Mr. Donnie Clyde Burrage obit (EP)

Mr. Donnie Clyde Burrage age 62 of Lafayette passed away Saturday. He was born August 8, 1949 to the late Thomas Lester & Fannie Lorine Greene Burrage. He was  an employee of the City of Lafayette and Church of God by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Burrage; son, Donnie Dewayne Burrage & a sister, Bobbie Goss.Survivors include 3 daughters: Tina JoAnn Burrage & Angela Star Burrage of Summerville, Lisa Elaine Hogue, Trion ; son, Jamey Paul Burrage, Trion; 3 brothers: Charles Reynolds, Hoyt Burrage & Billy Burrage all of Lafayette; sister, Faye Haney, Trion; step-daughter, Glenda Raines, Trenton & friend, Virginia Jo Raines, Trenton; several nieces & nephews, 18 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 19, 2012  at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev, Carl Jackson & Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the AMI Cemetery.

Pallbearers are requested to meet at the Funeral Home on Monday, March 19, 2012  at 1:30 p.m. and include the following gentlemen A.J. & Anthony Bentley, David Burrage, Michael Dalton, Roger Wade & Johnny Scott. Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Hughes, Marcus Goss, Tim  & Wayne Reynolds.Mr. Burrage will lie-in-state at Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday evening .

Mrs. Helen Parker Hammond obit (M)

Mrs. Helen Parker Hammond, age 83, of Cloudland, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Hammond was born in Trion, Georgia on April 27, 1928, daughter of the late Jesse Parker and Bessie Wilbanks Parker. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and prior to retirement, had worked with the Revco Corporation. Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Parker and John Parker and a sister, Frances Gray.

Mrs. Hammond is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Meagan Hammond and Marc and Teresa Hammond; Grandchildren and their spouses, Tiffany and Jud Westbrook, Jason and Katie Hammond, Heath and Brooke Hammond, Holly and Landon Bryant, and Amelia Lively; great grandchildren, Trey and Madelyn Westbrook, Lexi and Heather Hammond, Brody Bryant and Carol Ann Cash; Special Friends, Opal Sprayberry and JoAnn Clements; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Hammond will be held Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. Private interment services will be held at a later date in the Old Trion Cemetery.

Family and Friends will gather at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour.

Mr. William Rogers Darden Obit (Willis)

MR. WILLIAM ROGERS DARDEN – AGE 66, – Of Kensington Community, Chickamauga Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Erlanger Health System. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Marie Darden, father, Mr. Marshall Robert Johnson, sister, Ms. Dorris Darden, and one brother, Mr. Ellis Darden. Survivors are his family, mother of his four children, Ms. Lula L. Darden of Chickamauga; daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Larry) Marsh of Chickamauga, Mrs. Tara (Eric) Gordon of Harrison, Tenessee, and Ms. Hope Sams of Rome, Georgia; sons, Mr. Robert (Robbin) Darden of Ringgold, Georgia and Mr. Tony Burse of Summerville, Georgia; grandchildren, Casslin Darden, Brishna Darden, Raven Darden, Daiz Darden, Eric Gordon, Jr., Kalius Darden, Zackary Darden, Toni Burse, and Chanel Burse; great grandchildren, Markavian Darden, and Makaylee Darden; brother, Mr. Vandell Johnson; sisters, Ms. Wanda Boykins and Ms. Vickie Junell Darden; special cousin and caregiver, Rev. Mr. Jessie Lonn Carr Obit (M)

Mr. Jessie Lonn Carr, age 75, of Trion, GA died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Carr was born March 14, 1936 in Rome, GA, the son of the late Lonnie Carr and Henrietta Wilson Carr. He was retired from Chattooga County Public Works. Mr. Carr was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea. He was a wonderful Granddaddy and awesome Great Granddaddy.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Carr; sons, Steven Edward Carr and Jessie L. Carr, JR; daughters, Teresa Jackson and Sherry Thomason; sister, Betty Hoyle; 8 Grandchildren; and 5 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leroy McKissick, Rev. Ralph Sumner, and Rev. Don Knowles officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Shaklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion. Active pallbearers will be Kaleb Stoner, T. J. Thomason, Randy Hall, Kirk Peppers, Tommy Stoner, and Stacy Whited. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Watson, J. R. Mrs. Betty Jo Meek Obit (M)

Mrs. Betty Jo Meek, age 85, of Stable Gate DR, Blairsville formerly of Summerville, GA, passed away, Friday, March 9, 2012 at her home following a brief illness.

