Mr. Gerald Eugene Hayes Obit (M)

Mr. Gerald Eugene Hayes, age 72, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness.
 
Mr. Hayes was born in Trion, Georgia on June 1, 1939, the youngest child of the late James Elbert Hayes and Lottie Christol Hayes.  He was a 1957 graduate of Trion High School, where he played football and basketball.  Following High School, Mr. Hayes enlisted in the United States Navy, where he specialized in electronics.  After his discharge in 1962, he went to work for Warner Robins Air Force Base in the civil service division.  Mr. Hayes was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by two brothers, James Alec Hayes and Daniel Lee Hayes.
 
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Loretta Worsham Hayes; daughters and son-in-law, Margaret Loard of Athens, GA and Kathryne and Geoff Rice of Birmingham; brother and sister-in-law, William B. “Billy” Hayes; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth “Beta” and J.W. Greenwood; the light of his life, granddaughter, Emily Kathryne Rice of Birmingham; and a number of nieces and nephews.
 
Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. Hayes will be held Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.
 
Pallbearers will be Robin Greenwood, Steve Lanier, Jimmy Hayes, David Hayes, Robert Hayes and Benny Hayes.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Boyce Dooley, Lester Griffith, Charles McCloud and Patrick Groover.
 
Mr. Hayes will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M.

Mrs. Thelma Lucindia Dover Obit (M)

Mrs. Thelma Lucindia Dover, age 83, of Trion, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Dover was born in Walker County, Georgia on March 11, 1929, daughter of the late Luther Albert Smith and Annie Mae Brown Smith. She was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church and prior to retirement, worked as an Inspector with Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Dover was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Dover; son, Jimmy Leon Dover; brothers, Albert Andrew Smith and John Franklin Smith; and a sister, Lena Lea.

Mrs. Dover is survived by a son, James Lamar Dover; daughters, Brenda Joyce Dover and Mary Ann Shuler; brother, Joe Smith; sisters, Tina Shaffer, Faye Smith, Mary Wright, Josie Nichols and Imogene Arnold; four grandchildren, James Lamar Dover, Jr., Kristina Elliott, Megan Hurt and Victoria Shuler; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Dover will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Studdard officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Josh Dover, Keith Smith, Ken Scott, Johnny Wright and Kevin Smith.

Mrs. Dover will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mr. James Emory Cha Cha Bug Cochran Obit (M)

Mr. James Emory “Cha Cha Bug” Cochran, age 54 of Conyers, GA, formerly of Trion, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Cochran was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 1, 1958, son of Grady E. Cochran and Sara Allene Millican Cochran. He was a member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church, and a 1977 Graduate of Trion High School, where he was a member of the 1974 State Champion Football Team. He was a past member of the Trion 50 Yard Club and prior to retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife, Debra Crosby Cochran; son and daughter-in-law, Taft and Carrie Cochran; daughters and son-in-law, Abby and Randy Parker and Donna Crosby; Parents, Grady and Sara Allene Cochran; two grandchildren, Austin Cochran and Justin Broyles; and two special friends, Robin Burkhalter and Betsy Perry.

Funeral Services for Mr. Cochran will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores and Mr. Roy Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Delbert Young and Rev. George Palmer officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bennett, Tommy Lawrence, Lynn Hall, Sam Hall, Lane Farmer and Leroy LuAllen. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Trion High School Class of 1977 and the 1974 Trion High School Champion Football Team.

Mr. Cochran will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. 

Mr. Jess Lee Davis, Jr. Obit (M)

Mr. Jess Lee Davis, Jr., age 83, of Trion, GA died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at LaFayette Health Care.

Mr. Davis was born March 25, 1929 in Stevenson, AL, the son of the late Jess Davis and Sarah Davis. He retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. He attended Mt. View Baptist Church and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Campbell Davis.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Larry Wesson, Shelia and Gary Weaver, and Susan and Dan Koch; 6 Grandchildren; and 10 Great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson and Rev. James Braddy officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Blackmon, Keith Gray, Barry Bourget, Dustin White, Kenneth Evans, and Johnny Ingle.

