Clifford Melford Cox Obit

Mr. Clifford Melton Cox, age 72, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Wednesday August 17, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Cox was born June 30, 1939, in Risel, TX, the son of the late Robert Lee and Hattie Belle Duke Cox. He was a retired Brick & Block Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Cox, children, Michael Wallace Cox, Robert Chitwood, Jonathan Chitwood, Debbie Cox, Kimberly Chitwood, 6 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 20, 2011 from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating with interment in the West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Marshall Price, Don Lively, Jonathan Chitwood, Robert Chitwood, Anthony Eskew, Tony Bray.

Mr. Cox will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday August 19, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dr. Jack R. Meacham obit

DR. JACK REEVES MEACHAM, age 78, prominent Summerville, Georgia physician passed away Wednesday (August 17, 2011) in a Rome hospital. Born in Roanoke, Alabama on March 29, 1933, He was a son of the late William Curtis and Mattie Lou Reeves Meacham. A long-standing member of Summerville First Baptist Church, He served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. Dr. Meacham enjoyed music, singing, reading, teaching, Bible study, sang in quartet, and in Acapella Choir in college. He graduated from Summerville High School in 1950, earning his BS degree in Biology from Carson-Newman College and taught at Trion High School in 1956., then entered the Medical College of Georgia in 1958 and earned his M.D. in 1962, interning at Floyd County Hospital. From 1963 til 1968 was in General Practice in Chatsworth, Georgia, and 1968 until 2001 Family Practice in Summerville. Dr. Meacham was PFC in the U.S. Army during Korea serving as medical corpsman and x-ray technician. In 1954 married Lillie Jane Stephenson who preceded Him in death in 2000. The Family publicly thanks North Georgia Home Health, Arbutus Personal Care Home, ICU & CCU nurses in Redmond M.C., Specialty Hospital Personnel, and all the wonderful physicians and medical staff at Redmond Regional Medical Center, Floyd Medical Center, and the Specialty Hospital.

Surviving are daughters and spouses-Jenny (Eddie) Weaver of Chatsworth, Beth (Phil) Cavin and Stephanie (Vic) Norton all of Summerville; grandchildren-Paul Cavin, Rachel Cavin Witt, Savannah Weaver Thompson, Mikaela Norton, Joscelyn Norton; great grandchildren-Branden Maddux, Dexter Witt, Cole Cavin, Will Witt, Beth Witt; sister-Betty Eason of Odenville, AL.; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20th, at 4:00 P.M. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Summey officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. MR. LARRY DONNELL LONDON – AGE 52, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charles Penn and Mrs. Pearl Moore London, three brothers, Misters Gregory Lamar London, Joe London, and Dwight London.

Survivors are his loving family, one son, Mr. Orlando P. London; three grandsons, Tyler, Taran, Melik; four sisters, Ms. Melika Abdullah, Mrs. Pearl Baker, Mrs. Linda Faye Perry, all of Patterson, New Jersey, Mrs. Edna L. McCleod of Ozark, Alabama; two brothers, Mr. Arthur Charles London, Mr. Mark Anthony London of Summerville, Georgia; one uncle, Mr. George (Buddy) McCutchins of Trion, Georgia; a dear friend, Mrs. Bessie S. Mr. Gregory Allen Hall Obit

Mr. Gregory Allen Hall, age 55, of Trion, GA, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hall was born May 19, 1956, the son of the late Ray and Lois Hall. He was employed with the City of Summerville. Mr Hall was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He loved to fish, golf, play horseshoes, and cook.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Hall; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Angie Williamson, LaFayette, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Keisha and Brian Cassese, New York, and Tammy and Frankie Rigdon, Elijay, GA; brothers and sister-in-law, Randy and Debbie Hall, and Mike Hall, Trion, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Jane and Mike Short, and Lisa Hall; 9 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Delbert Young and Mr. Jarod Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Howell Cemetery. Mrs. Billie Diane Dorsey

