucille Green Dover.  He was a retired farmer.
 
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Earl and Martha Dover and Tony Wayne and Mary Dover; brothers, Thomas R. Dover and Roy L. Dover; sisters, Peggy J. Boss and Brenda G. Wilson; and 10 Grandchildren.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Mason Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Johnson and Rev. Rickie Biddle officiating.  Burial
will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Gary McConnell,

Mr., Kenneth LeBron Bowman Obit (M)

Mr. Kenneth Lebron Bowman, age 75, Trion, GA, passed away June 29, 2012, at his home following a lengthy battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born September 27, 1936, in Trion, GA, son of the late Fred B. Bowman and Emma Lee Grogan Bowman. He was a graduate of the 1955 Trion High School and attended the University of Georgia. He served 2 years in the US Army in the continental United States and Soul, Korea. He graduated with a Business Accounting degree from Greenleaf Business College in 1961 in Atlanta, GA. He worked in the garment business for 22 years in management, setting up and running distribution centers, returning to Trion in 1993, working in sales of furniture and mobile homes until retirement age. He was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Trion Highway, Lafayette, GA. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Crow Lancaster, a brother, Joe (Betty) Bowman of Fort Payne, AL, step-son, Chris (Amy) Lancaster, McGregor, Texas and three step-granddaughters, Kaila, Klemson, and Haley, all of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday July 2, 2012, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tracy Bass and Rev. Jennifer Bates officiating. Interment in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Lafayette, GA. Active pallbearers, Frank Bomar, Frank Buchanan, Roy Huston, Troy Keith, Greg Harris, Sean Osowski. Mrs. Margie Dyer, age 69, of Trion, GA, passed away Friday June 29, 2012 in Sheperd Hill Nursing and Rehab. Mrs. Dyer was born Feb. 11, 1943, in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Charlie and Viola Smith. She was retired from Mt Vernon Mills having worked for over 30 years in the weave department. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Louise Stephens and Betty Butler, 6 brothers, James, Frank, Ray, Bill, Gene, and Wayne Smith.

Survivors include her sister, Joyce Ashworth, Calhoun, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday July 2, 2012 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Nellie Mae Lawson, age 88, of Summerville, GA, formerly of Atlanta, GA, passed away Friday June 29, 2012, in Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Lawson was born March 15, 1924, in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Charles and Nannie Leathers Young. She was a home maker and preceded in death by her husband, William Lawson. Survivors include her grandchildren, Monique Bush, Cindy Wilson, Corinne DeVita, Special care giver her nephew and his wife, Bobby and Ann Ergle, sister, Margie Ergle, Summerville, GA, brother, Jewell Young, Atlanta, GA, and several other nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Nellie Mae Lawson. Graveside and interment service will be held Monday July 2, 2012, 12:00 noon from the Hillcrest Cemetery in East Point, GA, with Rev. Greg King officiating.