Mr. Davis will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Saturday.

Mr. Charles Burton Obit (M)

Mr. Charles Benjamin Burton, age 66, of Trion, GA died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Burton was born July 6, 1945 in Bronx, NY, the son of the late Charles Burton and Frances Grace O’Brien. He was a retired truck driver. Mr. Burton was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in Vietnam.

Survivors include his children, Charles Benjamin Burton, III and wife, Tori Burton, Matthew Schylar Burton, Lyzette Borrero and husband, Jose Borrero; former wife, Phyllis Jane Burton; brothers, William Burton and Robert Burton; grandchildren, Riley BenjaminBurton, Kayla Consuegra, Alexis Arroyo, Xavier Borrero, and Eric Borrero.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Sunday, Aril 22,2012 at Mason Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a. m. until the service hour on Sunday.

Ms. Mary Jane Haney Obit (EP)

Mary Jane Haney, age 77 of Summerville, GA passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Rome, GA.  Ms. Haney was born April 29, 1934 in Chattooga County, GA.

She was a Housewife.

Ms. Haney was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jess Lee and Bessie Hamby Haney.

 Ms. Haney is survived by sons, Winston Dupree and Johnny Dupree of Summerville, GA; brothers, Howard Haney of LaFayette, GA, Pitt Haney of Louisville, KY; and sister, Lois Hicks of Armuchee, GA.

 Visitation will be held Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be no service.

Mr. Rony Lee Rudy Anthony Obit (M)

Mr. Roney  Lee “Rudy” Anthony, retired U. S. Airforce, age 75, of Menlo, GA died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Shephard Hills Nursing Home.
 
Mr. Anthony was born July 29, 1936 in Trion, GA, the son of the late King and Elma Westmoreland Anthony.  He was a graduate of Trion High School and a
member of Trion First Baptist Church.  Mr. Anthony was retired from the
United States Air Force, having served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam.  He served
in the Pentagon and in Germany.  After retirement, Mr. Anthony worked in
the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.  In 1980 he returned to Trion, GA
where he continued to work in the Veterans Hospital in Atlanta, GA until he
retired in 1996.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister,
Mona Nell Anthony.  He loved softball and his animals.
 
Mr. Anthony is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debbee and Don
Carlson; grandchildren, Rebecca Copp, Danielle Hurd, and Rachel Kay Carlson;
great-grandchildren, Bryce Copp, Bree Copp, Jeannie Hurd and Ashton Hurd.
 
Memorial services, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating.
 
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the service hour on Saturday.

Mr. Charles Crawford, age 81 of Mahan Raod, Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Rome, GA.  Mr. Crawford was born June 21, 1930 in Chattooga County, GA.  Mr. Crawford was retired from the Catlett Water Company and was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church.

   Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his father and mother, Cecil and Leddie McCrickard Crawford; son, Ricky Crawford; and daughter, Kathy West.

   Mr. Crawford is survived by his wife, Emma Arnold Crawford of Summerville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Debbie McCrickard of Summerville, GA; granddaughters and husband, Kari Crawford of Chickamauga, GA and Brittney and Miles Bagley; grandsons and wife, Chad Crawford of Chickamauga, GA, Alan and Leann McCrickard of Trion, GA, Pete Parks of Los Angeles California; great-grandchildren, Kim Renfroe and Lisa Parks; and brother, Dean Crawford of South Carolina

   Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Helton officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

   Mr. Crawford will lie-in-state Friday, April 20, 2012 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Odell Smith Obit (M)

Mrs. Odell Smith, age 98 of Summerville, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at a Gordon County Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Ft. Payne, Alabama on December 13, 1913, daughter of the late John Marion Frazier and Liza Stephenson Frazier.  She was a member of the Mt. View Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies SS Class and the WMU.  Prior to retirement, Mrs. Smith was employed with Bigelow-Sanford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shelton Lavoid Smith.

 Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jimmy Colbert; brother, Rassie Frazier; sisters, Jeanette Hammonds and Marie Cofield; grandchildren, Derek and Jennifer Colbert; 4 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

 Pallbearers will be deacons and the men of Mt. View Baptist Church.