Mrs. Meek was born in Chattanooga, TN on June 29, 1926 to the late Walter Newton Farmer and the late Anna Orva Brown Farmer. She was a nurse for several years at Riegel Textile Mills and Chattooga County Hospital. Leaving Summerville in 2005 she lived with her son and daughter-in-law in Loudonville, OH and her daughter and son-in-law in Blairsville. Mrs. Meek was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Farmer, sisters, Vida Black and Barbara Sharp and her husband, James Edward Meek in 2001. She was a member of Pennville First Baptist Church in Summerville, GA.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Carol Meek of Loudonville, OH, daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rev. Jimmy Tanner of Blairsville, GA, brother and sister-in-law, John and Carolyn Farmer of Eustis, FL, grandchildren, Christy McDade, Casey Meek, Leslee Duncan and Micah Tanner, great grandchildren, Braden Tanner, Gracie McDade, Dally Meek and Laney Meek.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Pennville First Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Music will be by Joy Greer, Brandon Gurley and Robert Williams.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Interment will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens in Summerville. The family will receive friends in Summerville at Pennville First Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Herbert Kay ‘H.K.’ Tucker (EP)

After a short illness, Herbert Kay "H. K." Tucker age 87 went home to be with the Lord on the morning of March 5, 2012.
   H. K. was born to share croppers Herbert and Annie Tucker.  He was of youngest of 10 children.  When he was 12 years old the family moved to Georgia where he would meet and marry the love of his life, Anna Faye Thrasher.  They were married January 2, 1943, just before he went to serve his country through out Europe with the 124th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion during World War II.  When the war ended H. K. returned to Georgia where he and his wife settled and later raised two daughters, Juanita and Brenda.  H. K. was a deacon at Pennville First Baptist Church for over 50 years.  He and his wife of 61 years faithfully served their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and raised their daughters in a loving christian home.
   Through out the years H. K. worked in the insurance business, retail stores and he retired from Mount Vernon Textile Mill.
   H. K. is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, his parents, and 9 brothers and sisters.
   H. K. is survived by his daughter, Juanita Binowski and her children, Joshua, Jamison, and Cristal Binowski, and his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mark Binowski and their boys, Bo and Seth Binowski; and several nieces and nephews.
   H. K. lived a blessed life.  He accepted Jesus as his savior at age 11 and as an adult served his Lord daily in all he did.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
   Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Kenneth Thrasher officiating.   Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.
   H. K. will lie-in-state on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
   In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor H. K. by donating to Gideons International for Bible placement in hotels, jails, and etc. 

 

Mr. Don Hamilton Jennings (ER)

MR. DON HAMILTON JENNINGS, age 51, of Richmond Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Richmond. Mr. Jennings was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 2, 1960, a son of Hamilton Ralls and Billie Jean Burns Jennings of Trion, Georgia, who survive. Surviving are daughter-Holly Jennings of Mt. Vernon, KY; sons-Jesse Dylan Jennings and Matthew Ralls Jennings both of Summerville; Parents; sister-Luci Jennings of Trion; brother-Russ Jennings of Rome. Memorial service will be Saturday, March 10th, at 5:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Mr. Russ Jennings officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:30 P.M. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers the Family request contributions to any public library in Don’s memory. Mrs. Irene Hunter Bryant obit (R)

MRS. IRENE HUNTER BRYANT, age 77, of Marvin Avenue-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital.

Born in Copperhill, Tennessee, She was a daughter of the late Lester C. and Lena Hunter Ledford. Mrs. Bryant was Baptist by Faith, retired from Defenders Company, and was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Bryant, son, William Bryant, and daughter, Diane Bryant. Surviving are daughters-Brenda Johnson of Dalton, Linda Mauldin of Lawrenceville, Shirley Morgan of Center, AL, and Ann Corbett of Richmond, VA.; sons-Robert Bryant, Terry Bryant, Bobby Bryant, and Stoney Bryant all of Summerville; half sister-Ruth Hamby; brother-Kelley Edgeworth both of Summerville; special friend-Roy Durham; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 11th, at 3 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating, Interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Shelia Christine Taylor , age 56, of Trion, GA died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Shepherd Hills in LaFayette, GA.

Mrs. Taylor was born December 28, 1955 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Tommie Ruth Maddox Mullins and the late Doug Mullins. She was a homemaker. Other than her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Taylor.

Survivors include her children, Harold Taylor, James Allen Mullins, Tanya Chriswell, and Tessa O”Hara; mother, Johnnie Maddox; brother, Doug Mullins; sisters, Paula Lyle and Beverly Whitworth; and 5 Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 12:00 p. m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Taylor-Chriswell Cemetery with Rev. Tony Crowe officiating. Pallbearers will be Paul Maddox, Doug Mullins, Dave Lyle, David Chriswell, Harold Taylor, and David Whitworth.

Mr. Tommy Taylor Dye obit (m)

Mr. Tommy Taylor Dye, age 41, of Trion, GA died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Emory University Hospital.

Mr. Dye was born October 15, 1970 in Rome, GA, the son of Glenda Unassee Lea Eden and the late Donald Wayne Dye. He had worked at Roper Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Lanette Broyles Dye; son, Brody Dye; mother and step-father, Glenda and Steve Eden; sisters, Sarah Crabtree and Myra Eden; brothers, Matt Dye, James Eden, Jacob Eden, Josh Eden, Joe Eden, Daniel Eden, and Simon Eden.

Funeral services for Mr. Dye will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Micah Gillespie and Rev. Malcom Harris officiating.