Mrs. Billie Dianne Dorsey, age 59, of Acworth, GA passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Kennestone Hospital.
Mrs. Dorsey was born in Canton, Georgia on February 3, 1952, daughter of the late Henry Leonard Dorsey and Ruby Lee Peardon Dorsey. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Dorsey is survived by her children, Donavin Donaldson and Shane Donaldson of Tampa Florida and Brigette (Ricky) Vanpelt of Summerville; brothers, Larry Cline, Richard Dorsey, David Dorsey and Billy Dorsey; sister, Patricia Dorsey; six grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorsey will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Oakdale Baptist Church in Canton, GA with Rev. Huey Holloway and Rev. Mike Ware officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakdale Church Cemetery.

Mr. Herbert Gordon Head Obit

 

Mr. Herbert Gordon Head, age 81, of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his son and daughter by his side.
Mr. Head was born in Henagar, Alabama on July 17, 1930, son of the late Gardy G. Head and Lucy Rucks Head. He attended the Church of God Seventh Day in Hammondville, AL and prior to his retirement, he was employed as a supervisor with Mt. Vernon Mills and the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant. Mr. Head was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army and was a member of the Chattooga Lodge # 704 F&AM, the Chattooga Shrine Club, the Order of the Eastern Star #404, and the Reigel Quarter Century Club. In addition to his parents, Mr. Head was preceded in death by his wife, Olene Gillespie Head.
Mr. Head is survived a son, Herbert Michael Head (Laura Stephenson); a daughter, Susan Head Evans (John Evans); Sister, Shirley Collette; and three grandchildren, Joseph Evans, Noah Evans, and Gracie Evans; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Head will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores and Rev. Terry Hurley officiating, and Chattooga Lodge #704 administering Masonic Rites. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of Military Graveside Honors.

Mrs. Clara Jo Spears, age 67, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Spears was born October 4, 1943 in Centre, AL, the daughter of the late James and Hazel
Smith Nixon. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs.
Spears was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Lee Spears; daughter, Stephanie Hegwood;
son, Scotty Ray Spears; sisters, Dorothy Baugh and Betty Beckner; brother, Jimmy Nixon; 
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Susan Spears; grandchildren, Scott

Mr. George Bowman, age 69, of Summerville, GA, passsed away Tuesday August 9, 2011,
at the residence of a special friends, Pam & Marty Middleton of Summerville, GA.
Mr. Bowman was born June 15, 1942, in Rockmart, GA, the son of the late William Mitchell
and Daisy Mae Eskew Bowman. He was a retired farmer and a member of the United by
Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include a step-daughter & husband, Lucy & Stephen Broyles, 2 granddaughters,
Lenea Broyles and Akayia Younce, a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Younce, brothers, Jimmy
Bowman, Arthur Bowman, special friends, Pam & Marty Middleton, Evelyn Willingham,

Graveside service will be held Wednesday August 10, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. at the Silver Hill
Cemetery with Rev. Barry Brown & Rev. John McGraw officiating with interment in the Silver Hill

Annie Ruth Hester Thomas, age 91, of Jamestown Road passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011.

Mrs. Thomas was born April 16, 1920 in Cherokee County, AL. She was Methodist by faith, baptized and joined the church at an early age. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Thomas; and a son, Joseph Fay Thomas.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, John William and Maggie Thomas; two granddaughters, Angie Pritchett and Tracey Younce; one step-grandson, Donnie Hudson; 6 Great-grandchildren; and 6 Great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Annie Mae Cochran Adams, age 61, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Adams was born November 26, 1949 in Lyerly, GA, the daughter of the late James Richardson and Anna Abernathy Cochran. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Quinn.

Survivors include her sons, John Thomas Adams and Richard Joseph Adams; brothers, James Cochran and William Cochran; sisters, Maxine Fowler and Faye Fowler.
